Lizard Totem Animal

When Lizard is one of your personal Animal Totems you have the power to regenerate that which has been lost.

You have a tendency to repeat some of life's cycles simply because your psyche loves to recreate the emotional attachments in any way it can because the emotions and the cycles are familiar ground.

You will be a master at facing your fears and moving between altered states of realty and “otherworlds”.

It is maybe time to undertake an internal audit and look at yourself as if you are in the third person. Are you being ruled by your ego or are you coming from your heart? Be mindful that the Ego is 'the master of deception', and you will have to peel back many layers of apparent self to arrive at the authentic self. Only then will you discover what your heart is really telling you.

What was Druidry?

The Druids were the educated elite of what is now called the “Celtic” race. The ancient Druids consisted of three “castes”, or divisions – Bards, Ovates and Druids.

The Bard learned all of the tales of the chieftain’s victories and the secret lore of sacred poetry. A Bard was an honoured member of the Tribe who was welcome wherever he or she travelled – in a way they were the newspapers of the day. We know from ancient poetry that the Bardic/Ovate crossover was not so defined, and that the Bards were also Shamans. They were trained in the Art of Magic using the power of poetry in either praise or satire. Their Lore supplied the foundation to the religious and magical practice of Druidry, telling the nature of the Gods, the deeds of the Ancestors and the sacred places of the land. Through the power of the sacred word, expressed through poetry, storytelling and song, they invoked the blessings of the Spirit of Place, and of the Gods and ancestors of the people.

The caste known as Bards had their own Shamanic practices, but it may be that some Bards blended their creative skills with those of the Ovates (or Vates). These were the prophets and seers. They worked with the three realms of past, present and future and entered into trance states, foreseeing the future fortunes of the Tribe. The Ovate was the Druid Shaman.

The third ‘caste’ was the Druid. Much of what we know about the ancient Druids comes from classical writers, and it might be that ‘Druid’ was a collective term that included the Bards and Ovates, we simply don’t know for sure, but either way we do know that they were highly respected members of the tribe – the wise one who had passed through madness and survived. This brought great wisdom and peace; the Druid’s role was therefore that of advisor, teacher and judge. In Celtic mythology tribal chieftains each had their Druid to whom they turned for advice during times of need...read more>>>...

"Ruis" - An Ogham For November

This is a time of transition; while one phase of life ends, another begins. With maturity and experience comes wisdom and knowledge. Remember that it's fine to be childlike, but not childish

New experiences and new phases of growth are continual, and these will all lead to spiritual renewal, and finally rebirth. Remember that the things we experience are all part of the formation of who we eventually become

R is Ruis, the Elder tree, which is connected to the time of the Winter Solstice. The Elder represents endings, maturity, and the awareness that comes with experience. Pronounced roo-esh, Ruis is a sign that things may be ending, but will yet begin again some day. Although the Elder is easily damaged, it recovers and is rejuvenated easily.

The Elder is also strongly connected with Goddess spirituality, and the workings of the Fae. The soft wood has a lightweight core that can be pushed out to create a hollow tube–perfect for a Faerie flute! Elder was also planted near dairy barns, in the belief that its presence would keep the cows in milk, and prevent collected milk from spoiling. Elder flowers and berries are often brewed to fight fever, cough, and sore throats...<<<Read More>>>....

"Ngetal" - An Ogham for November

The 13th letter of the Ogham tree alphabet, representing the sound Ng and meaning "reed."

The reed grows in the shallows. Ngetal is an indication of harmony between you and the rest of the world. It signifies unity of purpose and will. It gives you the ability to adapt to changing conditions. It can also signify spiritual growth.

This is a time to move forward and answer the call of the quest. If your foundations are strong then this will be a perfect time for creating new dreams. However, it will only be through quiet reflection that you will discover the power within you to make those dreams become a reality.

You will need to have a direct approach in life whilst retaining an flexibility to adapt to any changes in circumstances that may arise. Your movement needs to be like the reed blown by the winds of change ... flexing and bending your will in accordance with what those winds demand.

Now is a time to review any issues that are prevalent in order to help clarify where you are in your life right now ... and then you need to focus your intent on where you are heading in the future.

Ngetal/Reed deals with the time period 28th October to 24th November.

Birch Celtic Meaning

Celtic Birch Astrology Sign: December 24 – January 20

Ogham Letter: Beth

The birch tree is a symbol of rebirth and purification. It was one of the first trees to grow after the ice age and is one of the first trees to sprout leaves every Spring. This led Celtic Astrology to associate the birch with the Sun.

