Emerging from the Grey

Daily Om: We are born equipped to experience a complex array of diverse emotions. Many of us, however, are uncomfortable confronting our most powerful emotions. We may shy away from delight and despair and deny life’s colors by retreating into a world of monotone grey. We may numb ourselves to what we are truly feeling. It’s easier to suppress our emotions than to deal with them, so we may momentarily turn to pleasures such as alcohol, food, sugar, shopping and too much television. We may even numb our hearts. While it’s normal to temporarily seek distractions as a means of coping with intense emotions, numbing yourself prevents you from confronting your issues and keeps you from ever finding resolution or peace. When you are numb, there is no pain or powerlessness, but there can also be no joy or healing. The activities that numb you may seem harmless or pleasurable, but using them to numb yourself diminishes the quality of your life. Numbing yourself so that you don’t have to feel intense emotions can often satisfy a surface need while blocking your awareness of a deeper need. You may find solace in food or shopping when what you really need is spiritual nourishment. The less you feel, the less alive you feel. Your feelings add vividness to your experiences and serve to connect you to the world around you. It is possible to disavow yourself of numbing behaviors a little at a time and once again taste life’s rich flavors. When you sense that you are engaging in a particular behavior simply to deaden your emotions, stop and ask yourself why. Examining the feelings that drive you to numb yourself can help you understand what is triggering your desire to emotionally fade out...read more>>>...

Quote For The Day

"The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof." -- Barbara Kingsolver

Cholesterol levels: Are they really that important?

Is cholesterol the villain it is made out to be by the medical authorities? Does too much cholesterol cause heart disease? Will it shorten your life? Should you avoid saturated fats to stay free from heart disease? The answers to these questions are not the ones most people would anticipate. The video below provides a different perspective. It may be the first time a major television network devoted a serious show to debunking the lipid hypothesis. As readers of the blog are all too aware, most take the opposite approach. Let's hope this one starts a trend. It would be nice to have an investigative reporter go after a lot of these mainstream lipid guys. As you will see, they look pretty uncomfortable under intensive questioning. Unlike those of us on this side of the debate, they're not used to being questioned as to the validity of their views. (S.O.T.T)

I was healed by a ghost...and there's a photo to prove it

S.O.T.T: Diane Berthelot had been unwell for months after having her gall bladder removed and was taking antibiotics for an infection when she went into Worstead village church in Norfolk to rest and escape the heat. While she sat on a pew close to the font and prayed for a full recovery, her husband Peter and son David wandered around the empty church taking photographs. Mrs Berthelot remembers vividly tingling all over and feeling "warm and comfortable" while sitting on the wooden bench with her eyes closed and head bowed. When she felt better the family left the church and did not think about the incident until six months later when the camera film was developed and they held a slide show of their holiday snaps for their lodger at their home in Chelmsford, Essex. One photo clearly showed a woman wearing a bonnet and dressed in light-coloured, old-fashioned clothes, sitting facing Mrs Berthelot on a bench directly behind her. She said: "When we saw the white figure sitting behind me on the projector screen, we just stood there with our mouths open."...read more>>>...

Signs of change in October 2013

Dozens of typhoons and cyclones slamming into Southeast Asia, Japan and India, record heat and hundreds of wildfires in Australia, record snow and rainfall in the Northern and Midwestern US states, mile-wide tornadoes in Nebraska, hundreds of dead dolphins washing up all along the U.S. Atlantic coast, a powerful earthquake in the Philippines... these are just some of the extreme weather and geological events that took place around the world in October 2013.

"The Journeys Of The Ego"

Have you ever contemplated or meditated on the ego? What the energy of the ego feels like? What it really is? Learning to control and express that instinctive side of ourselves begins with contemplating the ego. It appears not to be part of our true consciousness. Instead it is an additional component added to our awareness as a side effect of having to survive here on this physical plane as a mortal human being. It craves identity and conformity. It wishes acceptance and craves adoration. It is selfish at its core and drives the hypercritical inner critic. Our spiritual human self does not need an ego. Our spiritual self is contented with being part of the collective consciousness. Yet the ego demands competition and recognition.

What are your personal thoughts on the ego?

I will be writing a series of articles on A Light In The Darkness exploring the deeper realms of the ego and the human characteristics of the ego. 2013 was the year of the awakened ego and its opposition to the true self. 2014 onwards is where the spiritual work to dampen the ego begins - MATTHEW JAMES

On The Road Again

Its been a quiet month here on A Light In The Darkness. I need to be cloned in order to keep up with all the current commitments. Therefore I've been unable to sustain the usual post volume this month. It has been quality rather than quantity. I write this as a passenger during our latest travel across to Sydney from Canberra. I have another hectic few weeks ahead. So it will be quiet here for the remainder of the month. Watch out for more radio shows however with well known guests.

There is so much in the pipeline, I will say that. I have learnt to keep the BIG things close to my chest. What with copy cats and five minute wonders spying etc, it pays to be quiet about the significant things. 2014 will be significant.

