Jonathan Engler, a British healthcare entrepreneur, has highlighted a
national pandemic response exercise due to be held this Autumn.
In
response to a report from the UK Covid Inquiry, “Ministers have also
set out plans to better support vulnerable groups – such as the elderly
or those receiving care – and train thousands of public servants to
handle a range of crises, including pandemics,” a UK government press
release about the exercise states.
What caught Engler’s eye in
particular was the announcement of a Risk Vulnerability Tool created by
the Cabinet Office in collaboration with the Office for National
Statistics. By creating a map, the tool is designed to help departments visualise where vulnerable groups of people are located within the UK.
The
tool aims to improve understanding of where to find disproportionately
impacted groups ahead of and during crises and enable local “targeted
support” where it is needed.
