Daily Mail: When the vicar of Christ is standing down, it is only to be expected that the Almighty should take a personal interest. Some at least will see it that way after an extraordinary bolt of lightning struck the dome of St. Peter’s in Rome within hours of Pope Benedict VI stunning the Catholic world by announcing he was standing down – the first pope to do so for 600 years. Divine intervention? Who would deny it. But even by historic standards of Vatican power struggles, no-one could have predicted Pope Benedict XVI sending out a joyous message on his new-found Twitter account on Sunday, and then resigning on Monday. Or could that final twitter, a mere seven weeks after his first historic Papal tweet, have possibly contained a private message of forgiveness to the Vatican plotters he found so hard to control? ...read more>>>..
