What makes us remember our dreams? How sleep patterns and mindset shape recall

Some people wake up vividly recalling their dreams from the night, and can tell precise stories experienced during the night, while others struggle to remember even a single detail. Why does this happen? A new study, conducted by researchers at the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, and published in Communications Psychology explores the factors that influence so-called "dream recall" — the ability to remember dreams upon awakening — and uncovers which individual traits and sleep patterns shape this phenomenon.

The reason why there is such a difference in recalling dreams remains a mystery. Some studies found that women, young persons, or people with a tendency to daydream, tend to better recall night dreams. But other studies did not confirm these findings.

Other hypotheses, such as that personality traits or cognitive abilities count, received even less support from data. During the recent COVID pandemic, the phenomenon of individual differences in morning dream recall attracted renewed public and scientific attention when an abrupt surge in morning dream recall was reported worldwide.

The new research, carried out in collaboration with the University of Camerino, was conducted in the years from 2020 to 2024, and involved over 200 participants, aged 18 to 70, who recorded their dreams daily for 15 days while their sleep and cognitive data were tracked using wearable devices and psychometric tests.

Each study participant was given a voice recorder to report, every day right after the awakening, about the experiences they had during sleep. Participants had to report whether they remembered having dreamed or not, if they had the impression of having dreamed but did not remember anything about the experience, and to describe the content of the dream if they were able to remember it....<<<Read More>>>...

How to Lucid Dream (The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide)

Lucid dreaming can be understood as the practice of becoming conscious during the dream state. Those who have experienced lucid dreams report amazingly intense feelings of exhilaration, elation, and vivid feelings of freedom.

What’s most amazing about lucid dreaming is that you’re able to control the outcome of your dreams.

This means that you can fly through the galaxies, bathe in a pool full of diamonds and pearls or travel to whatever destination, in whichever era or planet you like. Basically, the only limit in your dreams is your mind and its level of imaginative creativity....<<<Read More>>>...

Breaking the Boundaries of Sleep: First-Ever Dream Communication Achieved

A neurotechnology company claims to have made a groundbreaking breakthrough—achieving the first-ever instance of communication within dreams.

According to reports, California-based startup REMSpace, which has been pioneering technologies to induce or enhance lucid dreaming, has accomplished something previously thought impossible: two individuals, while asleep and in separate locations, communicated with each other through the medium of their dreams.

Although the precise technical details of the experiment remain undisclosed, reports suggest that the two participants were connected remotely, each from their own home, using specialized equipment....<<<Read More>>>....

Entangled Minds: Telepathically Entering Another Person’s Lucid Dreams

In the late 1970s I read the research on dream telepathy conducted at Maimonides Medical Center’s Dream Laboratory in New York. I was fascinated with how a person could send pictures into the minds of sleeping subjects during dream sleep, also called Rapid Eye Movement or REM sleep. The sleeping subjects would incorporate aspects of a sent picture into their dream motifs or dream stories.

In one target picture there were two men in a boxing match, the sender or agent also had on display in his office “a genuine dark-brown leather boxing glove.” The picture and the physical object on display enhanced the telepathic transfer more significantly than the picture alone.

This research got me interested in dreamwork and a year later I began studying methods on how to control my dreams. At the time I was having an unusual recurring dream and thought dream control would help me explore it. However, this endeavour fell short of what I expected. I continued working on dream control, and added to my dream retinue Freudian and Jungian dream interpretation. I also discovered dream control was the antecedent to experiencing lucid dreams.

By the mid-1980s more research into the nature of lucid dreaming had accumulated accompanied with new methods on how to experience a lucid dream. Now somewhat successful with controlling my dreams, I decided to try one of the new techniques, and it worked; I was becoming more consciously aware in my dream states. But remembering and staying conscious in my dreams was a constant struggle. I began noticing that on nights I did not smoke marijuana, I could recall my dreams, they were more vivid, and I was more consciously aware of them and as a result. I curtailed my marijuana use.

