Near-Death Experience: The Woman Saw the Crowd in the Huge Stadium

On a September night in 2016, Leni suffered from a severe migraine. She tossed and turned in bed and tried to decide whether to take another painkiller pill or still endure the pain.

The woman rolled over on her other side in an attempt to sleep and was struck by the bright light that suddenly burst into the bedroom.

At first Leni thought it was the light of a passing car and looked at the curtains, but they were tightly curtained. In the golden light, Leni saw a tunnel that led into a golden room, invisible from this side. The energy emanating from the tunnel was enveloping in love and kindness.

“I was lying in bed in a good deal of pain from the migraine. I was trying to decide whether to take more aspirin or let my body heal it. I rolled over to try to sleep and light was cast into my bedroom...<<<Read More>>>...

Patients told researchers about their near-death experiences

Professor Sam Parnia of NYU Langone Medical Center has been studying near-death experiences (NDEs), which include strange visions, out-of-body experiences, and other “alterations of reality,” for many years.

In the latest large study, which ran from 2017 to 2020, Parnia and his associates followed 567 patients at 25 hospitals in the US and UK. All of these patients suffered cardiac arrest and were then given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Resuscitation could not help most of them and people died, but 53 people were brought back to life. A third of them reported unusual sensations and visions during resuscitation.

Patient 1: “I heard my name repeated over and over again. And around me there were creatures – demons and monsters. It seemed to me that they were trying to tear pieces from my body. In the upper right corner of the place where I was, I noticed a man....<<<Read More>>>...

The Surprising Link Between Near-Death Experiences and Career Changes

A new Canadian study shows that near-death experiences (NDEs) don’t just change how people see life—they transform how they work.

Published in the Journal of Management, Spirituality & Religion, the research found that after brushing against death, employees often ditch chasing money and status for meaningful work and deeper connections.

NDEs are intense personal events some report after almost dying. These can include floating outside the body, reliving life moments, or feeling overwhelming unity and love....<<<Read More>>>...

Man Pronounced Dead After Lightning Strike Says “Nobody Dies”

In rare cases, individuals can be declared medically dead only to miraculously revive later—and one man who endured this after being struck by lightning has shared precisely what he witnessed.

Scientists have developed simulations to depict the sensations one might feel just before death, while brain studies suggest that, in a very literal sense, your life may flash before your eyes as the mind continues to function even after death.

Of course, nothing compares to the real experience—though, understandably, most cannot recount it, as returning from the dead is impossible.

Yet one man defied the odds in what can only be called a miracle, surviving an incident in 1975 that left him medically dead after a lightning strike....<<<Read More>>>...

Surge of Brain Activity at Death Could Hint at the “Soul Leaving the Body”

A sudden burst of energy in the brain during death could hint at the “soul leaving the body,” according to Dr. Stuart Hameroff, a professor at the University of Arizona.

Researchers have long observed patients experiencing vivid hallucinations after clinical death, when the heart stops but the brain shows electrical activity.

In 2009, George Washington University researchers studied seven clinically dead patients, detecting a surge of gamma waves—linked to perception and movement—lasting up to 90 seconds after the heart stopped.

Hameroff suggested this could indicate the “near-death experience” or the “soul leaving the body.”...<<<Read More>>>...

The Phantom World Hypothesis of NDEs/OBEs

A couple of weeks ago, Dr. Sam Parnia released a new mini-documentary about Near Death Experiences (NDEs), which he now coined a new term for: REDs, for ‘Recalled Experiences of Death.’ His argument is that, physiologically, these people weren’t merely near death, but actually died and were resuscitated thanks to modern medical technology.

Indeed, defining death as a state one can never return from is operationally contingent; it is arbitrary and ignores the physiology—the science—of the process. So I am comfortable with the term RED.

But I diverge. The point of this essay is a common feature of REDs and ‘Out of Body Experiences’ (OBEs) that have always stricken me as exceedingly odd: the claim by experiencers that they could perceive the colloquially physical world around them—from a mildly elevated, bird’s-eye perspective—during the period of, e.g., cardiac arrest, as if they still had working eyes and ears. This seems to violate logic, as evolution required hundreds of millions of years of painstaking adaption to come up with retinas and eardrums...<<<Read More>>>....

