[Richie Allen]: On the day that the UK moved to Plan B to tackle the spread of the omicron variant, it’s been revealed that ministers are working on Plan C, which would see a return to pub and restaurant check-ins, social distancing and blanket mask wearing, at the very least.
Multiple news sources are reporting that preparations for Plan C are already underway.
From today, face masks are mandatory in cinemas and theatres. From next week, you’ll need to show a vaccine passport to get into a concert or a football match.
Will Plan C include lockdowns for the unjabbed? Compulsory vaccination? Possibly. Professor Kevin Fenton is Public Health England’s Regional Director of Public Health for London. He was on BBC Radio 4 this morning. On the prospect of mandatory vaccination he said:
“Many national conversations that are going to have to take place as we move from our second and into our third year of the pandemic.
It’s a dialogue that says to members of the public, here’s where we are at bringing this pandemic to an end, here’s the final mile which is going to be much more challenging and what are the things that we can do together.
I don’t think mandatory vaccines are the only option at all.”
Not the only option? So they’re an option then?
Of course they are.