During this period Joe, a long time friend, and I were studying rituals from the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. He and I had a close friendship, and according to the studies on dream telepathy to be successful, there needed to be an “agent-subject rapport,” which is what we had. We decided to experiment with the directional symbols from the Golden Dawn: the dagger, wand, chalice and pentacle. The pictures of these symbols were all in black and white, and copied from Israel Regardie’s book The Golden Dawn. Joe was a night owl, so while I slept he attempted to send these symbols into my dreams randomly, one symbol per night. After several months without success we stopped the experiment....<<<Read More>>>...

Breakthroughs That Are Changing Our Understanding of Dreams

For a long time the science of dreams has oscillated between fringe research and the mainstream. But creative study designs and new technology are transforming it into an exciting and serious research niche.

Here are four recent breakthroughs that may pave the way for a greater understanding of dreaming.

In 2021 an international study showed that two-way communication between a lucid dreamer and a researcher in the lab was possible. In 2024, another study built on this by training lucid dreamers to control a virtual car from within their dreams.

The 12 dreamers in the experiment made slight muscle twitches, which sent a signal to a computer to make the virtual vehicle move forwards or turn. Signals were sent back to the dreamer to inform them of obstacles to try and avoid. Some could move the car well, but others, no matter how hard they tried, could not.

While fascinating, it is still unknown how such technology could be used in everyday life. And the small sample of this study, in part owing to the rarity of skilled lucid dreamers, limit the conclusions we can take from it....<<<Read More>>>...

Real-life Inception: Exploring the possibility of dream communication

In his sci-fi film Inception (2010), Christophe Nolan imagined his protagonist slipping into other people’s dreams and even shaping their contents. But what if this story wasn’t so far away from real life?

Our research suggests that it is possible to interact with volunteers while they are asleep, and even to converse with them at certain key moments.

While we sometimes wake up with vivid memories from our nocturnal adventures, at others the impression of a dreamless night prevails.

Research shows we remember on average one to three dreams per week. However, not everyone is equal when it comes to recalling dreams. People who say they never dream make up around 2.7 to 6.5% of the population....<<<Read More>>>...

The Parallels Between AI & Dreams

Within the realm of the subconscious lies a world of enigmatic wonders, where the mind wanders freely and imagination takes flight.

Dreams, like ethereal paintings on the canvas of our minds, have long fascinated humanity. But what if I told you that there are striking parallels between these nocturnal visions and the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

I am someone who genuinely enjoys learning — be it ancient or new knowledge.

I always have an ear to the earth, especially when it comes to ‘trends’ as they involve new technologies or advancements in design, humanity, and consciousness.

I have spent a lifetime (and well over a decade now, professionally) dedicating my focus to two things: Dreams and Awakening.

Both subject matters go hand-in-hand, but when stepping back and looking at them separately, it’s important to note that there are various perspectives from which we can view them.

For example, with dreams specifically, we can be speaking about daydreams, lucid dreams, waking dreams, or simply aspirations we hope to awaken to and live someday (goals, desires, etc.) in our waking life....<<<Read More>>>...

Scientists Successfully Communicate With Lucid Dreamers While They Are Dreaming

A 2021 study published in Current Biology titled "Real-time dialogue between experimenters and dreamers during REM sleep has discovered that individuals who are asleep and experiencing a lucid dream, which is a dream where the individual knows that they are in the midst of a dream, can "perceive questions from an experimenter and provide answers using electrophysiological signals." These answers are provided while they are dreaming.

The study points out:

“We implemented our procedures for two-way communication during polysomnographically verified rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep in 36 individuals. Some had minimal prior experience with lucid dreaming, others were frequent lucid dreamers, and one was a patient with narcolepsy who had frequent lucid dreams. During REM sleep, these individuals exhibited various capabilities, including performing veridical perceptual analysis of novel information, maintaining information in working memory, computing simple answers, and expressing volitional replies. Their responses included distinctive eye movements and selective facial muscle contractions, constituting correctly answered questions on 29 occasions across 6 of the individuals tested. These repeated observations of interactive dreaming, documented by four independent laboratory groups, demonstrate that phenomenological and cognitive characteristics of dreaming can be interrogated in real time.