Man was declared dead and claims he was shown the afterlife

Vincent Tolman from the UK made an incredible journey into the afterlife after doctors declared him dead.

It all started when Tolman took an excessively high dose of a bodybuilding supplement, which led to a critical condition. Within 45 minutes, he showed no signs of life, and paramedics were preparing to take him to the morgue.

Vincent claims doctors tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him, then placed him in a body bag and took him to the hospital. Vincent said he watched everything happen as if it were a movie.

All the while, he could hear the thoughts of the people who witnessed his death, focusing particularly on one paramedic who had just started working and did not want anyone to die in his arms during his first week on the job....<<<Read More>>>...

A philosopher investigates near-death experiences

This project is a philosophical investigation into near-death experiences (NDEs). It attempts to answer the central question: Are near-death experiences veridical? The aim of my work is to defend the veridicality of near-death experiences within the framework of idealism.

However, this aim is not achieved simply by adopting an idealist standpoint. Instead, I present arguments for the reason this idealist standpoint is necessary. First, I argue that the traditional way of assessing near-death experiences is often oversimplified and carries an unnecessary bias in favour of a materialist interpretation, which eventually sets it up for a failure to demonstrate that an afterlife state can exist. Once this materialist bias is examined, I make an attempt to level the playing field, so to speak, to see where this equal level can take the discussion.

Ultimately, I argue that it is best to fit all evidence and arguments into a theory that best explains near-death experiences; and, the theory that best explains these experiences is philosophical idealism. At the end, I provide examples of this theory and also a synthesized version of the best imaginable theory to show in what way(s) these idealist theories can explain near-death experiences and in what way(s) near-death experiences can be demonstrated to be veridical in nature....<<<Read More>>>...

Woman who died for 24 minutes: ‘I feel like I dissolved’

A Virginia resident, Lauren Canaday, 39, who had a cardiac arrest and was revived using a defibrillator, described a profound warmth when reflecting on the 24 minutes she was clinically dead.

Canaday, who has managed epilepsy with medication for years, experienced a grand mal seizure at her home eight months ago, leading to loss of consciousness, as reported by Newsweek.

Upon her husband’s discovery, she had already turned blue. He promptly called 911 and performed CPR, a crucial action that ensured continued oxygen flow to her brain, potentially saving her life.

Medical responders administered four shocks to restart Canaday’s heart successfully. Subsequent hospital tests confirmed her positive Covid-19 status, suggesting that the viral infection might have triggered the cardiac arrest.

Doctors indicated she likely suffered from myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscles, known to occur as a complication of Covid infections....<<<Read More>>>...

The perception of time during near death and boredom

Time is one of those things that most of us take for granted. We spend our lives portioning it into work-time, family-time and me-time. Rarely do we sit and think about how and why we choreograph our lives through this strange medium. A lot of people only appreciate time when they have an experience that makes them realise how limited it is.

My own interest in time grew from one of those “time is running out” experiences. Eighteen years ago, while at university, I was driving down a country lane when another vehicle strayed onto my side of the road and collided with my car.

I can still vividly remember the way in which time slowed down, grinding to a near halt, in the moments before my car impacted with the oncoming vehicle. Time literally seemed to stand still. The elasticity of time and its ability to wax and wane in different situations shone out like never before. From that moment I was hooked....<<<Read More>>>...

Near death journey challenged an atheist’s belief system

There are many unanswered questions in life – the essence of life, existence beyond our planet, and what lies ahead after death. These mysteries have perplexed brilliant minds worldwide, with divergent beliefs about the afterlife.

While some strongly believe in heaven and hell or reincarnation, others deny the existence of an afterlife, proclaiming that we simply cease to exist. However, one man’s encounter during a near-death experience challenges this disbelief, reports jpost.com.

Jose Hernandez, an avowed atheist, shares how a life-altering incident transformed his perspective. Speaking to the YouTube channel Shaman Oaks, Hernandez recounts his extraordinary journey that began with a routine work assignment as an engineer.

