As is known, our new Prime Minister has a degree in English Literature from Cambridge University, Interesting therefore to consider whether there are remnants of Burnham’s studies in his approach to running our country.
As Burnham pours out a stream of TikTok videos – at the last count 207 in the last 12 months – there are queries regarding his motivation and his perceived audience. The most recent one featured an alarm clock but others have included bar snacks, buses and running. The overall message has apparently been one of bringing back hope for children and families. This message was reiterated by Chancellor John Healey when in a speech made on September 7th he proclaimed: “Good growth in every postcode. Hope in every heart.” Healey resolutely declined to respond to questions from the press regarding future tax rises. Perhaps an honest answer would have been at odds with putting hope in anybody’s heart.
