Mediation - A Definition Of True Contact

In orthodox 'religion' Mediation is seen as a function of a priest or priestess, where a mediator is one who acts as an interface between divinity and humanity.

In magic, however, mediation has a far more precise meaning, based on the essential truth that all contain divinity or 'the original being' within us. All are also contained within the Being of the universe. In true mediation, any individual can reach deeply into the states of consciousness where transcendent entities can be met. Such entities can be aspects of divinity; god-forms or beings which have transcended human expression and no longer incarnate on this plane.

In mediation, a human acts as a 'focus' or 'gateway' for the consciousness of such transcendent entities. But know this is not the sole purpose or type of mediation found in the magical arts. Mediation is not a matter of passive reception, such as the cliched and superficial process of 20th century 'mediumship', but of clarifying and refining personal modes of awareness. When these higher modes are attuned to inner worlds or beings which are vital to magic, mediation may arise.

Mediation is not a matter of 'receiving messages'. If this was the case then it would be virtually valueless as higher modes of awareness and higher spiritual energies actually transcend verbal communication. A true mediator may be able to translate certain key images of the spiritual realms into words, but the mediator is more likely to act as a channel for a specific energy or power to flow out into the magical circle and more ultimately into the world. Therefore, an initiate working magic, such as rituals or visualisations, may become a mediator through the simple act of ritual pattern making and the controlled use of the imagination. In the magical arts, anyone making a sign, or chanting a mantra, or visualising a symbol, is mediating the power of being through specific and dynamic magical archetypal channels. The more powerful effects of mediation, however, are not usually developed without years of effort and deliberate control.

Shamans 'astronauts of inner space'

S.O.T.T: Shamanism is as varied as those who practice it. Its practitioners range from indigenous lineages who have passed down their craft over thousands of years to the modern 'plastic shamans' (a.k.a Urban Shamans), who represent no specific culture but have adapted shamanism to meet the demands of metropolitan markets.

However, there is a common theme to shamanism wherever it is practised: the use of spiritual (or shamanic) trance to facilitate journeys to a non-ordinary reality. Here, in this non-ordinary reality, the shamans do their work. According to the historian of religion Mircea Eliade writing in 1951, shamanism is the 'technique of ecstasy', involving the purposeful invocation and use of dreams and visions to solve problems.

By this definition, shamanism is the landscape of the spirit-journey, populated by good and evil spirits and the souls of the deceased and yet-to-be-born. It is the place where mountains speak and Grandmother Skeleton points out which plants to eat when the dry season lasts too long. In this form, shamanism is everywhere in the old ways of humans. Every tribal culture - alive or dead - has some broker of spiritual capital. The Indonesian Mentawai have their sikerei. The Inuit have their angakok. The Columbian Desana have their paye. The Mongolian Buryat have their böö. The American Sioux have their heyoka ... read more>>>...

Twiddle Twaddle Deception

It was billed as a brilliant night of 'trance mediumship'. What was seen was a night of twiddle twaddle deception that a small audience of partisan 'believer's' fell for!

Its always been a disputed bone of contention, in our opinion, when a 'medium' claims to go into trance, and then starts talking in an 'foreign accent' then pretends that the spirit coming through them is a typical Native American (Unless you have Indigenous American blood they will not come to you!) It was a very poor rendition of trance mediumship, in truth. Its even worse when this so called dead person was claimed to come through at will! Again, that is NOT how it works.

The entire spectacle was outrageous and downright embarrassing, especially when the partisan audience really believed their comrade was channelling the dead spirit of a Native American.

We've seen the real thing a few times in the 1980's and this did not have any of the telltale signs that indicate something truly supernatural was taking place.

What was witnessed in this instance was a theatrical deception that was crazy and annoyingly outrageous. Those in the audience who really did believe the lies before them need their head examining if they really think this is how it works!!!
