THUNDERSTORMS bringing more than a month’s rain in 48 hours are expected to hit much of England today. They could cause localised flooding and make roads treacherous. The Met Office issued a severe weather warning for 24 hours from 6am today for eastern England from the Sussex coast to the Tyne. A storm brewing over eastern France is moving north-west and is set to meet moist air here, causing heavy rain and thunderstorms. The worst-affected areas are likely to be east of the Greenwich meridian, with heavy rain sweeping up through Kent, Essex and East Anglia and into Lincolnshire.