People forget or don't realise I have been in this industry since 1986. I have seen a lot and know all the signs. So little gets past me. Ego self centering follows the same patterns. Enough said. 2013 has been the year of the selfish separate ego demanding it gets noticed. 2014 is the year that the true self starts to take control. I cant wait for 2014. More on this vibrational cleansing that is taking place, in a later article here on A light In The Darknexs

Image #3 - derived from Google Mars - a great shot of interesting artifacts here in a region of Mars which Google Mars has now currently 'blurred' so nobody can gaze at it. So this image is exceptionally priceless and rare ... what are the shiny object I wonder?
Image #4 - derived from Google Mars - this is the bottom point of one of the numerous 'gaseous' plumes I was observing in image of Mars. Again, this image is now priceless as this area of Mars has now been blurred on Google Mars. I wonder why?

Staying on Track

Daily OM: In a world where we have routines for nearly everything—our route to work, our physical fitness regimen, and our weekday schedule—it’s amazing how many people forget to create a routine for meeting their spiritual needs. We run around in an attempt to be at our many appointments on time and meet our many obligations. In our efforts to be as productive as possible, however, our spiritual needs tend to take a backseat. After all, taking care of our spiritual needs doesn’t directly pay the bills or tone our abdominal muscles. We may even wonder who has time to meditate or write in their journal when there are more pressing matters to see to. The truth is that nurturing ourselves spiritually is what gives us the energy and grounding that we need to make sure that our lives stay on track. How you choose to nurture yourself spiritually is a personal choice. For some people, meditating once a day may be what they need to stay centered. While spending 10-20 minutes with your eyes closed and your brain devoid of thought may seem like a lot of time doing nothing, this state of nothingness actually allows you to stay calm and focused so you can be as productive as possible. Writing in your journal everyday lets you stay in touch with yourself so that you are always tuned in to your feelings. Repeating affirmations for success, happiness, and well-being on a regular basis can help you live with optimism and enthusiasm and create what you want in life...read more>>>...

The key to consciousness: Efficient information flow?

S.O.T.T: The moment a person slips from conscious thought into unconsciousness has long been a mystery.  Now researchers have pinpointed exactly what goes on in the brain as people become unconscious after taking anesthesia. It turns out that there probably aren't individual neurons, or brain cells, responsible for consciousness.  "This data shows that consciousness might not be the result of a special group of neurons, but rather might be the result of how neurons communicate with one another," study co-author Martin Monti, a psychology professor at the University of California at Los Angeles, wrote in an email.  When people are conscious, information zips from one place to another along a direct route, much like an express bus, whereas the way information travels in the unconscious brain is more like taking several buses and stopping in North Dakota and Tennessee to get from New York to Los Angeles, Monti said...read more>>>...

McDonald’s sues Australian town for rejecting its fast food garbage

Natural News: Plans by fast food giant McDonald's to build its first restaurant in the Australian town of Tecoma, located in the state of Victoria, are being challenged by nearly 100,000 individuals who recently signed a petition demanding that McDonald's stay out of the area. According to Yahoo! TV in Australia, representatives from an activist group known as BurgerOff recently flew 10,000 miles to the McDonald's global headquarters near Chicago to deliver the petition and signatures, which company officials reportedly refused to touch. For over two years, BurgerOff and the people of Tecoma have been fighting to keep McDonald's out of their town, pointing out that the company's intent to build a large, 24-hour drive-thru location near an elementary school would be "a giant advertisement for junk food" for young children who would walk by it daily. But according to the International Business Times, this massive grassroots effort that has included public demonstrations, flash mobs, social media and other forms of community outreach has thus far been unsuccessful at thwarting McDonald's plans...read more>>>...

Mozilla’s Lightbeam tool will expose who is looking over your shoulder on the web

Independent: Just who is looking over your shoulder when you browse the Internet? Tomorrow, web users will be given a new tool to shine a light on the commercial organisations which track your every movement online. Lightbeam, a download produced by Mozilla, the US free software community behind the popular Firefox browser, claims to be a “watershed” moment in the battle for web transparency. Everyone who browses the Internet leaves a digital trail used by advertisers to discover what your interests are. Users who activate Lightbeam will be able to see a real-time visualisation of every site they visit and every third-party that is active on those sites, including commercial organisations which might potentially be sharing your data. Mozilla wants users who install the Lightbeam add-on to Firefox, to crowd-source their data, to produce the first “big picture” view of web tracking, revealing which third-parties are most active. Lightbeam promises a “Wizard of Oz” moment for the web, “where users collectively provide a way to pull back the curtains to see its inner workings,” Mozilla claimed...read more>>>...

Genetically Modifying Humans Via Antibiotics? Something You Need To Know

Activist Post: A new kind of antibiotic has been developed by researchers at Oregon State University. The new antibiotics are called PPMOs, which stand for peptide-conjugated phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligomers. They are “a synthetic analog of DNA or RNA that has the ability to silence the expression of specific genes.” The way that PPMO antibiotics will work is to, “specifically target the underlying genes of a bacterium.” In plain English, PPMOs will genetically modify bacteria. This may not sound like a horrible thing on initial glance. Bacteria are generally thought of as evil (soap commercials have conditioned us all), something to fight because some bacteria can make people sick and even kill them if their body is overwhelmed by “bad” bacteria. However, bacteria and the other single-celled organisms that make up the human microbiome are intimate parts of each human being.

