Just over a thousand years ago, the massacre of a group of peaceful people on Ynys Wydryn is long forgotten. The current land bears no resemblance to how it once was. A rocky outcrop surrounded by a lake - The Isle Of Glass also known in legends as The Isle Of Avalon.
Sadly, these harmless and gentle folk were target of scaremongering and incitement. So much so villagers from surrounding areas, who'd lived with the strange tales around the isle for hundreds of years prior to the massacre, were fed lies to harness their fear to such a degree they were the ones responsible for the grisly murders that night.
The perpetrators of the incitement - the local clergy of the time - had everything to gain by ridding the land of these 'satan worshippers'. The harmless folk who were on the receiving end of the churches wrath, were practitioners of the ancient arts of the land that had been so for hundreds; if not thousands of years prior to the church's pillage and destruction of the lands of Albion.
Ynys Wydryn was a special place, once, the rocky outcrop we know as The Tor in modern times, is a hollow hill with reputed wonders below ground. After the massacre of Ynys Wydryn, the church took possession of The Isle and reputedly destroyed all the artifacts and wonders that were kept for safe keeping on The Isle. They plundered the technology that ancient beings has bestowed on the custodians of Avalon. Then to rub salt in the wounds, they built St Micheal's Tower on the tor as a arrogant symbol of their seizure of such a prized pagan site.
However, the magic and the power of the isle could not be destroyed, despite the church's best efforts. Its secrets may well be long destroyed, but its truths are written into oral legend and myth by those who are descendants of those massacred that night.

The Spaces Between Us: The unconscious rules of personal space
S.O.T.T: Everyone has a personal space, an instinctive protective zone. We're always jostling to maintain our own space and to navigate around others', and the honeycomb of abutting spaces forms the scaffold of our social world. Violating it as a means of social communication, a means of bullying, is common behavior.
But we usually don't do it in a calculated way. The rules of personal space run deep under the surface of consciousness. We act and react in an elaborate, animal dance, and only extreme examples-like the Trump handshake-catch our conscious attention.
The instinctive dance of personal space was first studied scientifically by a zoo curator, Heini Hediger, who directed the Zürich Zoo in the 1950s. Zoo animals tend to be comfortable only if their cages are properly shaped and sized to form a protective territory. But when studying animals in the wild, Hediger noticed a second kind of territory, a smaller, portable bubble of space attached to the body. He called it an escape distance, or a flight zone...read more>>>....

The Five Pillars of Intuition
Waking Times: Intuition is as natural as breathing, sleeping or eating. All of us have intuition. Some of us are more open to this capacity, and connection to higher information, than others, but we can all deepen and develop our intuition with a few simple techniques and daily rituals.
Intuition is the spark, or gateway, to higher knowing and to living a fulfilled, flowing, effortless and peaceful life. Each day we are bombarded by an avalanche of information, demands and pressures, that squash our vastness into a tiny reality. This data smog and information overload swamps our intuition. Now more than ever, we need this innate capacity to guide us. The more lost we are in the pace of modern life, the more we need this anchor....read more>>...

When Life Throws You a Curveball
Daily Om: In life, we are always setting goals for ourselves and working to make them happen. This gives us focus and ensures that we use our time and energy efficiently and effectively. It also provides us with a sense of purpose and direction. We know where we are going and what we want to do. But quite often, due to forces outside our control, things do not go as we had planned--the flat tire on the way to the wedding, the unforeseen flu virus--and we have to adjust to a postponement or create a whole new set of circumstances.
Even positive turns of fortune -- an unexpected influx of cash or falling in love -- require us to be flexible and to reconsider our plans and priorities, sometimes in the blink of an eye. This is what happens when life throws you a curveball.
The ability to accept what is happening and let go of your original expectations is key when dealing with these unexpected turns of fate. We have a tendency to get stuck in our heads, clinging to an idea of how we think life should go, and we can have a hard time accepting anything that doesn't comply with that idea. The fact is that life is unpredictable...read more>>>...

