Image of the Day - A Strange Crop Circle

... an oddity alright. Nine 'faces' in what seems to be in top end of a fan or 'para'chute? I recall somewhere that 'para' means protection? The faces are almost 'faerie' like with one seemingly wearing a hat of some kind. The handle of the 'fan' has three circles with three spheres within them? Three realities or three dimensions within from which there nine entities or races of entities stem? Mmm .... then there are 6 smaller spheres outside of the fan ... 9 faces ... 6 spheres ... 3 circles with 3 spheres within. Odd symbolism. Would the creator of the circle step forward please and enlighten us? Is this some statement bold concerning protection or the need to be protected? I could extract both 6-6-6 and 7-7-7 from the symbolism here!

Isolation

There are times in our lives when withdrawing from our social obligations and taking some time to be alone is necessary to rejuvenate our energy and renew our connection to ourselves. However, there are also times when withdrawal is a red flag, indicating an underlying sense of depression or some other problem.

We may not even have consciously decided to isolate ourselves but wake up one day to find that we have been spending most of our time alone. Perhaps it’s been a long time since friends who used to call have given up. Without anyone inviting us out, we sink deeper into alienation.

The longer our isolation lasts, the harder it becomes to reach out to people. It is as if we have failed to exercise a particular muscle, and now it is so weak we don’t know how to use it. Yet, in order to return to a healthy, balanced state of being, that’s exactly what we need to do. If you find yourself in this situation, call an understanding friend who will listen to you with compassion, not a defensive friend who may have taken your withdrawal personally.

The last thing you need is to be chided; a negative response could intensity your isolation. If you don’t have a kind friend you can rely on, call a spiritual counselor or therapist. They may be able to help you determine the underlying cause of your isolation and help you find your way out of it. When you’ve been in a pattern of secluding yourself, it can begin to seem impossible that you could reenter the world of friendships, conversations, and group activities, but with time, you will.

Most people will understand if you take the time to explain that you’ve fallen out of touch and would like to reconnect. Take your time and be gentle with yourself, starting with one person and building from there. Try to reach out to one new person every week. Before you know it, you will find yourself back in the company of friends.

A Beach Meditation

Spend a few moments to get yourself sitting comfortably. Now, close your eyes ... let any stray thoughts of the day, and its mundane concerns, drift by ... until you reach a state where there are little or no thoughts in your mind to distract you from the journey ahead.

Now, focus all your attention on your breathing and your heart beat. Take several deep breaths, hold them in and exhale slowly. Do this three or four times until you feel an adjusted or altered state of consciousness coming in. At this point your mind may become invaded by a flurry of unconscious images ... ignore them. Concentrate on your breathing until you feel yourself drifting into a sleep like state ...

Now, focus your mind on a beach ... any imagery of a beach will do at this point. It can be a favourite beach ... but it has to be a sandy beach. See the golden sands stretching out in front of you. Become aware of the beach at this point and really build the imagery telling your awareness you are really there. Note the cloudless sky above you and the warm sun's rays on your face and arms.

Focus now on your feet ... they are bare ... the warmth and texture of the sand is felt from your feet. The sand is warm and comforting. Really build this comforting image. Then become aware you are walking across the sand leaving footprints. Your footprints retaining water as you head towards the water's edge. Turn your attention to the sea now ... it is some distance away from you. See the crashing break waters as you approach the water's edge. Stand there and really take in the scene.

Become aware of the surroundings and be fully aware of your participation in this journey ... it is not an image in your mind ... it is real ... and a projection. Feel your feet on the sand. Feel the sun on your arms and face. Become aware of the rest of your body at this time. Take note you will still be yourself as you know yourself in the mundane world. Just know these moments are precious ... and this journey is a refreshing time out... from the mad world we live in ....

Let the scene fade now ... feel safe in the knowledge you know you can return to this beach at any time you wish. Know the beach is the starting point from which many inner journeys begin. Know that you will be returning to this beach very soon ... next time to partake in a journey which will take you deeper into this inner landscape. A landscape which is in truth more real than the mundane world we call reality ...

Let it fade now ... you are back in your comfortable chair. Spend a moment to recap on the experience before slowly opening your eyes ....

Stunning pictures of 'hole in the clouds' as astronauts witness volcano eruption from the International Space Station

A chance recording by astronauts on the International Space Station has captured the moment a volcano explosively erupted, sending massive shockwaves through the atmosphere.

Sarychev Peak, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, had been sitting quietly in the Kuril Island chain near Japan for 20 years, when it suddenly sprang to life on June 12.

