The Problem With the Internet of Things

 The Internet of Things is the invention of the blue-sky dullards of around 10 years ago. I found a remarkable and depressing document, published by the World Economic Forum in 2015, entitled ‘Industrial Internet of Things’ – in collaboration with Accenture. Accenture? Who, who? (One of those evil corporations that hired all the clever undergraduates on graduation. Bluesman Robert Johnson in the 1990s: “I went down to McKinsey: Got down on my knees…” – that’s the song Crossroads if you don’t recognise it.) The WEF’s tagline on this document is ‘Committed to Improving the State of the World’. (Nice bit of trickery with language there. Notice how the world state hides in plain sight.)

The WEF did not claim to invent the term ‘The Internet of Things’. But it was terribly excited about it. It will “bring unprecedented opportunities”. But hang on. What is this thing, the Internet of Things? Here is a definition from p. 3:

Technological change [which] will combine the global reach of the internet with a new ability to directly control the physical world, including the machines, factories and infrastructure that define the modern landscape.

In short, “massive volumes of data”, “improved operational efficiency”, “collaboration between humans and machines”, It is a cross between Open AI, Amazon and Siri, then: and of course ornamented by the Chinese Social Credit system. It will result, says the WEF, in an “outcome economy”. Ever heard of that? There will no longer be products, it boldly claims, only “outcome-based services” that “deliver measurable results to customers”. In order to get whatever this means in practice, they say we need more “cybersecurity”, and, above all, more “interoperability”. Yes, indeed. “Industries, government and academia need to collaborate.” Oh, they do, do they?

The pamphlet is strewn with hopeful dross from various CEOs: “The Internet of Things is a ground zero for a new phase of global transformation…” And, a bit illiterately: “The Internet of Things is everything that has been promised to be.”...<<<Read More>>>...

UN CODES is using the fabricated climate crisis to usher in digital twins and the Internet of Things

 The United Nations CODES Action Plan (“the Plan”) was presented during the Fifth Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (“UNEA-5”) in February/March 2022. The Plan is a creation of the Coalition for Digital Environmental Sustainability (“CODES”), an alliance established in March 2021 in response to the UN Secretary General’s ‘Roadmap for Digital Cooperation’.

A few months later, in June 2022, the Plan was launched by a UN-backed coalition of 1,000 stakeholders from over 100 countries. It is championed by the United Nations Environment Programme (“UNEP”), the United Nations Development Programme (“UNDP”), the International Science Council (“ISC”), the German Environment Agency (“UBA”), the Kenya Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Future Earth and Sustainability in the Digital Age, a think tank at Concordia University, Canada. These co-champions act as the Secretariat for CODES, working closely with the UN Office of the Secretary General’s Envoy on Technology.

The Plan is meant to inform the emerging set of priorities for the ‘Global Digital Compact’ as set out in the UN Secretary-General’s report ‘Our Common Agenda’.

Our Common Agenda was released by António Guterres in September 2021 and called for the world to “turbocharge action” on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”). Scientists invent dirt-fuelled power source that 'lasts forever', based on 113 year-old tech

Scientists have developed a new type of fuel cell that can provide endless power through electricity harvested from dirt.

A team from Northwestern University in the US say the book-sized unit could be used to power sensors used in farming, as well as remote devices in the Internet of Things (IoT).

The technology works by generating electricity from naturally-occurring bacteria within the soil, offering a sustainable and renewable alternative to toxic and flammable batteries.

"These microbes are ubiquitous; they already live in soil everywhere," said George Wells, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at Northwestern University.

"We can use very simple engineered systems to capture their electricity. We're not going to power entire cities with this energy. But we can capture minute amounts of energy to fuel practical, low-power applications."

The soil-based microbial fuel cell (MFC) is based on a 113-year-old technology first developed by British botanist Michael Cressé Potter, who was the first person to successfully generate electricity from microorganisms.

It took until the 21st century for the first commercial applications to be proposed, with Foster's Brewing using a prototype to convert the yeast in brewery wastewater into electricity.

The latest fuel cell was tested in wet and dry conditions to power sensors measuring soil moisture and detecting touch, outlasting the power of similar technologies by 120 per cent.