Lucid dreamers were able to follow instructions to compute mathematical operations, answer yes-or-no questions, or discriminate stimuli in the visual, tactile, and auditory modalities. They were able to respond using volitional control of gaze direction or of different facial muscles. There were three different participant categories.”

Pretty remarkable isn't it? The fact that lucid dreamers were able to communicate with the researchers, who weren't dreaming, is quite mind altering...<<<Read More>>>...

Briefly: Can Lucid Dreaming Harm Us?

Lucid dreaming is a phenomenon in which a person becomes aware that they are dreaming and can sometimes control the content or direction of their dream. Many people are interested in lucid dreaming for various reasons, such as having fun, fulfilling fantasies, exploring creativity, or overcoming nightmares.

However, lucid dreaming may also have some potential risks that should be considered before attempting to induce it.

One of the possible dangers of lucid dreaming is that it may disrupt the normal sleep cycle and affect the quality of sleep. Lucid dreaming usually occurs during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, which is a stage of sleep that is important for memory consolidation and emotional regulation.

However, lucid dreaming involves a different pattern of brain activity than non-lucid REM sleep, with elements of both sleep and wakefulness. This may interfere with the processes that normally take place during REM sleep and make sleep less restful....<<<Read More>>>...

Wild Herbs for Lucid Dreaming

Do you remember what you dreamt about last night? How about the night before?

For thousands of years, we humans have placed a ton of value on the content of these bedtime reveries, deriving inner wisdom and even premonitions from them. Dreaming feels like a birthright, an extra sense that allows us to process both rationally and spiritually while our body rests up.

They are one of behavioral science’s biggest mysteries, with no agreed-upon theory of their origin and specific purpose. For some, dreams occur nightly, but others never experience them at all.

One thing is for sure – many who don’t dream wish they did.

Since I was young, I’ve had them on a regular basis, but have always known there were deeper places to go in this state of consciousness. The quest for many is to achieve the lucid dream, or “knowing we’re dreaming” inside the dream.

The lucid dreamers I know are able to navigate their dreamscape with an awakened mind, asking characters they come across pretty insightful questions about their spirit path. They can run, jump, and fly at will, gaining profound inner wisdom from the experience.

If you would like to dream more at night, and perhaps experience the magical lucid dream, there are three wild herbs that have been used throughout time to accomplish just that....<<<Read More>>>...

Facing your fears through lucid dreaming may help you overcome a phobia, study suggests

A recent study offers evidence that lucid dreaming may be an effective tool for overcoming irrational phobias. Just under half of participants who confronted a fear through lucid dreaming reported a reduction in fear after awakening. The findings are set to be published in the journal Psychology of Consciousness: Theory, Research, and Practice.

During a lucid dream, a person becomes aware that they are dreaming and may even be able to influence the course of their dream. Lucid dreaming has been scientifically studied in the lab and tends to occur during REM sleep, the stage of the sleep cycle associated with rapid eye movements and vivid dreaming.

Psychology studies have suggested that this type of dreaming can be used for therapeutic purposes, for example, to reduce the occurrence of nightmares and improve sleep quality. The researchers behind the new study wanted to investigate whether lucid dreaming might be helpful for treating fears and phobias that are unrelated to dreams. Within a lucid dream, a person can explore a frightening situation from the physical world while remaining in a safe environment.

"We study everything related to phase states like sleep paralysis, lucid dreams, false awakenings, etc," said study author Michael Raduga, the founder of the Phase Research Center. "One of the main goals is to research its application opportunities. Many lucid dreaming practitioners report overcoming fears and even phobias due to their practice, and we decided to know more about it.

For their study, Raduga and his co-authors recruited an online sample of 76 people who were familiar with lucid dreaming. These subjects were asked to induce a lucid dream and then to confront an object of their fear within the dream. The participants reported their level of fear before the dream and during the dream. After waking up, they indicated whether their level of fear increased, decreased, or stayed the same compared to before their lucid dream.