Fortuitously, the International Space Station was flying overhead at the time, and managed to capture this spectacular image of the ash-cloud tearing through the atmosphere, sending clouds scattering in its wake in a perfect circle.

The station, which orbits the earth from a height of 220 miles, makes nearly 16 orbits of our planet every 24 hours, and happened to be in the perfect spot to see the dramatic eruption.

The unique images have provided a wealth of new information about the eruption process, and volcanologists are now excitedly poring over the data.

Most unique is the mist-like 'roof' to the cloud, believed to be either steam or condensing water pushed ahead of the advancing cloud of ash. Known as a 'pileus cloud', it lasts just moments, making this a rare snapshot. Also visible, far below on the hillside, is the thunderous pyroclastic flow of super-heated rock as it cascades down the mountainside. When most people picture volcanoes, they imagine red-hot lava flows. Pyrochastic flows are their deadlier older brother. Appearing at the start of an explosive eruption, they can travel at 130mph, meaning there's nearly no escape for anyone or anything caught in its path. (Daily Mail)

A Word on "The Philosopher's Stone"

The philosopher's stone (Latin: lapis philosophorum; Greek: chrysopoeia), reputed to be hard as stone and malleable as wax, is a legendary alchemical tool, supposedly capable of turning base metals into gold; it was also sometimes believed to be an elixir of life, useful for rejuvenation and possibly for achieving immortality.

For a long time, it was the most sought-after goal in Western alchemy. In the view of alchemists like Sir Isaac Newton and Nicolas Flamel, familiarity with the philosopher's stone would bring enlightenment upon the maker and conclude the Great Work.

Alchemists once thought a key component in the creation of the stone was a mythical element named carmot.

The 8th-century Arab alchemist Jabir ibn Hayyan (Latinized as Geber) analyzed each classical element in terms of the four basic qualities of hotness, coldness, dryness, and moistness. Fire was both hot and dry, earth cold and dry, water cold and moist, and air hot and moist. He further theorized that every metal was a combination of these four principles, two of them interior and two exterior.

From this premise, it was reasoned that the transmutation of one metal into another could be affected by the rearrangement of its basic qualities.

This change would presumably be mediated by a substance, which came to be called al-iksir in Arabic (from which the Western term elixir is derived). It is often considered to exist as a dry red powder (also known as al-Kibrit al-Ahmar الكبريت الأحمر—red sulphur) made from a legendary stone—the philosopher's stone.

In the 11th century, there was a debate among Muslim chemists on whether the transmutation of substances was possible. A leading opponent was Avicenna (Ibn Sina), who discredited the theory of transmutation of substances.

Australian PM Wants Asia-Pacific Union

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Wednesday that he wants to see an Asia-Pacific Community by 2020 structured similar to the European Union. Rudd said there was a "brittleness" in bilateral ties, and that while regional bodies like ASEAN and APEC had achieved much, there was a need for a region-wide architecture to tackle the growing challenges of the Asia-Pacific century.

"Terrorism in Southeast Asia will remain a continuing challenge. Across wider continental Asia, the rise of India and China represent great economic, environmental, energy policy and security reverberations for the future," Rudd said in a speech to the Asia Society Australasia in Sydney.

"I believe it is time that we started to think about where we want to be with our regional architecture in 2020. We need to have a vision for an Asia-Pacific Community," he said, adding the world could learn from Europe where centuries of animosity had been transformed into trans-national cooperation.'

Putting People on a Pedestal

When we fall in love with someone or make a new friend, we sometimes see that person in a glowing light. Their good qualities dominate the foreground of our perception and their negative qualities. They just don’t seem to have any.

This temporary state of grace is commonly known as putting someone on a pedestal. Often times we put spiritual leaders and our gurus on pedestals. We have all done this to someone at one time or another, and as long as we remember that no one is actually “perfect,” the pedestal phase of a relationship can be enjoyed for what it is—a phase. It’s when we actually believe our own projection that troubles arise. Everyone has problems, flaws, and blind spots, just as we do.

When we entertain the illusion that someone is perfect, we don’t allow them room to be human, so when they make an error in judgment or act in contradiction to our idea of perfection, we become disillusioned. We may get angry or distance ourselves in response. In the end, they are not to blame for the fact that we idealized them. Granted, they may have enjoyed seeing themselves as perfect through our eyes, but we are the ones who chose to believe an illusion. If you go through this process enough times, you learn that no one is perfect. We are all a combination of divine and human qualities and we all struggle.

