Britain braced for 'worst storm of winter' on Monday as forecasters predict fierce winds and torrential rain

Winter's most ferocious storm is heading Britain's way, weathermen warned last night. (Daily Mail Friday 7th March 2008)

Heavy rain and winds of up to 80mph are expected to lash large parts of Britain on Monday.

The gales will be strong enough to cause serious damage as well as blow away any memories of the blues skies that made February the sunniest on record.

The worst weather will sweep into exposed western areas as well as coastal parts of the South, and could cause significant disruption to travel and power supplies. The latest storm will arrive a week after strong winds swept through Britain. They strengthened over Europe to leave a trail of destruction across several countries.
