New Zealand: Tornado rips through central New Plymouth

Yahoo Xtra News, says:
A tornado ripped through New Plymouth early this afternoon lifting roofs, smashing windows and throwing debris around the city centre. There were no initial reports of anyone having been injured. Senior Sergeant Robbie O'Keefe said the tornado came in from the sea before blasting through the city centre."It has come in from the sea, taken a roof off a large warehouse and then travelled up Gover Street and into the racecourse area. It's left a path of destruction." Mr O'Keefe said the tornado had been traced for about 800m but emergency services were still trying to establish where it went beyond the city area.

Perhaps Im not being paranoid after all watching out of the 'storms'. We've had heavy rain for the past week; not every day ... but intermittently ... dark storm clouds hang over us. There is no significant areas of flooding yet ... but we received something in the mailbox today --- a check list of essential items 'for when disaster strikes'; ominous or what?