When we treat the people we love with this awareness, we actually allow for a much greater intimacy than when we held them aloft on an airy throne. The moment you see through your idealized projection is the moment you begin to see your loved one as he or she truly is. We cannot truly connect with a person when we idealize them.

In life, there are no pedestals—we are all walking on the same ground together. When we realize this, we can own our own divinity and our humanity. This is the key to balance and wholeness within ourselves and our relationships.

The Sumerian Gods

The Anunnaki King's List are sometimes depicted as humanoid. At other times they are bird-headed with wings. Often they are Reptilian in appearance especially when depicted as warriors. Sometimes they are shown as a combination of several types of entities. All is myth, math, and metaphor, so look for the clues in every set of gods you read about, as they all follow the same patterns that repeat in cycles or loops called Time. The patterns of their battles reflect reality as duality and are found within every pantheon of gods - the same characters playing different roles.

A Sumerian tablet shows Enmeduranki, a prince in Sippar, who was well loved by Anu, Enlil and Ea. Shamash, a priest in the Bright Temple, appointed him then took him to the assembly of the gods. They showed him how to observe oil on water and many other secrets of Anu, Enlil and Ea. Then they gave him the Divine Tablet, the kibdu secret of Heaven and Earth. They taught him how to make calculations with numbers."

The Sumerians never called the Anunnaki, 'gods.' They were called din.gir, a two-syllable word. 'Din' meant 'righteous, pure, bright;' 'gir' was a term used to describe a sharp-edged object. As an epithet for the Anunnaki 'dingir' meant 'righteous ones of the bright pointed objects.'

Sumerian texts break up history into two epochs divided by the Great Deluge - the Biblical Flood. After the waters receded the great Anunnaki who decree the fate decided that the gods were too lofty for mankind. The term used - 'elu' in Akkadian - means exactly that: 'Lofty Ones;' from it comes the Babylonian, Assyrian, Hebrew, and Ugaritic El - the term to which the Greeks gave the connotation 'god'.

After the sons of God took human wives there were giants in the Earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became the mighty men which were of old, men of renown. The Nefilim were upon the Earth, in those days and thereafter too, when the sons of the gods cohabitated with the daughters of the Adam, and they bore children unto them. They were the mighty ones of Eternity - the people of the shem.' Nefilim stems from the Semitic root NFL, 'to be cast down.'

The Sumerians believed in their gods and saw the intentions of their gods as good and powerful beings who controlled their world. The Sumerians explanation for their hardships and misfortunes were the result of human deeds that displeased the gods - in a word, sin. They believed that when someone displeased the gods, these gods let demons punish the offender with sickness, disease or environmental disasters.

The Sumerians experienced infrequent rains that sometimes created disastrous floods, and they believed that these floods were punishments created by a demon god that lived in the depths of the Gulf of Persia. And to explain the misfortunes and suffering of infants, the Sumerians believed that sin was inborn, that never was a child born without sin. Therefore, wrote a Sumerian, when one suffered it was best not to curse the gods but to glorify them, to appeal to them, and to wait patiently for their deliverance.

Signals from Air France jet's black box traced as 11 bodies are identified

Faint signals from flight recorders of the Air France jet which crashed with the loss of 228 lives have been heard deep below the Atlantic. The signals were picked up by the French Navy and a mini submarine is now headed towards the emission site. Black boxes from the doomed Airbus will hold the vital clues as to how the plane met its end on June 1st as it travelled from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.

French naval vessels picked up the ‘very weak’ signal using state-of-the-art search technology. It is not known whether the signal came from the flight's data recorder or the voice recorder. Locator beacons known as 'pingers' send an electronic signal every second for at least 30 days, and it can be heard up to 1.5 miles away.

French ships involved in the search operation include a nuclear submarine with advanced sonar equipment and a research ship equipped with the mini subs. All are methodically scanning the surface and depths of the Atlantic for signs of the plane, over a 50 mile search radius.

An Air France spokeswoman said she could not confirm the report. (Daily Mail)

Defining the 'Higher Self'

To help simplify matters, let's define the higher self. This can be a daunting and voluminous task due to its sublime nature. It is my intent to keep this as brief and clear as possible. Higher self is an integral and intimate aspect of ourselves that remains aware of (and actively interacts with) the whole of our being and our existence on the many planes or possibilities of life. One definition of the higher self can be: The part of ourselves that remains aware of our fragmented aspects and our wholeness simultaneously.