Per the Human Microbiome Project:

The healthy adult body hosts ten times as many microbial cells as human cells, including bacteria, archaea, viruses, and eukaryotic microbes resident on nearly every body surface. The metagenome carried collectively by these microbial communities dwarfs the human genome in size, and their influences on normal development, diet and obesity, immunity, and disease are under active research. ...READ MORE>>>...

Wisdom for the Day

A young earth sparrow sits in the lowest branches of a tree
Looks up to the mighty spirit eagle high above, and says ‘I wish that was me
The mighty spirit eagle fixes the sparrow with its beady eyes
‘Hey little sparrow know I can hear your cries’
‘For you to be like me, you must lose all traces of your humanity’
‘I was once as you, and after many lifetimes I finally flew’
‘I reached these highest branches eventually … and realised I am you and you are me’

Schizophrenia tied to abnormal memory network in brain

S.O.T.T: Individuals suffering with schizophrenia are subject to a whole host of disturbing, life-changing symptoms. They can range from disorganized thinking and an inability to plan for the future to full-on hallucinations and paranoid delusions. Through treatment with psychiatric therapy and medication can be effective for some, the psychiatric disease has largely remained a medical mystery. However, researchers at the RIKEN-MIT Center for Neural Circuit Genetics at the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at MIT have uncovered what they term "a faulty brain mechanism" they believe is crucial in the eventual development of schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders in humans...read more>>>...

Dogon Cosmology & Egyptian Hieroglyphic Writing

Along the cliffs of the Bandiagara escarpment in Mali – south of the Niger river and north of Upper Volta – live the modern-day Dogon tribe, a reclusive society consisting of approximately 300,000 individuals. To all outward appearances, they are a primitive tribe, who manage a near-subsistence living as onion farmers, metal-workers, weavers, and artisans under the often difficult conditions of a Sahelian climate, one that typically provides four months of rain followed by an extended dry season. The current locale of the Dogon, which is far from any of the well-travelled routes of modern society, may have been a deliberate choice based on its ability to shelter a valued traditional way of life from unwelcome outside influences – the Dogon are thought to have migrated to this region from the Niger River in the 1500’s as a way of avoiding forced conversion to Islam...read more>>>...

Satsang: The Power of Spiritual Presence

New Dawn Magazine: Enlightened people are like spiritual dynamos: they have a very strong presence which touches the people they come into contact with, transmitting something of their enlightenment to them. Even people who aren’t at all “spiritual” usually feel a sense of well-being in their presence, and so feel attracted to them without knowing why. And for people who have made some spiritual progress already, the effect can be extremely powerful. Contact with an enlightened person may enable them to make the final “jump” to permanent enlightenment themselves. This is one of the reasons why many spiritual traditions place so much emphasis on the role of a guru. The guru is so important not just because of the advice and guidance he can give you, but because he can transmit his spiritual power to you, giving you a taste of enlightenment and speeding up your spiritual development. (In Sanskrit, this is called satsang, literally “good company.”)

The big question is: why do enlightened people have this strange ability to generate spiritual experiences in others, this power to “transmit” their enlightenment to the people around them?

Spiritual experiences induced by satsang strongly suggest that the esoteric concept of an “aura” has a basis in fact. They suggest that our being or life-energy isn’t just confined to our own mind or body – it radiates out from us, creating an atmosphere (or aura) which can affect the people we come into contact with. The auras of most people don’t appear to be particularly strong, or at least don’t have particularly strong negative or positive qualities, so that we don’t usually feel anything palpable from them. But we’ve all met certain people who we instinctively recoil from. We might not even exchange any words with them but they still fill us with a sense of unease or even fear or dread. These are people who have a strong “bad aura” around them, perhaps because their life-energy is heavily poisoned with negative emotions and egotism. But with enlightened people, of course, the exact opposite happens. Their life-energy is so intensified and stilled, and has such powerful positive qualities, that they “transmit” waves of calm and bliss to everyone around them.

But spiritual experiences are more than just feelings – they are also experiences of vision, insight and revelation. And one of the most important aspects of satsang experiences, I believe, is that they show that spiritual illumination is also communicable. Feelings of bliss can certainly spread from person to person – and so can the vision of the oneness of the universe, the awareness that the essential reality of the universe is a limitless ocean of Spirit, and the experience of transcending the ego and being reborn as a deeper and higher Self. These experiences are completely transferable – under the right circumstances, they can be passed from an enlightened person to others without any loss of intensity....read more>>>...

