Relief As Deluge Fears Evaporate

Sunday Express Headline; says: 'The worst of Britain's rains look set to be over for now after the feared deluge failed to materialise. There were fears that a heavy band of rain across south and central England on Saturday night could worsen floods across the south Midlands and Thames Valley. But forecasters say just 7-10mm of rain was recorded in the Midlands and the region is now unlikely to see any downpours for the next week. Forecasters on Saturday warned of between six to nine hours of persistent downpours which could reach 30-40mm. Gloucestershire Police said the rain was "much less severe" than expected and had no reports of major incidents or flash floods. John Hutchinson, forecaster at MeteoGroup UK, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "(Saturday) night may be the last sight of rain people will see for quite a while. "The next five or six days will not see much rain at all and there is likely to be quite a bit of sunshine around at times that will hopefully help continue the drying out process."
