After the Bank Holiday scorcher, meltdown on the motorways

Britain was facing traffic meltdown today as millions of motorists headed home after a scorching Bank Holiday. As the day went by, many motorways, including the M25 around London and parts of the M6, M5 and the M1 began to grind to a halt. The gridlock is expected to peak this evening as much of the country prepares to return to work tomorrow. Britain has enjoyed brilliant blue skies as the last Bank Holiday weekend of the year turned into a scorcher. After weeks of rain-drenched misery, soaring temperatures of up to 28C (82F) and two days of sun came as something of a shock for millions of Brits. (Daily Mail)