Connecting with and recognizing the higher self is a rather large subject and requires touching upon many areas within the subject in order to explore it with clarity. Whatever is written on this subject will never be enough to satisfy the human mind. The only time we feel true satisfaction is when we fully experience love and spirit for ourselves. Connecting with the higher self takes practice, refinement, dedication, and discipline. You will receive from this practice what you put into it. It is important to understand that there are no beings, planes, or dimensions outside of ourselves. All dimensions, beings, and planes of consciousness exists equally right here and now, within and around us. This requires that we as individuals open our senses sufficiently so we can participate with other beings, the higher self and/or with the other planes of reality. Sometimes experiencing another plane, dimension, or being can appear as though they are separate from us or that we have exited completely from this 3D plane and arrived at a totally different place.

A single drop of water is a good example of ourselves in our separated singularity or individuality. Many drops can co-exist in addition to the single drop. It is possible to create an infinite multitude of seemingly separate drops. This is similar to our 3D reality of separation. There are a multitude of individuals existing in their own individual forms. These individuals are seemingly separated from our own self. However, when you take the drop and add it to a pond, the drop will meld and integrate into the pond. In the pond, the drops are so integrated with each other (like we are in the unified field) that the drops comprise the entirety of the pond or the pond's unified field. Together we comprise the whole reality or medium. There are no parts of the pond (or unified field) that are not an aspect of us. Therefore, there are no planes, dimensions, or beings with which we are not intimately integrated.

In trying to understand a perspective of the higher self in comparison to our ego self, higher self would be like being at a conference in a large hotel auditorium that was partitioned into several smaller rooms. Our greater whole being would occupy the entire floor as well as all the partitioned rooms. Our 3D ego consciousness would only be aware of the one room in which we were focused. Higher self, in comparison, would be fully aware and participating within all the rooms on the floor simultaneously. The higher self would have a much greater vision of the whole of our being and the many rooms or planes upon which we exist.

The higher self is you. It wants to become whole and integrated. Therefore, it is bound to help you in every possible way that you are willing to accept. The higher self's foremost concern is for your highest good. That highest good is observed through the eyes and vantage point of a much more expanded and intimate awareness and an understanding of not only yourself but the current reality you have created for yourself within that partitioned room. The higher self naturally wants to help you evolve to be able to access the many partitioned rooms that comprise our total self. Eventually, the higher self will teach you to remove the partitions completely.
Higher self is highly motivated to communicate with us at the first available moment of clarity or mental inactivity. This may not require us to adhere to a step-by-step protocol to reaching higher self. Higher self wants to be able to communicate with us at every given instant but generally finds itself in a challenge with our 3D selves because of our insistence on creating a barrier of resistance to the higher self. This barrier of resistance is, quite frankly, our preoccupation with a myriad of distractions.
Higher self may use any number of methods or tools to communicate. Unfortunately, not every communiqué or subtle message received is from the higher self. This makes it even more of an appreciable task to try to identify, clarify, and refine these communications. (The origin of these other communiqués is a subject for a later discussion).

Higher self communicates in a subtle fashion in most cases and resorts to drastic forms of communication or even silence when there is no other choice. Many times we have used the gifts of our human potential without recognizing them and in so doing have taken them for granted. The voice of the higher self is one of those gifts we have taken for granted. It is our soft and subtle voice that comes to alert us to potential dangers or calmly helps us find our keys after we have madly searched the house. Higher self is also the voice of our higher reason and our creative inspiration. When we hear our own subtle voice of inspiration, it becomes our choice to listen and follow through with the message or deny it. Denying it usually produces the consequence of us regretting the outcome, knowing we could have altered it by taking the suggested prudent action.

Alchemy ...

Alchemy (Arabic:al-kimia) (Hebrew:אלכימיה al-himia) is both a philosophy and a practice with an aim of achieving ultimate wisdom as well as immortality, involving the improvement of the alchemist as well as the making of several substances described as possessing unusual properties. The practical aspect of alchemy generated the basics of modern inorganic chemistry, namely concerning procedures, equipment and the identification and use of many current substances.

The fundamental ideas of alchemy are said to have arisen in the ancient Persian Empire. Alchemy has been practiced in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Persia (today's Iran), India, China, Japan, and Korea in Classical Greece and Rome, in the Muslim civilizations, and then in Europe up to the 20th century—in a complex network of schools and philosophical systems spanning at least 2500 years.

Alchemy became known as the spagyric art after Greek words meaning to separate and to join together in the 16th century, the word probably being coined by Paracelsus. Compare this with one of the dictums of Alchemy in Latin: SOLVE ET COAGULA — Separate, and Join Together (or dissolve and coagulate).

