'Counterparts'

Enter the necromancer into the sacred circle, the first light but a moment away
His face bowed, his mind deep in concentration ... holding a deepest thought
Imagery of destination captured by his inner eye; his spell of banishing complete
Summoning the silence he brings his staff to earth; a crashing reverberation of thunder overhead
His will .... matching that of his counterpart somewhere in the macrocosm;
Thoughts as one ... between the outer world and the inner world ...
The dawn light arrives, lifting the curtain of the night slowly; the fear of the dark ceases
His mortal ears hear the cacophony of dawn from far away .... so far away ...
The banishing is complete ... his mind is focussed, his will centred, summoned and controlled,
He is purified in the fire ... the bitter lessons of his life ....
His will consecrated to the summoning of the door ... the portal at the gates of dawn ...

Above the sacred circle the raven soars,
Gazing to the heavens ... its cackles merging with the dawn chorus
Lifting then to the ancient oak beyond that enchanted hillside
Waiting, watching ... ready ....

A sound ... one single sound in the darkness; a focal point
Shifting currents moving the jetsam on a whim; spinning round ....and round ... and round
Strong tides demand control, and the puppet can only ride the maelstrom
Flickers of moments before, flash before and move around this new existence ....
The blackness is all consuming; complete ... comforting;
The sound, one single note ... reverberating within; a perfect note ...
The cause of the tidal confusion out in the depths of emptiness;
A sound magnified ... attracting the flotsam, compelling that mote to accept this reality
As the ability to deny the inevitable capture slips away ... slips away.
The note now joined by another; by two; by three ...
Played in unison ... balancing the tides ... equalising the pulling
The frequency of the combined sound growing higher, higher ... lifting,
Creating solid components out there in the black ...
A chord of light, which pulls the flotsam now towards the unknown source ...

He stands alone on an alien world ... bedecked in wondrous sunlight from the two suns,
Contrasting light diffusion, of white, of yellow ... merging, electrifying him,
Blissfully he dips his translucent, iridescent feet into the lapping waters of the lake
Knowing ... his casting is complete ... his transition to the corresponding reality complete.
He awaits now the arrival of his surrogate race ... his adopted peoples for his time on this world,
Knowing his counterpart shall do the same on his world ... appearances will remain the same
Counterparts transported through the inner worlds ... to ‘borrow’ the accepted form of the other
So as not to draw any undue attention on their exchange .