Hernandez’s near-death experience occurred while fixing an electrical issue from atop a bucket truck....<<<Read More>>>...

Dr. Geoffrey Long: “Research has convinced me that there’s afterlife”

Jeffrey Long is an American author and researcher into the phenomenon of near-death experiences (NDEs). A physician by training, Long practices radiation oncology at a hospital in Louisiana.

Long is the author of Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences, which appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list. In 1998, he founded the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, which is concerned with documenting and researching NDEs.

Dr. Long defines near-death experiences as the conscious experience of people who are comatose or nearly dead, but who retain their perception and ability to interact with the world around them....<<<Read More>>>...

57 Year Old 'Dead Man' Describes His Resuscitation As If He Was Watching It: Is There Life After Death?

One remarkable story came from a 57 year old man who, despite being unconsciousness and dead, recalled watching the entire process of his resuscitation.

According to the authors, in a press release by the University of Southampton, "The recalled experience surrounding death merits a genuine investigation without prejudice."

Dr. Sam Parnia, the lead author of the study who is now a professor of Medicine at the NYU Langone Medical Center explains,

“We know the brain can’t function when the heart has stopped beating, but in this case, conscious awareness appears to have continued for up to three minutes into the period when the heart wasn’t beating, even though the brain typically shuts down within 20-30 seconds after the heart has stopped. The man described everything that had happened in the room, but importantly, he heard two bleeps from a machine that makes a noise at three minute intervals. So we could time how long the experienced lasted for. He seemed very credible and everything that he said had happened to him had actually happened."

He goes on to explain the significance,

"This is significant, since it has often been assumed that experiences in relation to death are likely hallucinations or illusions, occurring either before the heart stops or after the heart has been successfully restarted, but not an experience corresponding with ‘real’ events when the heart isn’t beating.”

Many people describe very specific details of what happened to them during cardiac arrest. They describe conversations people had, clothes people wore, events that went on 10 or 20 minutes into resuscitation, where certain people are located in a room for example and what they are doing. This is not compatible with brain activity.

It may be that some people receive better-quality resuscitation, and that, though there's no evidence to support it, they did have brain activity. Or it could indicate that human consciousness, the psyche, the soul, the self, continued to function. ...<<<Read More>>>...

Consciousness of people on the verge of life and death has been studied

An international team of scientists studied the experiences of people who were on the verge of life and death. The results, according to Medical Xpress, were presented at the American Heart Association Resuscitation Symposium in November this year.

The researchers interviewed 567 people who experienced cardiac arrest followed by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). All participants in the study spoke about what feelings they experienced. It turned out that they were significantly different from hallucinations and dreams.

In particular, as the study participants said, they experienced a sense of separation of consciousness from the body, and this happened without such side effects as pain or agony, and also evaluated their life, actions, intentions and thoughts in relation to other people.

They were also tested for latent brain activity: they all recorded bursts of activity, including gamma, delta, theta, alpha and beta waves, which lasted up to an hour after resuscitation.

Many of these impulses originate in conscious people involved in complex mental processes such as thinking, memory retrieval, and conscious perception.

It has been established that on the verge of life and death a person experiences a unique internal conscious experience....<<<Read More>>>...

Why Do Near-Death Experiences and Psychedelics Have a Transformational Effect?

In this sense of term, a near-death experience (or NDE) happens when a person is either very close to death (perhaps through a fall or in a coma) or actually does briefly die in a clinical sense. For instance, after cardiac arrest, a person’s brain and body may shut down for a short period before they are resuscitated. In many cases—about 20%, according to some studies—people report that even though their brain showed no signs of activity, they underwent a remarkable series of experiences. Typically, they report leaving their body and looking down from above (sometimes describing medical procedures in very specific detail), then floating away into space, sometimes through a dark tunnel towards a light. They report a tremendous well-being, with feelings of connectedness and love. Sometimes they see a review of their whole lives, flashing by in the space of a few seconds.