"The number of devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) is constantly growing. If we imagine a future with trillions of these devices, we cannot build every one of them out of lithium, heavy metals and toxins that are dangerous to the environment," said Northwestern alumnus Bill Yen, who led the research.

"We need to find alternatives that can provide low amounts of energy to power a decentralised network of devices... As long as there is organic carbon in the soil for the microbes to break down, the fuel cell can potentially last forever."...<<<Read More>>>....

Individuals may even elect to trade their fiber-optic Internet connection for a home 5G receiver. But the interfaces that carriers have set up to manage Internet-of-things data are riddled with security vulnerabilities, according to research presented this week at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas. And those vulnerabilities could dog the industry long-term.

After years of examining potential security and privacy issues in mobile-data radio frequency standards, Technical University of Berlin researcher Altaf Shaik says he was curious to investigate the application programming interfaces (APIs) that carriers are offering to make IoT data accessible to developers. These are the conduits that applications can use to pull, say, real-time bus-tracking data or information about stock in a warehouse. Such APIs are ubiquitous in web services, but Shaik points out that they haven’t been widely used in core telecommunications offerings. Documents reveal Dutch Government is working with World Economic Forum to implement ‘The Great Reset’

 Documents released in response to an FOI request submitted by a member of the Dutch House of Representatives show that the Dutch Government is colluding with the World Economic Forum to implement The Great Reset.

‘The Netherlands is the proud host of the Global Co-ordination Secretariat (“GCS”) for the worldwide network of Food Innovation Hubs’, wrote Foodvalley; the leading European innovation hub in this network. It was great to have support for the initiative by Foodvalley members Mengniu Dairy, DSM and Unilever this week at the online WEF Davos panel session on the transformation of food systems,” Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on 26 January.

Foodvalley’s article continued: “More than 20 organisations are already working together as Food Innovation Hubs in Colombia, India, Europe, South-East Asia and several countries in Africa. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has provided multi-year support for the development of a Food Innovation Hub in India and several public and private sector partners have committed in-kind resources to support the development of hubs in various regions.”

What Foodvalley did not mention is that the Netherlands was host to the GCS because the Dutch government was planning to fund it.

Anything that runs on the Amazon “Alexa” system was also disabled, as were people’s Ring smart-doorbell units and other cloud-driven appliances and tech tools.

Street furniture and buildings can be used to host 5G network equipment more cheaply, quickly and with less visual impact compared with traditional phone masts. However, network operators often find it difficult to acquire the information needed to verify that a structure is suitable, such as its location, physical dimensions, proximity to the street or access to a power source.

In response, the government will invest in piloting the latest innovations in digital asset management platforms. What is 5g?

What Is The Internet Of Bodies (IoB)? And How Is It Changing Our World?

That may conjure up a few thoughts that have nothing to do with the true nature of the term, but it's about using the human body as the latest data platform.

At first, this concept seems quite creepy, but then when you realize the possibilities it creates, it becomes quite exciting. Here we explore what the Internet of Bodies is, some examples in use today, and a few of the challenges it presents.

When the Internet of Things (IoT) connects with your body, the result is the Internet of Bodies (IoB). The Internet of Bodies (IoB) is an extension of the IoT and basically connects the human body to a network through devices that are ingested, implanted, or connected to the body in some way. Once connected, data can be exchanged, and the body and device can be remotely monitored and controlled.

There are three generations of Internet of Bodies that include:

Body external: These are wearable devices such as Apple Watches or Fitbits that can monitor our health.

Body internal: These include pacemakers, cochlear implants, and digital pills that go inside our bodies to monitor or control various aspects of our health.

Body embedded: The third generation of the Internet of Bodies is embedded technology where technology and the human body are melded together and have a real-time connection to a remote machine.

Progress in wireless connectivity, materials, and tech innovation is allowing implantable medical devices (IMD) to scale and be viable in many applications.

The most recognized example of Internet of Bodies is a defibrillator or pacemaker, a small device placed in the abdomen or chest to help patients with heart conditions control abnormal heart rhythms with electrical impulses.
