Working from home is very much part of this reality. Today, with my head down and focused on work - my reality was the office (Upstairs spare bedroom), the work laptop, the separate monitor screen and the music playing from speakers nearby.
Concentration was work content and that was my reality earlier in the day.
I snapped out of the reality, when at 5.30pm, there was the aroma of cooked food drifting up from downstairs. I realised it was tea time.
I shouted downstairs, asking what time was tea ready for. I quickly found out that tea had been and gone; mine was in the oven. Nothing untoward there.
It was when I learned that my Wife had shouted up to me at least four times that tea was ready. Twice from downstairs; once from the top of the stairs; and once from outside the bedroom door.
My music hadn't been that loud; I would have heard the calls.
Instead, I have a habit of moving into alternate realities. It is something I've been doing for years. I had been that focused on work and the music, I am likely to have shifted into an alternate reality; a reality where only the room existed. Since, the rest of the house was not in that reality, I would not have heard the calls.
