Sirens blasting at Mt Ruapehu

NZ News Yahoo Headline; says: 'Warning sirens have sounded at Mt Ruapehu, New Zealand, this morning following last night's eruption, prompting a flurry of activity by emergency services already in the area. Reporter Rowena Duncum says the sirens blasted for a couple of seconds.

"A lot of Mt Ruapehu staff headed up the mountain and then we heard a fire engine come down the mountain followed by a police truck, both with sirens blazing and lights flashing."

It is not yet known whether the activity is related to fresh volcanic activity. One report says it was to alert emergency services to a road accident between a car and a bus at the intersection of State Highway 4 and Finlay Street in National Park village.