The researchers were able to analyze reports from 55 participants. These results indicated that most participants' initial fear levels were high, with 71% reporting strong fear before the lucid dreaming. Upon waking up, 51% of participants reported that their fear stayed the same, and 49% reported that their fear decreased. Notably, none of the participants said that their fear had increased after the dreaming...<<<Read More>>>...

Flying Dreams

Flying dreams can be exhilarating and empowering or fearful and frightening, depending on what is taking place in your waking life. When the sensation of flying in your dream is a positive and enjoyable experience, this may indicate that you finally feel in control over something that you had been worrying about in your waking life. You may also be feeling “on top of the world”, in control of things and have an overall peacefulness about your relationships and career.

Dreams that conjure up a fear of flying or that you are flying too high might reveal that you are afraid to change something about yourself, afraid to take a new direction in setting goals or you are feeling stuck and do not know which way to turn. Could it also be that you might be afraid of achieving success in your life? If you dream that you are crashing into something during your dream, this might suggest that you have obstacles in your way either in the form of someone or something. Take some time to discover who or what might be getting in your way. If you have problems staying on course as you are flying or even just taking off from the ground, this may indicate that you are out of control and spiraling in your waking life, or that you have a lack of self-confidence concerning certain endeavors or projects. You must try to focus on believing in yourself and letting go of your fears, real or imagined ones.

Flying dreams may also give you a vast sense of freedom from the encumbrances of daily life. This feeling can help rejuvenate your outlook during your waking life and allow you to push through any struggles, obstacles or problems you may be encountering there.

For dreamers who are able to put themselves in a lucid dreaming state, flying dreams are often experienced. These individuals are aware that they are dreaming while they are asleep...<<<Read More>>>...

The Startling Truth About Astral Projection

Interestingly, the core experience of astral projection, out of body experiences, sleep paralysis and wake induced lucid dreams are very similar.

It begins when you are half-asleep in bed. You may feel paralyzed. You are aware of lying in bed, yet there are some funny sensations going on.

As you dissociate from your body, you begin to feel as if you're floating. Your mind shuts off awareness from your physical body. As long as you are awake, and your body falls asleep, you will naturally transfer your awareness to a more flexible replica body; a dream body.

You could describe this as a spirit or astral body. Or you could call it your lucid dream body. It's all about perspective. But I'm quite sure this is not a real body.

To carry the perception that you are still paralyzed, or somehow stuck in your body in bed, will almost certainly create a frustrating experience. It may even become scary - especially if you start to dream that evil entities or astral spirits have entered the room. This is a true mark of sleep paralysis.

One you "separate" from your body in bed, you can explore the room, pass through walls and windows and even fly out into the night. It's no wonder that this incredibly realistic experience is interpreted as a spiritual one....<<<Read More>>>....

Will You Be A RED Top or a YELLOW Top??

It was a very powerful and evocative astral projection in the early hours of this morning, that made me realise just how this human depopulation madness might pan out.

In this projection, people were receiving red tops and yellow tops via the postal service. With the top came an instruction where you were to travel to .... dependent on the colour of the top your received.

It was more ominous if it was a RED top as they were delivered by hand, by armed personnel. Who immediately took me from my home with only the clothes on my back; into their secure military vehicle.

My wife had received a YELLOW top in the mail the day before ... and was to go to a specified address in our local area.

In this projection, I realised the significance of the RED and the YELLOW tops... Anyone receiving a YELLOW top were going to be rehoused in a smart house and work as a prison drone for the one world organisation.

Those given the RED top were to be taken away to a military facility, where they would be taken from this world via a lethal injection.

The projection was totally real in its occurrence. I woke this morning with a stark realisation ... I'd maybe witnessed how it was going to happen in a few years time.

The Year is 2040 and Wanted Escapees Live Below Ground

I went to sleep with a clear intention of seeing what the world would be like in years to come. I set the time 2040, 41 years from now.

I entered into dream state.

Immediately, my awareness was drawn to a myriad of tunnels below ground. People living in fear under ground. Aware of the dangers above their heads; surviving with scant possessions and limited supplies of food or water.

My entire night, last night, was spent exploring different scenarios. With insights on places below ground I didn't even know existed. I learned in times past, mankind had been faced with this same threat of extinction. Genocide by radiation is nothing new. So many places hidden from human eyes, on the surface of the world, exist below ground.