Although NDEs only last for a few minutes of normal time (at the most), they almost always have a transformational effect. People undergo a major shift in perspective and values. They become less materialistic and more altruistic; they feel more connected to nature, with more love and compassion for others. They have a heightened sense of beauty, and often relish solitude and inactivity in a way that they had never done before.

There have been many attempts to explain NDEs as an illusion or hallucination caused by unusual brain activity, but to date, no satisfactory explanation has emerged. In fact, in my view, the fact that the experiences almost always bring a powerful and permanent transformation strongly suggests that they are not an illusion. Illusions are rarely, if ever, life-changing....<<<Read More>>>...

Disappearance of Pain, Exit From The Body and More: Stages Through Which The Dying Go

I can personally vouch 100% there is no pain during a NDE. It's when yuo come back that the pain hits you. I'd suffered a near fatal illness, collapsed on the medical centre floor ... and left my body. There was no pain and bright sun lit meadows. Then someone called my name and I came back to earth and all the unbearable pain.

What happens when you die? A complete answer to this question can only be given by those who actually died. But so far we have no connections with them, so we have to rely on the testimony of those who died, but “returned” back.

Many doctors have encountered the phenomenon when a person who has been in a state of clinical death talks about strange visions, sounds or even smells that he saw, heard or felt in those moments when he was already considered a corpse.

Experts call this a near-death experience. Alas, but most doctors consider all this to be just “features of a dying brain.”

Fortunately, there are doctors who believe that there is something more mysterious here than the agony of neurons. Among them is Dr. Kathryn Mannix, who specializes in palliative care (care for the terminally ill and dying people).

“In my humble experience, death is probably not as scary as you would expect. Death, like birth, is really just a process. As the years go by, people just get more and more tired, they sleep more and stay awake less.” says Mannix...<<<Read More>>>....

The Neuroscience of Near-Death Experiences

When people report having profound out-of-body experiences during close brushes with death, skeptics often attribute it to physiological and psychological factors.

Robert Mays, who has studied near-death experiences (NDEs) for some 30 years, looked at some of these factors during a talk at the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) 2014 Conference in Newport Beach, Calif., on Aug. 29.

Hypoxia, or oxygen deprivation, is one often-cited cause. Another is rapid eye movement (REM) intrusion. REM is characteristic of the sleep state in which people often dream. REM intrusion is when REM activates during wakefulness, and some say the scenes of the afterlife, interactions with dead loved ones, life-reviews, and more, are a result of REM.

The experiences reported by NDEers diverge greatly, however, from the experiences usually reported under the conditions of hypoxia and REM intrusion, Mays said: “NDEers almost always report that they have had a hyper-real experience that far outshines our ordinary, conscious experience—that they felt the NDE realm was their true home, permeated by unconditional love, and that they are no longer afraid to die.”

“These characteristic aspects are simply not present with hypoxia, REM intrusion, and so on,” Mays said.

Researchers at the University of Liège in Belgium looked at other physiological aspects. They wondered if people who have NDE-like experiences during non-life-threatening situations—such as sleep, meditation, or after fainting—would describe the same feelings as people who have NDEs during life-threatening situations, including cardiac arrest.

These two sets of situations involve very different physiological states. While skeptics may argue that the physiological conditions connected with cardiac arrest (such as hypoxia) may cause the NDE, if people who are physiologically normal have the same experiences, it suggests the cause of these experiences is not physiological....<<<Source>>>...

Near-death experiences are not hallucinations, scientists say

[Anomalien]: A new study examining “near-death experiences” has come to one important conclusion – it’s a real thing, even if we can’t explain it yet.

A huge number of people claimed that their life “flew before their eyes” or that they really left their body and went somewhere else, being close to death.

Some scientists have called these experiences hallucinations or delusions, but researchers at New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine say something else is actually going on.

A team of researchers from several medical fields, including neuroscience, critical care, psychiatry, psychology, social sciences and humanities, came to a number of conclusions after looking at unexplained-conscious episodes that are associated with a heightened state of consciousness.

The main conclusion is that these events have nothing to do with what a person experiences if they are hallucinating or taking a psychedelic drug. Instead, near-death survivors typically report five distinct experiences...<<<Read More>>>....