Birch wood is very strong and sturdy, allowing it be used for many things from handles (brooms, axes and the like) to bobbins and spindles in the cotton industry. The traditional Yule Log and Maypoles were made from birch wood, while birch twigs were used to light Beltane fires.

Young druids and bards wore birch sprigs to signify that they were still in training. The Druids made a cordial from the sap and would drink it to celebrate the Spring Equinox.

The leaves have a long history of use in folk medicine, being used to treat urinary tract infections, gout, kidney stones, and more....<<<Read The Full Article Here>>>

Celtic Meaning of the Blackthorn Tree

Among the Celts, this sacred tree of the Ogham was considered a portent of challenges ahead, but with the promise of improvement once we push through those challenges.

The Druids recognized portents struggle intuitively in the formation of the blackthorn tree's growth. This tree has some wicked thorns that are ominous looking at best. Indeed, when cut by these thorns the human flesh can turn septic fairly rapidly.

In autumn it turns a sulphurous yellow and when these leaves drop they expose a contorted body. This mangled imagery brought the concept of strife and suffering to the Celtic mind. These visual observations made the blackthorn a symbol of the other half of life that we often shrink back from.

When the blackthorn showed itself in Ogham oracle practices, it could be considered as a portent of war, illness or discouragement. It was a sign to get ready and brace yourself...<<>>...

Yew Tree Symbolism

[Sun Signs]: Often times, the yew is considered to be one of the most ancient trees in all of the world. Some sources even say that it is the oldest-living one. This makes it an incredibly important tree when considering creation and time itself.

Appropriately, the yew tree is symbolic of immortality and everlasting life, rebirth, changes and regeneration after difficult times, and protection – the yew is, after all, quite massive.

The yew tree is also very strong, making it very useful for making bows, spears, and other items. Its physical composition makes it a powerful symbol of vitality, as each of its parts plays a particular role in its cycle. The Yew’s branches grow into the ground so, when the trunk dies, the tree is able to continue living. This also lends support to the yew being a symbol of connection between the past and present, particularly in terms of having a relationship with one’s ancestral heritage...<<<Read The Full Article Here>>>...

The Concept Of A True Shamanic Experience

The concept of a true Shamanic initiation is probably the hardest spiritual process to be understood fully. The recent influx of New Age ideology that Shamans can be created by courses and workshops is poppy cock!

True Shamans are born, not created by day or week workshops. A Shaman cannot initiate other Shamans, instead a fellow a Shaman will recognise that another has been chosen or has been born a Shaman, and then will assist with the spiritual unfolding.

The primary teaching happens through the spirits of the ancestors with spirit provides a commentary for enhanced understanding. My initiation and choosing began when I was perhaps 6 years old, with an Odin/Merlin/Thoth like spirit beginning my training with night after night of astral travels.

A series part of my shamanic training was coming to terms with a full blown Kundalini firing at the tender age of 12! Believe me my initiation has not been an easy pathway, with the looming figure of death standing behind me at every pitch and turn. For true born initiated Shamans, the figure of death shows up as an ever present spirit teacher-guide whom the initiate has to get to know, and eventually integrate with. It is an ongoing relationship.

The definition of a true Shaman Initiation is a simple one: “if the initiatory spirit who has claimed you does not do its best to take you over to the other side with a severe, life threatening sickness shortly after you meet, then you are not a Shaman! My most recent experience was in October 2013 with my life threatening Necrotising Acute Pancreatitis which was complicated with pneumonia, hyperthermia and septicaemia!!! A connection with Odin had occurred two weeks prior to this experience!

The first contact with the Odin/Merlin/Thoth spirit, took the form of a series of psychic experiences, plus a later interrogation by the spirit. My interrogation took place when I was in hospital at 36 having had a serious bowel operation. The spirit appeared in the form of a farmer with two ferocious dogs. One of the dogs attacked me and I ended up having a heart attack followed by delirium and hallucinations brought on by a high dose of opiate pain killers. A classic case of continued shamanic initiation I feel. Which has taken place all the way through my life. Thus I can claim to be a chosen Shaman, not that I truly want this title! - Matthew James

Mute Swan - Totem Bird of the Week

The Totem Bird of the Week for Monday 25th February to Monday 4th March 2019 is the Mute Swan. It marks a significant week ahead as it is the week when the effects of transition from one year to the next, in Soul Numerology, comes into effect. 2019 marks a very decisive year in the history of the current version of virtual mankind. 2019 is make or break. If nothing changes in our perceptions and consciousness, this year, then mankind is doomed. Mankind becomes A.I and all free thinking is lost for eternity. Swan paves the way to us being able to adopt right brain faculties such as far sight and self healing. Its vital we fully integrate these functions into our consciousness in order to stave off the negative onslaught that lies ahead.