The best-known goals of the alchemists were the transmutation of common metals into gold (called chrysopoeia) or silver (less well known is plant alchemy, or "spagyric"); the creation of a "panacea", or the elixir of life, a remedy that supposedly would cure all diseases and prolong life indefinitely; and the discovery of a universal solvent. Although these were not the only uses for the discipline, they were the ones most documented and well known. Certain Hermetic schools argue that the transmutation of lead into gold is analogical for the transmutation of the physical body (Saturn or lead) into Solar energy (gold) with the goal of attaining immortality.

This is described as Internal Alchemy. Starting with the Middle Ages, Arabic and European alchemists invested much effort in the search for the "philosopher's stone", a legendary substance that was believed to be an essential ingredient for either or both of those goals. Alchemists were alternately persecuted or supported through the centuries. For example in 1317 Pope John 22nd issued a Bull against alchemical counterfeiting, and the Cistercians banned the practice amongst their members. In 1403 Henry 4th of England banned the practice of Alchemy. In the late 14th century Piers the Ploughman and Chaucer both painted unflattering pictures of Alchemists as thieves and liars. By contrast, Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor, in the late 16th century, sponsored various alchemists in their work at his court in Prague.

It is supposed that Alchemists made mundane contributions to the "chemical" industries of the day—ore testing and refining, metalworking, production of gunpowder, ink, dyes, paints, cosmetics, leather tanning, ceramics, glass manufacture, preparation of extracts, liquors, and so on (it seems that the preparation of aqua vitae, the "water of life", was a fairly popular "experiment" among European alchemists). In reality, although Alchemists contributed distillation to Western Europe, they did little for any known industry. Goldsmiths knew long before Alchemists appeared how to tell what was good gold or fake, and industrial technology grew by the work of the artisans themselves, rather than any Alchemical helpers.

A Word on 'Turkey Medicine'

With a Turkey totem, you have transcended self. You act and react on behalf of others. This act is not a sense of moralism or guilt, but a deep knowledge that all life is sacred. What you do for others, you also do for yourself.

To have a Turkey totem is a true gift. Its gift may be spiritual, material or intellectual. Through giving to others will you reach your own goals. The Turkey is linked to the third eye, the seat of feminine energies within us, and the center for higher vision.

Turkey is also the symbol of the Mother Earth and her abundant harvest. All of Earth's blessings and the ability to use them to their greatest advantage are part of Turkey's teachings.

Different Ways of Navigating

We’re all in the same boat. We just have different paddles, and perhaps we find ourselves on different rivers. We all live in human bodies. These are the vehicles in which we move through our world. We are all made of flesh, blood, and bone, with brains, hearts, and lungs to power us. Our paddles—the tools we use to move through the world—vary, as do the bodies of water—the environments—in which we find ourselves.

Some of us use our high IQs to get where we want to go. Some of use our smiles, others use kindness, a gift with language, or athletic ability. Some of these qualities we were born with and others are skills we have learned.

Considering this metaphor in light of your own life can be very enlightening. What tools are you using to get from point A to point B in your life? Chances are, you and the people you know have used many different tools in various combinations throughout your lives to get where you needed to go. Just as with oars or paddles, a balanced approach is best. If you rely too much on one thing, like beauty, to open doors, you fail to be well-rounded and you may eventually lose your equilibrium. And if you lose that one quality, you have no paddle at all.

This is inspiration to develop multiple tools to navigate your world. Some of us may be moving along paths that are like rushing rivers; others may be on a large, still lake. We have all felt, at one time or another, tossed about on a stormy ocean. Through all this, we are never really alone, even though it might seem that way. There is inspiration all around us in the form of other people making their way through the world, in the very same boat. Remember to look around you for role models, companionship, and encouragement.

Divine Ennead - Heliopolitan Origin Myth

According to the Heliopolitan Tradition, the world began as a watery chaos called Nun, from which the sun-god Atum (later to identified with Re) emerged on a mound. By his own power he engendered the twin deities Shu (air) and Tefnut (moisture), who in turn bore Geb (earth) and Nut (sky). Geb and Nut finally produced Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nephthys. The nine gods so created formed the divine ennead (i.e. company of nine) which in later texts was often regarded as a single divine entity. From this system derived the commonly accepted conception of the universe represented as a figure of the air-god Shu standing and supporting with his hands the out-stretched body of the sky-goddess Nut, with Geb the earth-god lying at his feet. The "Multi or Rare" Earth Debate: Are We the Sole Intelligent Life in the Milky Way?