'Today's Avalon Sojourn'
So yes, it was good to be back. My only complaint - I didn't have enough time to relax and to contemplate. It was a whistle stop tour. I wandered to the summit of The Tor (As I always do).
It was sad to share the summit terrace with so many people; including a chanting choir, which spoiled the experience for me.
I managed to find old, forgotten, vantage points to take digital images. Last time at these vantage points, it was an OM10 camera with film, and a limited budget didn't permit a freeflow of photos being developed. That was then, this is now .... and an array of Tor images now adorn my hard drive, put in the Photograph Catalogue file 'Glastonbury' along with the digital images from 2 years ago.
What was pleasing was the fact the the White Spring pool etc was open today. I was able to head in and wash myself in the white water spring (Calcium rich). Last time I ventured to the White Water Spring building was in the late 90's and it was a cafe. It was one of the locations where strange things happened to me. Today it was awesome to get into dark crypt which houses the white water pool ... sadly no photography was allowed.
I even had time to wander through the Chalice Well Garden; collect some red spring water (Iron rich) and capture a number of images of the Chalice Well itself. When I first arrived, a rather strange lady was undertaking some dousing/energy testing of the well, and I was unable to capture any satisfactory images of the well. I persisted and managed a few satisfactory images.
I sit now, in my sacred space, with a Llewellyn track 'Heart Chakra' playing through my headphones; its now 'The Rabbit and The Moon' by Runestone. I am immersed in heavy incense smoke ... 'Green Man' purchased from Starchild in The Glastonbury Experience. A traditional purchase for me are the awesome Starchild incense blends.
I wasn't anticipating the profound or the inexplicable in Glastonbury today, as there was too many people, and I have a different headspace to the 1990's when it was all happening to me. There was one developing synchronicity on The Tor; similar minded people were standing there with me. I didn't have time to converse with them (A gentleman with a camera who followed me up The Tor and was taking the same shots as me; was one) ... so I didn't let that profound connection form. Maybe next time ...
I have however to let me mind successfully transcend time; work on the familiar within me and let the Avalonian Energy change my current perceptions. Its a big ask. But all I can do is give it a go ....

Unraveling the Nature and Identity of the Green Man
[Ancient Origins]:An enigma spanning thousands of years, the Green Man is a symbol of mysterious origin and history. Permeating various religious faiths and cultures, the Green Man has survived countless transformations and cultural diversities, enduring in the same relative physical form to this day. Although specifics about his beginnings and his worship are not fully known, due in large part to how far back and to what initial cultures he can be traced to, it is a testament to the widespread reach of his character that he is still remembered and worshipped to this day.
The Green Man is most highly believed to have begun as a pre-Christian entity, a spirit of nature personified as a man. His earliest images have been dated long before the coming of the Christian religion, depictions dating back before the days of the Roman Empire. However, it is with the coming of the empire that his images are noted as spanning religions, as he has been found both within the empire and at its borders, and then similar versions in other far reaching cultures such as India. Despite the range in locations of artifacts of the Green Man, he is most often associated with the society of the Celts, sequestered particularly in today's Britain and France, because of the high number of images found in these regions and the stylized way in which he has been portrayed....read more>>>...

Creating Space in the Body
Daily Om: Our minds and bodies are interconnected, and the condition of one affects the condition of the other. This is why meditation is such a powerful tool for healing the body, as powerful as physical therapies. When our minds are cluttered with thoughts, information, and plans, our bodies respond by trying to take action.
When the body has a clear directive from the mind, it knows what to do, but a cluttered, unfocused mind creates a confused, tense body. Our muscles tighten up, our breath shortens, and we find ourselves feeling constricted without necessarily knowing why.
When we sit down to meditate, we let our bodies know that it is okay to be still and rest. This is a clear directive from the mind, and the body knows exactly how to respond. Thus, at the very beginning, we have created a sense of clarity for the body and the mind...read more>>>...

'Feeling An Old Excitement Return'
Well, its an early morning alarm tomorrow morning (In less than 5 hours time!). I can't keep putting it off, as its now over 2 years since I last made it back to my favourite place in the entire universe. I've planned the journey for the last few months; was going down last May holiday but didn't.
Anyway, the trip cannot be put off any longer. In terms of time, not distance, its not much further than the trips we used to make from Canberra to Sydney.
A journey of just under four hours and I can cast my eyes on The Tor again! I admit I have my reservations, part of my can't be bothered with an 8 hour round trip, for perhaps 3 - 4 hours in the hustle and bustle of the town's streets, shops and Tor.
It's guaranteed to be literally heaving with people - day trippers, tourists etc - from all over the world. Any hope of photographs of The Tor devoid of people, will be around 0%!!! Even at 10.30am in the morning, which is the planned E.T.A at the summit tomorrow morning, there will be people on The Tor.

Once I'm on my way, I know the excitement will build, that old passion for somewhere I know so very well, and missed so very dearly between 2002 and 2016, a long time away from somewhere I nearly made home; somewhere I know played an important part of my spirit's past.
I've visited Glastonbury dozens of times in the past, and have had some very profound and strange experiences there. Being at the right place at the right time, I've met with significant people in my life. I've experienced strange lights in the sky and I've been haunted by powerful supernatural presences. I've had visitations, and lost time, when I've stayed in the town. I'm very much still under the enchantment of real Glastonbury (Caer Wydr and Glastonia). I'm deeply rooted in the mysteries and hidden truths of the Isle Of Avalon. I regularly have inner visions of The Tor, minus the tower, surrounded by the lake ... and it is real, not imagination.
I'm feeling the old excitement returning fast. It is exhilarating and powerful. It is magic. It is alchemy and I'm not going to prevent its awakening. It is just what I need in my life at this time - Matthew James