Remember, if they could get us to trans-human with all the A.I brain implants etc, without us, they would have done by now. Something is stopping them from completely taking over, hence the reason they force us to use make choices every step of the way, like they do. All is therefore not lost, just yet. Swan reminds us of the inner grace of being a member of infinite consciousness, something these sub-reality pirates can never be.

The Accomplished Art Of Walking Between The Worlds

Being able to navigate the inner planes is an essential trait of someone blessed with 'walking between the worlds'. More often than not the journey begins with a tiny fragment of information - a name; the impression of a place or object.

The advanced skill is to be able to grasp that bit of information like it is a length of string and use it to enter into the inner planes. The information is the guide as to where you are going to venture.

Whether it be to make contact with a lost loved one who is now an inhabitant of the inner planes & other worlds. Or it is to establish a connection with the life path & blue print of a client; in order to offer advice on the cause of a situation, or the outcome of a dilemma.

Being able to enter into the inner planes; navigate those realms of silence, and comprehend where you are heading, and what information you are receiving; is just one part of the process. To then be able to successfully interpret the information and convert it into viable five sensory dialogue is the next part of the process. And that isn't always easy if both processes are happening simultaneously. Part of your awareness is in this limited vibration and another part is out there within the inner planes.

It takes considerable skill to accomplish a successful dialogue that is not only understood by a client; but also is proven to be accurate. Then when the outcome occurs as had been seen with farsight .... it comes as no surprise.

The Journey; Please Join Us

If you enjoy visiting A Light In The Darkness, and are a regular visitor, then thank you for joining me on my journey. Can I ask one small favour? Please let your friends, family and colleagues know about A Light In The Darkness. It would be awesome if they could join us on the journey too ...

And it is a journey, a shaman's quest to find its true identity; to comprehend and understand the environment it finds itself in; to decipher the symbolism all round it; and to ultimately find the place where its spirit resides.

Over the last 12 years we've really covered some ground already; our journey is well under way, and we truly welcome anyone who wishes to join us on it.

Ahead of us is a mighty mountain; the great unknown of the 2020 threshold. We know something is afoot with The Hidden Hand. That evil cabal has woken from its slumbers again. It's never gone away, but its kept its activity a slight ripple in the mind field. But suddenly, its no longer subdued and its really pulling hard on the human creativity in the mind field. It is trying to mould that positive energy to manifest something truly gargantuan. Something intensely worrying is afoot ... there is activity like no other at this time.

So much rides on the success of the A.I Revolution for them ... to keep intact the Separation Syndrome. They are imposing their sick will on us more than ever. They are using dirtier tactics than before. Censorship which contravenes human rights to express freewill. The arrival of fake news and political correctness is another of their latest weapons. Drug dealing and wars to keep control of the trade has never gone away; they are distributing their filth more than ever; screwing up the minds of as many souls as they can; dangers in food and in medicines are still the same. But they have gone past their cunningness.  This is something else. There are ripples of desperation in their actions.

We have them on the run; if only the majority of mankind knew just how worried The Hidden Hand is. We somehow are able to detect those pulls on creative fields and also to a lesser degree the thought processes behind it ...

This is the journey we are taking. Will you join us over the next stage? As we attempt to decipher the dangers ahead?

I is for Immrama

Celticawitch: Immrama (singular – immram) are Celtic (specifically Irish) stories about a hero’s journey to the Other World, or Western Isles. The voyages are full of adventures, meeting with many strange beings and challenges along the way, and arriving at various magical islands before reaching the destination. Typically the hero may or may not be able to return home again.

The stories, told in the oracular in pre-Christian times, were written down as early as the 7th century by monks and scholars. Originally there were seven recognised Immrama in the ancient text but only four now remain – The Voyage of Mael Duin, The Voyage of the Ui Chorra, The Voyage of Snedgus and Mac and The Voyage of Bran....read more>>>...