The "Rare Earth" hypothesis is the idea that life is a staggeringly unlikely event, and that the reason we haven't seen hide nor hair (nor scale nor weird gel-layer) of aliens is that there aren't any. It's had some time in the spotlight, it makes us sound very important, and it's wrong.

The Rare Earth argument ignores a number of essential factors, the first being how staggeringly huge the numbers involved are. Even the Milky Way has 200 to 400 billion stars, and it's only one of a hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe, and there have been billions of years for things to happen. Countering "it's really unlikely" with "but there are lots of things!" might sound weak, but it's the Rare Earthers who are taking the burden of proof - claiming that nothing happens anywhere else ever. The more places there are, the worse their argument gets.

Geologist Peter Ward and astrobiologist Donald Brownlee, both of the University of Washington have outlined a short list of conditions needed: Right distance from a star; habitat for complex life; liquid water near surface; far enough to avoid tidal lock; right mass of star with long enough lifetime and not too much ultraviolet; stable planetary orbits; right planet mass to maintain atmosphere and ocean with a solid molten core and enough heat for plate tectonics; a Jupiter-like neighbor to clear out comets and asteroids; plate tectonics to build up land mass, enhance bio-diversity, and enable a magnetic field; not too much, nor too little ocean; a large moon at the right distance to stabilize tilt; a small Mars-like neighbor as possible source to seed Earth-like planet; maintenance of adequate temperature, composition and pressure for plants and animals; a galaxy with enough heavy elements, not too small, ellipitcal or irregular; right position the galaxy; few giant impacts like had 65 million years ago; enough carbon for life, but not enough for runaway greenhouse effect; evolution of oxygen and photosynthesis; and, of course, biological evolution.

Claims that there aren't many suitable planets over all these stars are like hiding in a closet and claiming there's no such thing as coffee tables - we're now detecting planets at an ever-increasing rate, because now we have technology actually capable of detecting planets. Almost as soon as we try any new planet-detecting technique it detects a whole bunch of the things. We're even edging into the ability to find Earth-size planets, and what do you know? There they are! And some even have water!

Swine Flu Propaganda: Half the Population Could be Affected

Primary care trusts are to set up anti-viral drug distribution centres and swine flu testing clinics amid fears that the infection could spread out of control. The Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, wrote to health authorities last week urging hospitals to test all patients who show signs of flu-like symptoms. He wrote: "Transmission from person to person in this country is increasingly common. There is evidence that sporadic cases are arising with no apparent link either to cases elsewhere in the UK or to travel abroad."

A Word on 'Kennaz'

The rune Kennaz represents the flaming torch within the royal hill, the time of the creative fire - the forge where natural materials are transmuted by the actions of the human will into a mystical third, an artefact that could not otherwise come into being.

One basic meaning of "Kennaz" is torch or knowledge. This meaning is the one presented in the Old English Rune Poem. Another name for this rune, "Kaunaz," means a sore or boil. This is the meaning of the rune in the Old Norwegian Rune Rhyme and the Old Icelandic Rune Poem.

The magickal and divinatory meanings of this rune include a torch (source of light), knowledge (of the outer, intellectual kind, as opposed to the inner knowledge embodied in Ansuz), guidance, a beacon, a lighthouse, learning, skills and talents, education, revelation, exploration, and discovery.

Torches are still familiar today, although not the items of everyday use they once were. Torchlight processions were once common. Since torches provide light, and represent fire under human control, they are a good symbol of knowledge and enlightenment.

Unlike the sun's fire, "domesticated" fire must be tended to prevent it from dying out. With skills and knowledge, as with many other things, the rule is "use it or lose it". Light is also a symbol of hope. We speak of hope "flickering," and of "the light at the end of the (dark) tunnel."

Kennaz ties in with the bonfires of Beltane (May Day) and Midsummer's Day. These were maintained over most of Europe even after the imposition of Christianity. Hope also bears within it the promise of fulfilment. The lantern held by the Hermit of the Tarot deck ties in with Kennaz.

Working with a Shaman

Since time immemorial, certain men and women have felt called to heal the sick, to safeguard knowledge, to guide the lost, and to commune with the spirit world.

These unique individuals, known as shamans, were mystics and seers, repositories of wisdom, and keepers of herbal lore. During those periods when ignorance loomed large in the world, shamans across the globe bided their time, peacefully practicing their practical yet refined arts in the jungle, mountains, deserts, and tundra that protected them from those who misunderstood shamanism.