Crocodile Totem Animal

What's Your Sign: These reptiles have highly acute senses. Crocodiles have amazing hearing and mothers can hear their babies while still inside their shells. As an animal totem, these animals represent fierce protection. Mothers will transport their young to water in pouches in her mouth and she will guard them ferociously. Alligator meaning and crocodile meaning talk to us about keen vision too. Their pupils widen at night, allowing them better vision and they can see very well underwater. That they can see underwater is a big totemic lesson. It tells us that we too can see clearly through our most ambiguous dreams, and perplexing emotions. The pronounced eyelids have the perfect camouflage, their scaly skin. The alligator encourages us to look but not be seen. Because alligators, crocodiles and caiman's are associated with water, we're also talking about seeing clearly into emotional worlds. These creatures ask us to dive into our emotions and seek fluidity, healing and cleansing in these realms. Gators and crocs also ask us to utilize our dreams for emotional understanding. Call upon these creatures when you're in a crunch emotionally, or are unclear about how to heal yourself, or if you're having disturbing dreams. These creatures are fearless, and their energy is extremely forthright. They strike clarity into our lives when we call on them. Moreover, these creatures represent an equal balance between earth and water. With their help, we too can become grounded, and settled in our emotions...read more>>>...

Sustenance for the Soul

Daily Om: Modern life compels us to rush. Because we feel pressured to make the most of our time each day, the activities that sustain us, rejuvenate us, and help us evolve are often the first to be sacrificed when we are in a hurry or faced with a new obligation. It is important we remember that there is more to life than achieving success, making money, and even caring for others. Your spiritual needs should occupy an important spot on your list of priorities. Each task you undertake and each relationship you nurture draws from the wellspring of your spiritual vitality. Taking the time to engage in spiritually fulfilling activities replenishes that well and readies you to face another day. Making time for the activities that contribute to your spiritual growth has little to do with being selfish and everything to do with your well-being. Regularly taking the time to focus on your soul’s needs ensures that you are able to nurture yourself, spend time with your thoughts, experience tranquility, and expand your spiritual boundaries. It is easy to avoid using our free moments for spiritual enrichment. There is always something seemingly more pressing that needs to be done. Many people feel guilty when they use their free time to engage in pursuits where they are focusing on themselves because they feel as if they are neglecting their family or their work. To make time for yourself, it may be necessary to say no to people’s requests or refuse to take on extra responsibilities. Scheduling fifteen or thirty minutes of time each day for your spiritual needs can make you feel tranquil, give you more energy and allows you to feel more in touch with the universe. Writing in a journal, meditating, studying the words of wise women and men, and engaging in other spiritual practices can help you make the most of this time...read more>>>...

Health dangers of eating wheat

S.O.T.T: Many experts are saying we are faced with an epidemic of gluten intolerance. There is a whole industry of gluten free products springing up. Many people are reading about gluten free lifestyles. Even if they aren't having the classic symptoms of gluten intolerance they are opting for this change in their lifestyle.
Other experts are saying that it isn't just the gluten we need to be aware of. One of the main health-harming culprits is found with wheat germ agglutinin (WGA), a category of lectins. Regardless if the wheat is soaked, sprouted or cooked, these compounds remain intact. Tiny and hard to digest, lectins can accumulate within the body and wreak havoc on physical and mental well-being. WGA is neurotoxic, crossing the blood brain barrier and attaching to the myelin sheath, consequentially inhibiting nerve growth - a serious consideration for those suffering from degenerative neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's. These and other aspects of wheat have also been linked to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder...read more>>>...

The Awakening Soul – Floodgate of the Apocalypse

Zen Gardner: More and more terrific folks are stepping out and making serious conscious-driven life changes and it’s absolutely thrilling. When we’re led by our hearts it can’t go wrong. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be trials, tests and obstacles. We all have them. But acting in response to the awakening is a different batch of challenges compared to the trials of those attempting to just exist or get ahead in our matricized world. Any conscious and aware lifestyle change to whatever degree is upstream in relation to the predominant down river current carrying those embroiled in the system. As a result we meet with criticism, cynicism, anger, a sense of betrayal from friends and loved ones, ridicule, financial challenges and other complications stirred up by those resentful of our freedom. It’s not an easy road. Most of us have experienced those challenges and setbacks to varying degrees our whole lives. I’ve had several major paradigm shifts and complete turnabouts in my life leading up to where I am now, as have so many. There were always wild, unexpected and difficult to deal with elements that were often either extremely traumatic, or just plain took me by surprise, several appearing as if I was hitting a wall…when I wasn’t...read more>>>....

Quote for the Day

The only time you ever have in which to learn anything or see anything or feel anything, or express any feeling or emotion, or respond to an event, or grow, or heal, is this moment, because this is the only moment any of us ever gets. Personal Power

Daily Om: Many of us have do not understand what personal power means. We have been given the false notion that power is bad—that it is something we use to exert our will upon others. In fact, when our personal power is intact, we are neither overbearing nor meek. We have a clear sense of our strength and the impact we can have on others. This actually enables us to be more sensitive. Personal power is what permits us to work on behalf of our dreams and desires. It allows us to realize that we are worthy and deserve to be heard. In addition, our personal power lets us extend the respect we know that we deserve to the people around us. There is no reason to be afraid or ashamed of fully owning your power. In the chakra system, the solar plexus is the seat of personal power. One way to evaluate your sense of power is to breathe into this part of the body. If it feels tight or nervous, it is an indication that you may not be fully expressing your power. You can heal this imbalance by expanding the area of the solar plexus with your breath. You can also visualize a bright yellow sun in this part of your body. Allow its heat to melt any tension, and let its light dissolve any darkness or heaviness. Repeating this exercise on a regular basis can restore and rejuvenate your sense of power...read more>>>...