May we take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who have kept A Light In The Darkness as popular as ever.
Our page views for May 2018, so far, peaked at 26,483 page views on 9th May 2018. That is very encouraging. It confirms that we still have the right formula ....
We endeavour to post what we think everyone else will read. It's a little bit like decorating and furnishing a house, but its not for yourself, as its a house being rented or sold on ... you want to add a personal touch, that you would like if you lived in the house, but you can't because it might not be to the taste of the next occupant. What we see as readable. might not be readable to the watching eyes. So its a bit of an experiment each time we post ...
We may well begin adding the occasional, more traditional, 'in the first person' blog post ... just to see what the response is .... watch this space

Life is all about living
Life
is all about 'living' .... 'Learning. Inspiring. Validating.
Imaginative. Negotiating. Grounding' ..... How many see life in the same
way?
Learning? Inspiring? Validating? Imaginative? Negotiating and Grounding?
How many of us actually live? Or are we all trapped in survival cycles? Just existing without being consciously aware that its the thought pattern choices we make now that shape the physical life we have in say 6 months time?
If you are trapped in a repeating cycle now .... look back 6 months and think back to what was going through your mind then .... if you want to improve your life in 6 months time, force yourself to think different now.

Is it possible that Odin actually existed?
If one looks at early-Medieval Scandinavian literature, we find many examples of old genealogies that mention various Gods, including Óðinn, as being the ancestor of one or more noble families.
Then, if we go back even further, to the 1st century B.C, the Roman author Tacitus also mentions that some Germanic tribes thought of themselves as the direct descendants of some older Deity.
As for the historical truth, well, Thor Heyerdahl who was a Norwegian archeologist believed that Óðinn was an actual human king who migrated to Scandinavia in the Iron Age
Not in the material world as the figure described in mythology. It is pretty difficult for people to actually shapeshift or travel to other worlds these days, except in the realm of non-physical reality.
Snorri Sturlason is the Icelandic warrior, poet, and politician who wrote down the most comprehensive account of Norse mythology called The Younger Edda. In his preface he states that Odin was an ancient king who led his people to settle in Scandinavia, and he probably believed that. During the transition between Paganism and Christianity many lovers of traditional lore said that the ancient gods were really once humans, generally saying they were magical people. (This process is called Euhemerism, after the Greek Euhemeris who popularized it in his ancient time.)
Since some myths and legends have been proven to have a kernel of historical truth to them, it opens the possibility that Odin actually existed. But we have no actual proof of that—just myths—so you will have decide what level of truth is acceptable to you...read more>>>...

Large clinical trials suggest that high blood glucose can be an effect rather than the cause of type-2 diabetes
Natural News: High blood glucose was long believed to lead to type 2 diabetes, but new research shows this could actually be an effect of the illness rather than its cause.
Type 2 diabetes usually sets in as people get older and can cause serious health complications like circulation problems, a higher risk of stroke and heart disease, and damage to the kidneys, nerves and eyes. The Rune Raidho
The Rune Raidho (Raido, Rad) signifies 'the wheel', 'the vehicle'; the 'journey'. It can be a rune of ceremonies, order, values and ethics.
With Raidho, a subtle magic is at work, life being a journey under the hidden intentions of the fates. Raidho indicates the journey through life, wherever it may be taking you. A journey with progress being made.
As the vehicle, Raidho indicates a power released, and the journey towards the destination that power will manifest. Human beings have little, or no say, in the big picture of their journeys ... Raidho often signifies the workings of an old god at work.

Seeing Ourselves
Daily Om:Many of us do not take the time to notice and acknowledge how beautiful we are as humans. We may be great lovers of beauty, seeing it in the people, places, and things around us, while completely missing it in ourselves. Some of us feel that it is vain to consider our appearance too much, or we may find that when we look at ourselves, all we see are imperfections. Often we come to the mirror with expectations and preconceived notions about beauty that blind us from seeing ourselves clearly.
As a result, we miss the beauty that is closest to us, the beauty we are. Sometimes we see our beauty in a shallow way, noticing how well we are conforming to social norms, but failing to see the deeper beauty that shines out from within and that will continue to shine regardless of how we measure up to society's ideal.
If we can cut through all these obstacles and simply appreciate how beautiful we are, we free up so much energy. We also become less dependent upon the opinions and feedback of others since we become our own greatest admirers. Many of us know that after a great yoga practice or a long, deep meditation, we are more able to see how beautiful we are....read more>>>....

The Rune Ansuz
Ansuz (Ansur) literally means "A God" - the Allfather Odin. 'The breath of life'.
Ansuz refers to a personal ancestry that tracks back to the old gods. A rune of analysis, wisdom, inspiration.
As Ansur it has been linked to 'Ash' ... the tree of learning and being taught a trade or a skill. It is a rune of new opportunities and options (The breath of life)