Today, however, shamanism has reemerged, as modern men and women feel the same call to service that their ancestors felt long ago. The word shaman literally means "he or she who knows." Shamanism is an art that has not changed in any quantifiable way for millennia and is not bound to any particular form of spirituality. It is grounded on the principle that the visible world is saturated with unseen forces that influence the lives of human beings. Shamans, in addition to acting as fonts of wisdom, are dedicated to diagnosing and curing human suffering—whether emotional, physical, or spiritual.

To treat an illness, a shaman may communicate with the spirit world in order to connect more directly with the soul of their patient or with the force causing ill health. They often work closely with animal guides, plant and earth spirits, or your spirit guides, and may make use of use of herbal remedies to supplement other forms of treatment. Shamans, as intermediaries between the physical and spiritual realms, recognize that all objects are in manner alive and retain information that can be utilized to heal. Shamanism is powerful in part because its practitioners tailor healing to the individual needs of those who seek them out.

A shaman manipulates energy, giving you power where you have lost it and removing misplaced energy lurking within you. When you seek out a shaman, they will endeavor to know and understand you before treating you. In this way, they can provide you with therapies that act on your whole being, positively influencing your body as well as your soul.

A Word on "E.S.P"

ESP is most commonly called the "sixth sense." It is sensory information that an individual receives which comes beyond the ordinary five senses sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. It can provide the individual with information of the present, past, and future; as it seems to originate in a second, or alternate reality.

The term "ESP" was used in 1870 by Sir Richard Burton. A French researcher, Dr. Paul Joire, in 1892 used the term ESP to describe the ability of person who had been hypnotized or were in a trance state to externally sense things without using their ordinary senses.However, the phenomena of ESP activity has been indicated much earlier, some say even in Biblical times. Although there is no clear evidence as to the certainty of the phenomena it has attracted the attention and enthusiasm of many throughout the centuries.In the 1920's a Munich ophthalmologist, Dr. Rudolph Tischner, used ESP in describing the "externalization of sensibility." Then in the 1930s the American parapsychologist J. B. Rhine popularized the term to include psychic phenomena similar to sensory functions. Rhine was among the first parapsychologists to test ESP phenomena in the laboratory. The first systematic study of ESP was conducted in 1882, when the Society for Psychical Research was founded n London. The journals of this society Proceedings and Journal were published as well as other publications in the United States and the Netherlands. Soon other countries were reporting similar findings. However, these first studies of ESP were rarely experimental. The studies consisted of mostly spontaneous incidents that were located. Many of the individuals studied were self-claimed "sensitives" or psychics. Rarely were they examined under anything resembling laboratory conditions. The researchers conducting the examinations resembled prosecuting lawyers. The subjects were bombarded with questions, those standing up the best were judged creditable.

The first card-guessing ESP experiments were conducted by Rhine at Duke University in 1930. The cards consisted of five designs, now called ESP symbols, a square, a circle, a plus sign, a five pointed star, and a set of three wavy lines. The symbols were printed singly, in black ink, on cards resembling playing cards.In the classic Rhine experiments on ESP, the subject tries to guess or "call" the order of the five symbols when they are randomly arranged in a deck of 25 ESP cards. The likelihood of calling a card correctly by chance is one in five. Therefore, it is possible to calculate how often a particular score is likely to occur by chance in a given number of calls. It was Rhine'' argument that when his subjects made high scores that could be expected by chance only once in a thousand tries, or once in a million, they displayed "extrachance" results, or ESP.

"Forcing A Hand"

Ten scientists had been taken hostage, by the group that called themselves “The Canine Avengers”, two of which had been executed as examples to prove that the group meant business.

Two days of negotiations that had fallen through passed before a U.S army special unit was despatched to regain control of the establishment building. Live Cable TV had relayed the assault throughout the world. Shocked public eyes had watched as the protestors were shot down in cold blood. There had been no survivors. Once the establishment had been secured, a speech from The President Of The United States Of America soon followed thereafter, condoning acts of terrorism, also fully justifying the deaths of the group members, which he deemed as being a deterrent against further acts.

In truth, the operation had been a cover up. The so called terrorists had been a group of Death Rowers who had been assigned the task of playing terrorists. They had been given no choice in the matter; refusal would have resulted in a longer wait for the inevitable lethal injection. The group had been appropriately dressed in tee shirts bearing the fictitious anti-vivisectionists logos; they had also been armed with firearms and told to cause as much hell as possible, which they had done with much enthusiasm.

