New Zealand put on tsunami watch

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake has struck the Solomon Islands.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has placed New Zealand in a state of "watch".

There have been no reports of a tsunami. However if a tsunami was generated, it would have a travel time of 6 hours to New Zealand.

The Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management is watching and checking the situation with experts.

More information will be released as it comes to hand.