Hemp Seed: Nutritional Value and Thoughts

Hemp contains:
* All 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential amino acids (EAAs) our bodies cannot produce.
* A high protein percentage of the simple proteins that strengthen immunity and fend off toxins.
* Eating hemp seeds in any form could aid, if not heal, people suffering from immune deficiency diseases. This conclusion is supported by the fact that hemp seed has been used to treat nutritional deficiencies brought on by tuberculosis, a severe nutrition blocking disease that causes the body to waste away.
* Nature’s highest botanical source of essential fatty acid, with more essential fatty acid than flax or any other nut or seed oil.
* A perfect 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 Linoleic Acid and Omega-3 Linolenic Acid – for cardiovascular health and general strengthening of the immune system.
* A superior vegetarian source of protein considered easily digestible.
* A rich source of phytonutrients, the disease-protective element of plants with benefits protecting your immunity, bloodstream, tissues, cells, skin, organs and mitochondria.

Why isn't my brain working

S.O.T.T: The health of the gut profoundly influences the health of the brain.Studies link gut problems with depression, mood disorders, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, memory loss, and brain lesions. This may come as no surprise if you have found certain foods alter your mood, personality, focus, or concentration. Gut flora, the several pounds of bacterial organisms we carry in our intestines, affect brain chemistry and imbalances can cause depression and psychiatric disorders. Poor diets, stress, excess sugars and carbs, repeated antibiotic use, and other factors tip the balance of gut flora so that harmful bacteria outweigh the beneficial. Intestinal permeability, or leaky gut, is a condition in which the walls of the intestine become inflamed and porous, allowing undigested food, bacteria, toxins, and other antigens into the bloodstream. This provokes the immune system and causes inflammation throughout the body. Leaky gut can also cause brain inflammation and has been linked with depression and autoimmunity..read more>>>...

New book says government, not aliens, were behind Dulce cattle mutilations, UFO sightings

S.O.T.T: For decades, strange lights in the night sky and mysterious cattle mutilations have sparked rumors of a secret underground alien base near the small northern New Mexico town of Dulce, which is tribal headquarters of the Jicarilla Apache Nation.  A new book, Dulce Base: the Truth and Evidence from the Case Files of Gabe Valdez, purports to solve the mystery. It claims that humans, not aliens, are behind the strange happenings. The book's author is Greg Valdez, son of former New Mexico State Police Officer Gabe Valdez. In 1976, ranchers found many mutilated cows, and Gabe Valdez became one of the lead investigators into the case, his son said. Greg Valdez says his father began a decades-long investigation into the large number of mutilations in northern New Mexico. Prior to his death in 2011, the former police officer determined that the mutilations and strange aircraft were, in fact, human-caused...read more>>>...

Quiet Please!

Daily OM: It’s been called the monkey mind – the endless chattering in your head as you jump in your mind from thought to thought while you daydream, analyze your relationships, or worry over the future. Eventually, you start to feel like your thoughts are spinning in circles and you’re left totally confused. One way to tame this wild creature in your head is through meditation – although the paradox is that when you clear your mind for meditation you actually invite the monkey in your mind to play. This is when you are given the opportunity to tame this mental beast by moving beyond thought – to become aware of a thought rather than thinking a thought. The difference is subtle, but significant. When you are aware of your thoughts, you can let your thoughts rise and float away without letting them pull you in different directions. Cultivating the Seed Within

Daily Om: In our noisy world, we often find ourselves longing for peace and searching to find it somewhere else. While it’s true that there are places we can visit where we can experience peace, such as sacred sites or buildings, we do not need to wait until we get to one of these places to feel at peace. Instead, we can learn to locate the seed of peace inside ourselves and cultivate it so that it grows into a reliable source of serenity that we can always access, no matter where we are. We experience peace when we are in a state of mental calm and serenity. It might surprise you to notice how infrequently you allow yourself to be free from anxiety. Realizing this is the first step to inner peace. If you wait until all the details of your life are taken care of to allow yourself to experience peace, you will never feel peaceful because there is always something that your mind can grab onto to create anxiety. The lights however did not fit the description of marine distress flares and there were no reports of any vessels in difficulties. The source of the lights remains unknown.  A Bermuda Harbour Radio spokesperson said, "On Monday 7th October at approximately 8.27pm, Bermuda Radio was advised by a resident near Bierman's quarry, of a series of bright lights in the sky to the west-southwest. "There were four consecutive sightings of a ring of white lights ascending in the area between Collector's Hill and McGall's Hill. Ego – Overcoming the Limitations of Personality While in Search of the Cosmic Self

Waking Times: The part of the person that is one’s ego is a construction of self arising from external views or perceptions of who we are. The ego measures us against others and competes for a greater sense of self and fulfillment, bound by ideas of what we have done in the past and what we will do in the future and limited to a single dimensional aspect of self. Ego therefore is a unique tasking system of analyzing, judging and labeling, thus creating in your mind who you think you are. The ego can never be satisfied, and, because is exists on the outward surface, it can never attain a connection to universal cosmic awareness of self and others. To get beyond our ego self, we must manifest a new orientation towards a greater awareness and a connection to soul self. All of our fears, judgments, thoughts and emotions are part of ego. Beneath the ego is the soul where we can process the world though love and compassion and a sense of unity to all of the cosmos....read more>>>...

