The ghost on the LOCKED pier: A-level student snaps ghoulish figure said to spook early morning anglers

At first glance, this photo appears to show an early morning sightseer enjoying the views from an English pier. But some believe it may in fact be the eerie ghoul that has haunted fishermen along the Somerset coastline for years after it emerged the pier was closed off to the public when the photo was taken. And student photographer Matthew Hales, 17, insists the man wasn't there when he took the picture of the incoming tide for his A Level coursework on an early morning trip to Clevedon, Somerset. Matthew, who studies at Brimpton Green and Chipping Sodbury Link Sixth Form, was trying to capture different stages of the incoming tide using a time lapse technique on his Nikon D3000, which captures pictures over a 30 second time frame, to later make a video from the stills. So it wasn't until he checked the individual frames that he realised he had captured a ghostly male figure standing on the Victorian pier at 6.45am - when the pier was closed off to the public until 10am. The gate entrance to the pier is locked over night until 10am every morning and only two local angling clubs and the piermistress have keys to open it.