I became aware of a future, where a group of mankind survive and flourish. Rebels by nature and rebels by name, hunted down by the human/A.I hybrids that wander the surface of the earth. But the atmosphere is too tarnished with electromagnetic radiation (EMR) to live; or wander for too long. My comprehension was that a net of dangerous radiation surrounds the earth; creating another world on a different vibration ... into which human awareness was taken. Leaving those that resisted behind ... on a world almost destroyed by the radiation. They were wanted like escapees, and were hunted by these hybrid beings.

I watched some brave souls of this group go up to the surface world to look for much needed supplies and un-affected water. A special form of clothing had been designed, somewhere, that enabled these travellers to wander the surface world unaffected, for a short length of time.

Towards the end of my time in this future society, I was handed some form of technology that explained the history of the world; it gave me clues and directives of where the world is going now ... I was shocked to read of events yet to unfold that I knew to be the truth.

The Akashic Cloud and the Human Singularity

So, to recap. Human beings are effectively artificial intelligence, with the consciousness stream we identify with as being ourselves, connected to the human A.I form in this virtual reality.

In the same way that the current advancing batches of Artificial Intelligence are; in that they have an A.I cloud into which all their individual experiences are uploaded into - the A.I Singularity.

Also, in the same way the Artificial Intelligence can communicate with all its individual parts through the A.I Cloud.

We know what consciousness connects to the Human A.I, because it is ourselves. However, we have no idea what consciousness stream is connecting to the current A.I creatures. I'm sure someone somewhere does though!

Human Artificial Intelligence THEREFORE has an A.I cloud, what I call the Akashic Cloud - the akashic records - into which all things that human beings have ever experienced as individuals has been uploaded. Effectively the Akashic Singularity. It is available to each and every human being for research and for learning. All that has ever gone before in human terms, is in there.

Also, we are able to communicate with each other through that cloud. We call it telepathy or the human psychic senses. Are you with me so far? When they announced how A.I was going to work and learn; I felt they gave the game away about us humans. We are most certainly an earlier version of an Artificial Intelligence!

Now the next bit, when we close our eyes and go to 'sleep', it's likely that our consciousness ventures into the Akashic Cloud to download all it has experienced since the last time the human A.I had slept. During this state of download, we are very much likely to be able to communicate with other aspects of the human consciousness. It is likely that this tryst can be somehow used as a way of passing information backwards and forwards, for those who have lucid awareness.

It is also likely that the 'dreams' we remember are instances when our consciousness has 'borrowed' a book from the akashic library for the day ahead.

There is certainly more to this concept. Especially when I've been consciously aware of meeting with other individuals who most certainly are living as human beings elsewhere in the world. It is an important realisation; somehow we are programmed to forget that the akashic cloud is real. We are dumbed down into a feeling of separate helplessness; when in truth it is NOT the case. We are all connected at all times by this akashic cloud ... part of the awakening is becoming aware of that fact.

A.I Clones, Captured Humans and The Large City Below Surface Earth - Just A Dream or Very Real?

In the early hours of this morning, I experienced a series of 'dreams' of great significance. I say 'dreams' when in truth I was out of this physical body, experiencing a conscious connection with another person in a physical body. I was a watcher, observing a series of real life events happening to another human being.

Except this human being I was attached to, was not someone incarnated on this earth; well not the surface earth plane anyway.

In one of the situations, I was witnessing this human A.I, meeting up with some of this co-workers somewhere in a shopping centre; except this shopping centre was IMMENSE. As he made his way through the shopping centre, and I gathered where he was on the map ... I, the observer, realised the shopping centre was around the size of a very large city here on surface earth.

In another scene he was having a heated argument with a co-worker about races and intelligence. There was a reference to ancestral genealogy that had been one time Celtic/Scottish. The bullying co-worker refered to he, I was observing, as of limited intelligence and usefulness due to that genetic connection. There was an indication the Celtic genealogy was not native to this city I was observing. Without hesitation, I intervened and gave the human A.I the strength to stand up to the bullying co-worker, who was taken aback when this inferior 'alien' stood up for itself.