It’s About Shutting You Down

Forget the Government Shutdown -- It's About Shutting YOU Down! Americans are being treated to political theater at its finest. It's not a theater of entertainment, however, but a coliseum of enslavement where in the world of deception, perception becomes reality. This theater requires audience participation, where we, the theater-goers, become part of the play. We are a truly captive audience, entranced into mindlessly choosing sides at the frenzied urging of the corporate media and partisan cheerleaders firmly seated behind the microphones and television cameras of the nationally syndicated media.

Surrender Box

Daily OM: There are times when our minds become too full. Our to-do lists, worries, plans, and dreams may be so crowded together in our heads that we don’t have room to think. We may believe that we are somehow taking care of our desires and concerns by keeping them at the forefront of our minds. In maintaining our mental hold on every detail, however, we may actually delay the realization of our dreams and the resolution of our worries because we won’t let them go. At times such as these, we may want to use a surrender box. A surrender box allows us to let go of our worries and desires so the universe can take care of them for us. We write down what we want or need to happen and then place the note into a box. By writing and placing our thoughts in the box, we are taking action and letting the universe know we need help and are willing to surrender our feelings. We give ourselves permission to not concern ourselves with that problem any longer and trust that the universe is taking care of it. You may even want to decorate your box and place it in a special place. Your surrender box is a sacred container for your worries. Not only do you free up space in your mind by letting go of our worries and desires and dropping them into your surrender box, but you are giving your burden over to a higher power. Once we drop our worries and desires into the surrender box, we free our minds so we can be fully present in each moment...read more>>>....

Quote for the Day

"There is an Indian Belief that everyone is in a house of four rooms: A physical, a mental, an emotional and a spiritual. Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time, but unless we go into every room everyday, even if only to keep it aired, we are not complete."  -- Rumer Godden

The War on the Cathars

New Dawn: The “Cathar heresy” that struck Southern France in the 13th century, and was viciously persecuted by the Roman Catholic Church, remains a pool of interest and intrigue. What really happened, and what did the Cathars actually believe? Wars between nations or faiths are commonplace. Sometimes, the leaders of nations turn against a minority resident within their own borders. But the Albigensian Crusade is unique in history, as the Pope on March 10, 1208 proclaimed a crusade against a ‘heresy’ that was present inside Catholic Europe itself. “These heretics are worse than the Saracens!” he proclaimed. In retrospect, the crusade was one of the bloodiest episodes in European history. Indeed, the decades-long persecution of simple folk has often been seen as the event that prepared the way for the birth of Protestantism, as it awakened ordinary Europeans to the realisation that something was not ‘quite’ right within the papal corridors. Today, the ‘heretics’ are most commonly known as Cathars, but historically they went under a number of guises for, in fact, they were not a uniform organisation at all....read more>>>...

Anti-Monsanto Activism

S.O.T.T: Monsanto perhaps is the world's most hated corporation. Considering the competition, it's not easy taking top honors.  GMO foods and ingredients are toxic. They're unsafe to eat. They're hazardous to human health. They should be banned. Monsanto's the leading producer.  GMOs poison people for profit. Independent studies explain. Agribusiness giants want all animal and vegetable life forms patented. They want worldwide food control. Getting it means everything produced for human consumption won't be safe to eat. Last May, tens of thousands of people marched against Monsanto. They did so in dozens of countries worldwide. They want consumer protections enacted. They want safe food to eat. They want governments assuring it. They want GMO foods and ingredients labeled. Ideally they want them banned...read more>>>...

Is this the man who took Maddie? Scotland Yard releases two e-fits of 'smirking' suspect and promises 'revelation' on tonight's Crimewatch

Daily Mail: Police today issued two e-fits of a man they suspect may have been involved in the abduction of Madeleine McCann. The images, based on statements from two key witnesses, differ – but each shows him with an intense stare and a hint of a smile. Detectives say the man – who may speak German and is white, aged 20 to 40 with short brown hair, medium height and build, and clean-shaven – is of ‘vital importance’ to the inquiry. He was seen near the McCanns’ holiday flat in Portugal on the night Madeleine vanished six years ago. Scotland Yard detectives released the computer generated images ahead of a BBC1 Crimewatch appeal tonight, which they hope will result in a major breakthrough...read more>>>...

Staying Grounded in a Big City or Busy World

Daily OM: 1. Live simply and live deliberately. By choosing not to get caught up in the details of this fast-paced world, you are doing your part to slow down the . You will also discover that you have more time to enjoy being alive.

2. Stay in touch with yourself. Soul searching, meditation, and journaling are just a few of the many activities you can take part in to stay aware and learn as much as you can about your emotions, reactions, likes, dislikes, dreams, and fears. Having a solid sense of self gives you a firm foundation for living in this world.

