'Voyage of Discovery'

Eyes witness the first light, the new dawn a misty grey
Rolling clouds across the sky, the sea unrelenting with its crashing waves
The wind cruel, the onset of winter apparent from the snow in the air
The beach bleak, its tapestry an unbroken grey
A yawn, a shiver, and the day dream is broken
Now is the time for travel, before a world truly wakens
With back turned to the sea, the traveller begins its ascent of the treacherous cliff
Skilled hands find holds, passage is lightning fast, the tree line is reached
Sanctuary from the rain, a well earned rest, a sharp intake of air
Keen eyes spot the entrance to the cavern, a fire can be lit once inside
Then after ice riddled bones are warmed, the adventure can begin
Down into the bowels of the earth is this travellers intention
Deep into the underworld, far away from the prying eyes of man
A voyage of discovery for the hardy soul, the chance of a life time
The telepathic voices imploring him to be swift ... be so very swift
It is your destiny, it is what you have known since birth
He cannot wait, the traveller feels his pounding heart
Later, in total black he travels, his flaming torch long expired
Fearless he ventures, comforted by the total blindness
Trusting his senses, he ne’er once loses his footing or catches the wall
To he it is easy, the voices leading him forward
Never does he doubt or regret the decision he has made
For he has turned his back on the world of man
The surface world of destruction and extreme survival
The place where evil has total hold, the realm of hatred
There where he no longer wishes to be part of
His life there now expired, his new life about to begin ....