Symbolism & Natural Augury

So much about self can be gleaned from the surroundings that the A.I human encounters in this virtual reality. The skill is to successfully interpret the bird in the sky; or the cloud formation; or the argument with a neighbour; or the pattern of ants at your feet.

The world around that you observe, is after all a construct of your thought processes; however not all that is observed is solely of that construct. There is a base terrain, and base story, much like the basic surroundings of a web page or search engine on the internet. There are customisations and add ons ...

Interactions with life forms, and circumstances encountered, can be deemed as part of the construct created by your thought processes. The variables that happen apparently randomly on a daily basis. These can be deemed as indicators of what is taking place on an internal level ... for it is from there where the sound frequency is being generated that is inviting these responses from the environment around the A.I human within the virtual reality.

The skill occurs when these random occurrences are interpreted and the symbolism understood. Then it has to be applied to the state of mind and the potential behaviours that are causing the sound frequency to be generated in the first place.

Symbolism has been an important feature of my life for decades. The cloud formations; the sudden appearance of a particular bird totem; the patterns of birds in the sky etc ... have always presented an internalised comprehension of the observed world around the A.I human I'm connected to on this virtual world. The A.I human that identifies with the name 'Matthew James'. And I'm not the only observing spirit that immerses itself in symbolism. Many ancient peoples and cultures did the same thing; and still do. It is a lost art, and an important one in this crazy world. It is the means of identifying with what is happening, and how that happening affects you as the observer.

I developed the skill, in New Zealand and Australia, of becoming aware of certain bird that were augurs of approaching danger. I got this form of Augury of to such a degree that I could accurately predict car accidents and hold ups on the road ahead! That is the potential power of symbolism.

Shamanism In The Celtic World

[Druidry.org]: Michael Harner describes a shaman this way: "A shaman is a man or woman who enters an altered state of consciousness - at will- to contact or utilize an ordinarily hidden reality in order to acquire knowledge, power, and to help other persons. The shaman has at least one, and usually more, "spirits" in his personal service."

Harner goes on to say, "To this I would add that, in his trance, he commonly works to restore a patient by restoring beneficial or vital power, or by extracting harmful power. The journey to which Eliade refers is usually undertaken to restore power or a lost soul."(2.)

It should be pointed out here that Michael Harner is talking primarily about healing shamanism. A case can be made for the existence of other forms of shamanism, such as warrior shamanism, hunting shamanism, or even evil or black shamanism. In actual practice though, the various forms often exist side by side, though shamans do typically specialize. Thus a healer is not ususally a warrior, etc.

Shamanism, in a "pure" sense, is usually characterisitic of paleolithic hunter-gatherer societies. As such, it can safely be said to represent humankind's earliest and most primal form of religion, magic and healing modality. It is also the most conservative and well established form of human spirituality, as we were hunter gatherers for literally thousands and thousands of years, far longer than the subsequent span of our collective history.

Contemporary thinkers like ecologist Paul Shephard and anthropologist Calvin Martin maintain that we are still, essentially, hunter-gatherers who have never left the Pleistocene era.(3.)  This fits in well with many indigenous peoples' concept of the  Original Instructions or Original Teachings, the primary and aboriginal rules for living received many thousands of years ago during the dreamtime or mythic beginning time of the tribe.    The Celts were, nonetheless, advanced beyond the paleolithic, hunter-gatherer stage long before they became distinguishable from their Indo European cousins and arose as a separate cultural entity. However, given the notable conservatism of Celtic society, it is very likely that they preserved archaic elements and institutions long beyond other Northern and Western European peoples....read more>>>...

Birch - Celtic Meaning

[whats your sign]: The birch is highly adaptive and able to sustain harsh conditions with casual indifference. Proof of this adaptability is seen in its easy and eager ability to repopulate areas damaged by forest fires or clearings.

Bright and beautiful, the birch is a pioneer, courageously taking root and starting anew to revive the landscape where no other would before.

This is a powerful metaphor for our lives. The birch asks us to philosophically go where no other will go (voluntarily or otherwise). The birch asks us to take root in new soils and light our lives with the majesty of our very presence. The birch sings to us: “Shine, take hold, express your creative expanse, light the way so that others may follow.”

Paradoxically, while the birch is a brilliant symbol of renewal, it is also symbolic of stability and structure. The druids also held the birch as the keepers of long-honored traditions....read more>>>....