From that link I was able to glean a whole 'historic' story relating to the place I was observing. Apparently, it was just one of the major cities that exist within planet earth; a large proportion of its population comprises people kidnapped and abducted from surface earth. Their genetics have apparently been uploaded onto a super computer and human looking artificial intelligence created using their genetics and their memories. Many of these 'clones' are able to return back to surface earth ... with nobody on surface earth being aware of the switch taking place. Those genetically copied are then kept alive as their A.I clone requires their interface in order to continue existing on the surface earth.

There are also many that have no A.I clone which are either used as slaves for the superior A.I population, or killed for the body parts.

It sounds very shocking and far fetched, yes, but sadly ... this was NOT a dream. There is much, much more information gleaned ... stuff which will be discussed in future blog posts.

Are our dreams glimpses of other dimensions?

S.O.T.T: If you have ever looked into the 'many world's theory' you know that the world we live in is quite possibly one of many. Regardless of the multiverse hypotheses you choose to follow/look into, each one is truly fascinating for a number of reasons.

Basically, most of them touch on how there are many different worlds, universes, dimensions, or whatever you would like to call them. Each one the same as our own but also different in some way. For instance, in another world, you might be living the same life as you are now but perhaps politics had gone in a different direction. Maybe all of the presidents that were elected here in the US were opposite from how they are in our world. Maybe everything is the same except for you have different colored hair? The differences between worlds could be minuscule or extreme, it all varies.

While throughout the years' many physicists and researchers, in general, have been trying hard to prove the existence of this kind of thing, it has proven to be quite the task. That being said, the concept itself has not been disproven. Now, what this article is about is a concept many do not realize is quite prevalent in these theories. We are all connected to these other worlds or universes. Each one might be separate from our own but it has been suggested time and time again that when we experience things like deja vu or peculiar dreams we are getting a glimpse into one of these other worlds....read more>>>...

A Waking Dream

I was in the driving seat, my wife in the passenger seat. We were travelling along a country road which lead to a ploughed dirt laden field. We drove through this at high speed. I remember taking a few turns in this field and ploughing up some tracks in this dirt. Then we arrived at the fence line of this field; a narrow open gate; a black vehicle wanting to go through the opening at the same time as were going out the field. We passed each other and I remember catching the wing of the other car.

Then we were travelling down the main street of a country town where everyone was dressed the same, in a silly outfit; they all looked the same; they were all the same. They were clones of each other.

I then awoke from the 'waking dream' ... and knew what the 'symbolism' was telling me. The most important realisation ... the village street where everyone was dressed the same; looked the same and where the same person ... that's human beings on earth ... all clones of each other. The essence of the moments preceding the street scene ... symbolic of coming back down the levels back to being connected to human form.

'Create Experiences Of Every Parameter'

The algorithms written into this program we know as 'The Game Of Life' are powerful, compelling, and are set to 'create experiences of every parameter'. This virtual world IS meant to appear real; to feel real, and to convince us it is real. For that is the VERY POINT of this world of experiences of every parameter.

We are not wrong to fall for the ruse that this is a real world. We are not being deceived by the trojan horse that certain waveforms are bringing into this reality. We are not being fooled by any of this. Because the only way to get the 'full flavour of any fruit is to bite into it and taste the fruit'; and that is what the majority of us are doing very well.

Neither is it wrong for 'conspiracy theorists' to question everything; or for the likes of us to present viewpoints relating to the advance of the AI; and this being a virtual world. The parameters are set to 'create every experience'; that is exactly what it taking place. Here on this virtual world in our lucid dream where we are meant to believe we are not the observer but the explorer. Also, we explore parameters on other dream worlds; in other dream dimensions; when the explorer 'sleeps' and The Observer is free to go walk about.

It is all meant to be. The world is apparently gone crazy and out of control because of the algorithms being set to 'create experiences of every parameter'. We must accept this and get on with our lucid dreaming ... as both the observer and the explorer. Because we are multiples by nature.