3. Support or teach others as often as you can. This can help you form connections with people while also giving you an opportunity to make the world a better place.

4. Consciously choose what you will allow into your being. The media bombards us with visions of hate, war, and pain. Be judicious about what you read, watch, and listen to.

5. Acknowledge the beauty that resides around you. Whether you live in a sprawling metropolis or a stereotypical suburb, there are natural and man-made wonders just waiting to be discovered by you...read more>>>...

Quote for the Day

"Follow the three R's: Respect for self, respect for others and responsibility for all your actions." -- Dali Lama

Quest of the Spiritual Warrior

Augur Eye: A term we see increasingly these days is spiritual warrior: and though at first it may sound heroic and noble, when you really think it over it's just another oxymoron likemilitary intelligence, & jumbo shrimp. Outwardly the spiritual warrior is one who champions the cause of spirituality by daily practicing it in a way which strengthens the soul and inspires others. On a deeper level the spiritual warrior forever walks the shadows between the darkness and the light, standing guard against those dark brothers in dark robes. Perhaps the greatest battle the spiritual warrior fights is the one within; coming to terms with the duality and dichotomy of existence itself. To some, the undertaking of spiritual practice at first seems to be all about expanding our spiritual horizons, to become a fully realized being on all levels. Because we seek to better ourselves does not mean we are better than others in any way. In fact, the whole point of spiritual practice isn't to become bigger or more, but rather to disappear all together, dissolved into the one cosmic consciousness. The "more spiritual" we become, the less likely we are to see violence as an option; and yet so very often the way of the warrior embraces it to one degree or another; that in the end we become thepeaceful warriors Dan Millman wrote about...read more>>>...

Whale Medicine

Native Americans teach us that the Great Spirit speaks to us through our animal brethren. The whale is one animal that we can learn from. Whales have existed for over 50 million years and are considered to be record-keepers who possess knowledge of the past.

It is through the vibrations of their unique sound that they release this ancient wisdom to us. At the same time, their sound carries across such great distances that whales can enter the realm of the future where they can acquire knowledge of what is to come. Every whale sings a song, and they never repeat the same pattern when they sing their song. Since whales must be conscious at all times in order to breathe, they cannot afford to fall into an unconscious state for too long. Never completely asleep, their brain has constant access to the collective unconscious where all answers lie. Whales float peacefully, secure in the ocean environment that supports and sustains them.

You can learn from the wisdom of whales by remembering to express what’s uniquely yours. Each of us has a unique “song” or gift to offer the world. Your song is meant to be sung by you and heard by others. No one else can sing this song but you, and your song is medicine for the healing of the planet. Like whales, you can choose to access information about the future when you go into a meditative state. Whales teach us to look at where we came from and where we are headed. Knowing that our past helps shape our future, we can remember to make positive choices regarding our lives, the environment, and our world. Like whales, we can remember to stay awake and actively engaged in a universe that supports and sustains us. When we express ourselves and share our unique gifts, we add our wisdom and vibration to the planet. (Daily Om)

Mystic Insight for the Day

'Life is a cyclic experience. The point we reach when we die is exactly the same point we arrive on the wheel of this life. Therefore, we carry inherent soul memory of this life through this life from the moment of birth to our last breath ... human is a linear time controlled experience from birth to death, whereas the soul is a spontaneous experience meaning it exists beyond human time and experiences the past, the present and the future simultaneously. Therefore we already know of our life experiences prior to them happening ....!" - Matthew James Medium

Gripe Of The Day

Not often I gripe ... but I had to tidy up the mess left by a so called professional 'psychic medium' today ... a lady client who'd been told by a Canberra reader that she had an evil spirit around her, and that this evil spirit was going to hurt her Dad!

I was appalled to hear what had been said to her; and had to spend time deconstructing the damage done by this chump!

NO you don't have an evil spirit around you. It was the fear of the other reader being manifest in your life. NO the evil spirit is not going to harm your father ... the 'evil spirit' was actually her DAD'S MOTHER was kind and gentle and very compassionate ...

When are people going to learn they are dealing with people's souls when spreading this BS???? This poor client was nearly driven to suicide as she knows her Grandmother is around her all the time and was convinced she had an evil spirit haunting her --- Matthew James

Restorative Slumber

Daily OM: As we focus on the many obligations we gladly undertake in order to create the lives we want, sleep is often the first activity that we sacrifice. We’re compelled by both external and internal pressures to be productive during many of our waking hours. While this can lead to great feats of accomplishment, it also disrupts the body’s natural cycles and leaves us craving rest. Napping represents a pleasurable remedy to this widespread sleep deprivation. Though judged by many as a pastime of little children or the lazy, the need for a nap is a trait that all mammals share and an acceptable part of the day in many countries. It is also a free and effortless way to improve our health and lift our spirits. A nap is relaxing and can improve our mood, vision, reflexes, and memory. Lack of sleep, whether ongoing or the result of a single night’s wakefulness, puts stress on the body and mind. It can negatively impact your physical and mental health. At one time, napping was considered a natural part of life. In the past hundred years, however, electricity and modern conveniences have provided us with more time to engage in personal and professional activities. Consequently there is now less time for sleep. A mere ten minutes of sleep in the middle of the day can leave you feeling more cheerful and alert. A half-hour long nap can sharpen your senses and refresh your energy reserves, and a shorter nap can even sustain you through a long day. Napping can help you make up for lost sleep and serves as a supplement to your usual sleep schedule. You may need to give yourself permission to nap by making naptime a part of your day...read more>>>...

