McCanns 'could be prosecuted' for leaving their children alone

Sunday MAIL headline; says: 'Gerry and Kate McCann could face more difficult questions about the night their daughter Madeleine disappeared - and this time they will be put on the spot about leaving their three children alone in the holiday apartment. The Crown Prosecution Service are "discussing" whether any offence was committed by the parents when they left the toddler and her twin brother and sister in the apartment at the resort at Praia da Luz on May 3.

And there is a bid in Portugal to get the couple jailed for neglect, the Sunday Express has reported. The campaign is being fuelled by activity on internet chatrooms and in the Portugese press. CPS lawyers are believed to have responded to complaints to British police calling for the couple to be arrested.

They had been dining at a tapas restaurant with friends on the night Madeleine disappeared and were taking turns to leave the table to check on their children.

The Sunday Express said the couple have been "outraged" by the complaints and have taken legal advice "in case the CPS decides to prosecute". Any offence would fall within the 1933 Young Persons Act which deals with ill-treatment, cruelty, neglect and abandonment of children under 16.

The McCanns' spokeswoman, Justine McGuinness, said: "If they could turn back time there are things that they might have done differently, with the benefit of hindsight. But it is impossible to say whether, had there been an adult in the apartment at the time of the abduction, it would have stopped a predator."

VERY odd wording used by Justine McGuiness 'But it is impossible to say whether, had there been an adult in the apartment at the time of the abduction, it would have stopped a predator.'

Predator? Where has that come from? Who mentioned a predator ... and why would an adult not have stopped it? This sounds very peculiar ... a strange discord designed again for us all to think the worse. A predator is a hunter ...someone they want us to perhaps perceive as armed and dangerous perhaps? Someone so dangerous that it could not be stopped even if an adult was there .... maybe?? A clever word therefore this word 'predator' ... and very deliberate intention I would say. Frankly though it doesn't scare me ... as I sense the truth behind this fabrication was something very plain and simple.

A panther is a predator is it not(?)... I did mention a 'metaphorical' panther had one of the three suspects in its jaws recently!!! Is this therefore a deliberate titbit or a mistake ... is this leaked information? Or just a clever coin of phrase?

Remember this ... Three suspects shown here ... one with its head caught in the mouth of the panther; directly in the firing line of Mars; trapped in those searing flames ... three suspects to be wrongfully charged as guilty? I sense innocent without charge ... even with apparent well written substantial evidence? (Daily Merlin Monday 9th July 2007)