After they had followed out their instructions to the letter, they had been butchered to death by an army unit who’s instructions had been to leave no witness alive; though the true agenda had been kept from them. The army unit had followed out their instructions perfectly.

Once the bodies had been removed, and the area cordoned off for forensic investigation, The Elite Order took over. Five of their members, who were respected C.I.A officials were drafted in to investigate.

Out of sight of the public and the army, they began working on breaking down the force field. Via a computer link up to hi-tech laser equipment, they had been surprised to discover a drain in the force field energies at one point in its barrier. Thus, they had concentrated the laser's power on that point and soon had access through the force field. Two of their members were about to enter the lift, which would have taken them into the lower sections of The Fortress, when the alien had appeared.

Agents Bryant and Web had been making their way back to the communications room on level 2, when rounding a corner in the corridor, they had come upon The Being. Initial fear and unease had soon given way to genuine welcome, when the alien had appeared friendly. With telepathic voice it had explained to them its common interest, and its solution it needed to discuss with them. Thus, it had followed them to the mission leader C.I.A Team Commander, Special Agent Hank Judosky. UK swine flu toll hits 2,244 with 247 new cases confirmed today

The number of UK cases of swine flu broke through the 2,000 mark today with another 247 people confirmed with the virus, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) said.

A total of 2,244 people have now been diagnosed with the virus since April. The latest cases were all in England, the HPA said.

The bulk of the new cases were in the West Midlands, where 112 people were confirmed with the virus today. There were 77 new cases in London, 18 in the South East, 17 in the South West, eight in the North West, seven in the east Midlands, five in Yorkshire and Humber, two in the Eastern region and one in the North East.

The new cases bring the total in England to 1,678 since April. (Daily Mail)

'Healthy people should be able to take the anti-hyperactivity drug Ritalin to boost brain power, a UK ethicist says. Bioethics expert Professor John Harris, of the University of Manchester, said if the drug was safe for children, adults should also be able to take it.

Writing on the British Medical Journal website, he said many students were already using the drug - which is illegal without prescription in the UK. A US expert said there were too many risks for it to be more widely used.'

Sumerian Flood Myth

In the eleventh tablet of the Semitic Babylonian epic of Gilagamesh is a flood story that is the source for the Noah story. The Gods resolved to cleanse the earth of an overpopulated humanity, but Utnapishtim was warned by the God Ea in a dream.

He and some craftsmen built a huge (seven decks encompassing one acre in area) ark. Utnapishtim then loaded it with his family, the craftsmen, and "the seed of all living creatures." The waters rose up, and a storm continued for six days and six nights.

The Gods repented and wept upon seeing the global destruction of living beings and stilled the flood on the seventh day. The waters covered everything but the top of the mountain Nisur, where the boat landed. A dove was loosed, but it returned, having found no place to rest.

Air France crash families get first compensation as investigators continue to sift wreckage for clues

Air France have offered the first advance on compensation to families of victims from doomed Flight 447, while investigators worked quietly to solve the mystery of what brought the jet down.

The top European air safety agency said there was not yet enough evidence to issue a mandatory recall of an external air speed monitor suspected of contributing to the disaster.

Air France chief executive Phillipe Gourgeon told RTL radio that the airline plans to make an advance of about £14,500 for each of the 228 victims, with no strings attached. He said it is also may hold a memorial for all the victims of the May 31 crash, Gourgeon said.

Some relatives of French victims have accused Air France of a lack of sympathy and of failing to keep them informed about the crash investigation.

But Gourgeon said the airline has had trouble even reaching some relatives of victims, who came from 32 countries.

He said that sometimes the only contact number for a victim is from a mobile phone that was lost in the crash. (Daily Mail)

A Word on 'Chokmah"

Chokmah is the point where the pure unity splits into two so a first manifestion of the pure idea is achieved. It creates a viewpoint, an energy, a first concept of the universal nothingness that is represented by Kether.

It is a very raw power, uneffected by analysis and specification, and thus so strong and effective. Chokmah is the idea of masculinity, as opposed to the femininity in Binah and the androgyny of Kether.

It is the Supernal Father and therefore not only corresponds to the Deuces but also to the Knights of the Thoth Tarot (Kings in other decks). As the first distinguishable expression of the energy emanating from Kether Chokmah embodies the pure essence of the substance. As the Number Two it represents the balance and interaction of opposites which is present throughout the Tree and originates in the opposition of Chokmah and Binah, the latter being the Supernal Mother. It is not an opposition of fixed entities, rather fluid polarities like waxing and waning, growing and shrinking, building up and tearing down.