Mom's communication with dead son's spirit will turn skeptics into believers

S.O.T.T: When I first read the headline "Physician Claims She's Communicating With Her Son's Spirit," I kind of rolled my eyes. Okay, I didn't kind of, I totally did. I tend to err on the side of skepticism when it comes to postmortem communication.

But after watching an interview with Dr. Elisa Medhus, who claims she's in frequent communication with her late son -- and we're not talking doors randomly slamming shut kind of communication here, we're talking serious communication -- I may be a bit of a believer.

Not a huge believer, but a believer.

According to Medhus, three days after her son Erik took his own life, he appeared before her husband to tell him he was okay. As she tells it, Erik, who was standing near his truck, said to his father, "Papa? This is how I felt before ..." and leaned in, exuding a "horrible sadness." He then backed away and said,

"This is how I feel now ..." and, again, leaned in, but this time, radiated "a euphoria." Since then, Erik has communicated with his parents many times, as well as Elisa's father, who's "an atheist."

Maybe it's the fact that Medhus is a physician who was raised by atheists, or the fact that she's just really convincing, that makes me tend to buy what she's selling a bit. I mean, isn't the basis of doctors' entire professions science? And the belief that nothing exists beyond it?

Sure, it's totally plausible that people believe what they want to believe after they lose someone they love, but when you take Medhus' medical background and her atheist upbringing, it's a little hard to dismiss her totally...read more>>>...

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness -- Dalai Lama

Talismans

Daily Om: For millennia, mankind has found peace and solace in objects of significance. When cleansed and consecrated through ritual, such objects – be they gems, amulets, herbs, or written words – become talismans. A talisman is any item imbued with a specific power by its bearer to serve a specific intention. Ancient Egyptians used massive stone tablets as healing talismans while the Greeks and Romans used lead talismans to communicate with the spirit realm. Traditionally, a talisman acts to anchor energy in the physical plane. That energy may be protective in nature or may be intended to draw abundance, wealth, or a wide variety of blessings to its user. Today, a talisman may be made of wood, metal, paper, stone, or natural elements such as plants. Often, talismans are small enough to be easily worn or carried, and they may be marked with words or symbols that the talisman’s owner deems meaningful. Creating and owning a talisman can reassure you and also serve to aide you in attracting what you want in life. You may use your talisman to help you attain health, security, or good luck. Or you may simply want to carry an object with you that will remind you of your search for soulful tranquility...read more>>>...

"Choices & Illusions" by Eldon Taylor

"Choices & Illusions is a powerful masterpiece. It makes you think about those things that are really important, but which have been stored away in the ‘read later’ file. This book provides you with a wonderful opportunity to contemplate those important matters, now, and in one place" …. Matthew James

'I found this to be a VERY thought provoking read. Some excellent points raised regarding consciousness and mind. Eldon has a unique and humorous writing style that I like. This is one of those books that are hard to put down once you start engaging in the inner dialogue provoked by Eldon's thoughts and images which pop up out of the book. I love his analogies and his comparisons with the everyday life - his way of explaining things are superb. He includes his own life experiences too, to further illustrate what was on his mind at the time he was writing. We also get a peak of the real person in his book. We see Eldon's sense of humour and his own inimitable view on life. In one incident, Eldon recounts the experience of having the side of his car smashed into by an old gentleman with no insurance or driver's licence. Needless to say he saw the funny side, and he used the account to illustrate his 'change of attitude' towards blame; one of the many discussion points in this fabulous book. Personally, Choices & Illusion is very much a reference book and a 'guide to life'. A book I will be revisiting again and again!  ... Matthew James

Nine Ways to Help Others Awaken to Consciousness

Daily Om: 1. Living by your values allows you to become a positive source of inspiration for others. Don’t hide – express yourself and embrace life without reservation. By simply being yourself, you can help the people in your life see how one person can make a difference by being a living example of consciousness.

2. When you communicate your views, do so casually and in a nondogmatic manner. Allow the people you speak with to ask questions. Offer only as much information as they are ready to hear.

3. Igniting the spark of consciousness can be as easy as giving someone a gift. A favorite book, a medicine bag, or a beautiful gemstone can pique your loved ones’ curiosity and prompt them to begin an exploration of the soul.

4. Teaching a friend, relative, or colleague to meditate or chant can put them on the path to consciousness while simultaneously reducing their stress levels.

5. Others may want to know more about living consciously but are unsure of how to begin. Starting a discussion group – even a virtual one – can help you reach out to individuals that are eager to learn...read more>>>...

"What every man needs, regardless of his job or the kind of work he is doing, is a vision of what his place is and may be. He needs an objective and a purpose. He needs a feeling and a belief that he has some worthwhile thing to do. What this is no one can tell him. It must be his own creation." -- Joseph M. Dodge
