Caitlin Matthews has been working within the Celtic tradition for over 30 years. In the Celtic Wisdom Tarot, she combines Celtic stories, myths and spiritual practices with the tarot. The major arcana contains the wisdom cards with new names for each card's function within the Celtic world view.
The High Priestess is called the Guardian. Each wisdom card also shows one of the trees associated with the Celtic ogham tree alphabet.
The minor arcana contains the story cards showing scenes from Celtic tales. The four suits are battle (swords), skill (wands), art (cups) and knowledge (pentacles) - the most important daily activities of the Celts. Each suit also represents a season and direction. In the minor arcana, each number corresponds to one of the story-telling genres of Celtic seanachies (storytellers). The "three" cards of each suit present courtship stories. The "tens" are quest stories.
The instruction book describes these stories and the "soul-wisdom" associated with each card.
