The Black Swan

© Matthew James
The Black Swan glides silently across the troubled pond. Oblivious to the toxins and poisons which are reaching the surface of the pond from its dark and sickly bottom reaches. With eyes set on the scene ahead, the Black Swan is oblivious to the pieces of stagnant moss which float along the surface of the pond. Being maligned as the outcast, and different to the other inhabitants of the pond, The Black Swan cares not about the strange happenings that are troubling the other areas of the pond. Eyes see the destination that the other inhabitants have failed to ever see. For they have been mesmerised by the enchantment of the pond. The glamour that dictated the Black Swan was not a 'normal' inhabitant of the pond. All down to words of fear created by the ignorant, who saw colour has a reason to segregate. Who chose character assassination as a means to have the Black Swan constantly chastised and ridiculed for its uniqueness and its strange visions. Too late now for them, for the toxins and poisons have entered their minds and their bodies. For them they now will never leave the pond, for blindness shall make them swim in every decreasing circles within the pond. A sad reality for them ... because the Black Swan's vision of the edges of the pond were right after all. A sad reality for them .. because the Black Swan's explanation for the strange flapping folds of feathers was right after all. The other inhabitants had not been taught how to fly, because that truth had been taken away from them due to pond tradition. Yet somehow The Black Swan had questioned that belief and dared to defy the rules of the pond. Several flights above the pond revealed the truth ... there was indeed life beyond the pond...
