The statement also paid tribute to the "immense contribution [Mourinho] has made to the club and to English football."A sizeable gathering of Chelsea supporters held an organised demonstration this evening at the club's ground, Stamford Bridge, in south west London behind a banner which read: "Jose Mourinho - Simply The Best." Waving club flags and wearing T-shirts showing his face they sang "bring back the special one" and chanted Mourinho's name.
Earlier, the club announced the joint-team of Director of football Avram Grant and assistant manager Steve Clarke as the men to take charge of the team after Mourinho left the club by "mutual consent". A statement was made on the club's website but it did not say whether the positions were permanent.
