Let’s Talk About…The Manchester Synagogue Attack

 The days ago, a Synagogue in Manchester was allegedly the site of a terrorist attack, when a knife-wielding Muslim man attacked Jews gathering for Yom Kippur, killing two and injuring four.

The suspect was allegedly shot by armed police officers, bringing the total death count to three.

Since then we’ve been told the suspect’s name was Jihad Al-Shamie, that he was out on bail for rape, and that at least two of the victims may have been hit by police gunfire:

Greater Manchester Police said that its officers shot one of the two victims who died in the attack on a synagogue in the city as well as one of the injured survivors.

The story is…odd.

 The term “false flag” originates from sailing ships flying a fake flag to deceive ships in an opposing navy, and has been used throughout history in various forms.

Historical examples include the Reichstag fire in 1933 and the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Modern examples include the 9/11 attacks and the covid pandemic.

The name “false flag” comes from the days when naughty captains of sailing ships used to put up a flag suggesting that they belonged to an opposing navy. The innocent ship captains, seeing a replica of their own flag fluttering aloft, would merrily assume that they could safely approach to exchange cooking recipes and favourite holiday resorts with a fellow captain.

Then, suddenly, whoosh, a flurry of cannon balls would tear away their mizzen mast (I read the Horatio Hornblower stories when I was young), leaving them vulnerable to a quick and humiliating capture.

Pirates used to favour the same trick. Down would come the Jolly Roger. And up would go the Spanish or British flag.

Another fake ‘strain’ of bird flu confirmed in UK – as mass cull ordered

 All birds at the St Ives premises will now be humanely killed, with a 3km protection zone and 10km protection zone put in place.

The last avian flu outbreak in the UK happened in February (described as the country’s largest ever) and involved the H5N1 virus.

It comes less than two weeks after a similar outbreak was reported in Yorkshire, but with a different strain of the disease (H5N5).

The virus is typically spread through birds’ faeces, mucus and saliva.

Bird flu has killed hundreds of millions of birds around the globe in recent years, and has started to spread to mammals – leading to concerns it could result in human-to-human transmission.
