Fear, time preference, and the distortion of human action

Periods of crisis reveal something unsettling about human behavior. Faced with uncertainty, individuals and institutions alike tend to accept measures that would otherwise be unthinkable. Restrictions on movement, suspension of rights, and centralized decision-making often emerge not gradually, but almost effortlessly, as if they were the natural response to danger.

This pattern is frequently interpreted as a political or institutional failure. But such an explanation remains incomplete. Crises do not merely alter policies, they alter the very structure of human action. Fear — when intensified and socially amplified — does not simply influence decisions, it reshapes the way individuals perceive options, evaluate trade-offs, and act over time.

Brightly lit for 24 hours, a resident doctor reportedly said that the Camp induced “mental atrophy and extreme loquacity” in its victims. A resident medical officer named Harold Dearden “dreamed up the regimes of starvation and of sleep and sensory deprivation.” The Camp was one of a number, including the MI19-run Combined Services Detailed Interrogation Centre, later renamed A19.

 According to an article on the website of ‘Radio Free Europe’, a nondescript modern 4-storey building on Savushkina Street, St. Petersburg, houses the innocuously titled ‘Internet Research Centre’.

Inside the building operate government controlled and tasked teams of professional ‘trolls’. Spread across approximately 40 rooms, the trolls prowl the Internet in 12 hour shifts, generating pro-Kremlin comments and ‘gaming’ Internet forums and online conversations.

St. Petersburg blogger Marat Burkhard recently came forward to describe the apparent covert activities in detail. Burkhard describes his co-workers as “politically illiterate young people” who must be briefed on current topics at the beginning of each shift and continually supervised.

At this point it would be pertinent to note the source of the article – Radio Free Europe – notoriously a CIA funded propaganda outlet for decades (now financed, more obtrusively, through the State Department and ‘private donors’). While only the congenitally naive would doubt the veracity of the article’s basic claims, what is (unsurprisingly) lacking is context. Whether financed and operated by Russia’s intelligence agency FSB, or some other shadowy enclave, it is estimated that the entire Russian security establishment currently operates with just one twentieth (1/20) of the US equivalent (not even including the UK and other close Western allies).

What that means, in a nutshell, is that for every Internet Research Centre in Russia, the CIA/NSA/GCHQ/private contractor nexus would be operating the equivalent of (at least) 20 such centres. Turn off the TV – Neuro-linguistic programming has been used against populations in many countries and the UK could be in the driver’s seat

 There is a famous example of Derren Brown using neuro-linguistic programming (“NLP”) to influence Simon Pegg’s selection of a gift. Brown is a well-known British illusionist, mentalist, hypnotherapist and author.

Based on the scenario – “Imagine instead of trying to work out what your complicated friend wants for her birthday, you could just go out, buy whatever you like and then convince her that’s what she wants, life would be much easier” – Brown demonstrates conversational hypnosis using techniques such as anchoring, visual cues, suggestion and replacement.

As a technology, NLP has an amazing track record for instigating fast and efficient change in individuals and groups. If you ask 10 people, you’ll get 10 different answers but when you get to the crux: NLP is a covert form of direct hypnosis. As with all things, NLP can be used for good or it can be used for bad. It depends on the intent of those using it. The nefarious use of NLP techniques, the dark side of NLP, can in all probability be used both for mind-control and brainwashing.

Hypnotherapists have been noticing blatant hypnosis and NLP techniques being used by the UK government and state-controlled / legacy media during the “pandemic”. Miss Anthropist 2.0 sums up these techniques in a twitter thread:

 A recent article from Science Alert discussed a new technology that can create “audible enclaves,” which are localised pockets of sound that can be directed to a specific listener.

Although the technology appears to use sounds that are captured by ears, it reminds us of technology that has been used to experiment on people for decades: voice-to-skull and the Voice of God.

Voice-to-skull is not the only technology that has been around for a long time, members of the public have also been experimented on with brain-computer interfaces for years.

The article described newly published research that introduces a technology that can create “audible enclaves,” which are localised pockets of sound that are isolated from their surroundings, allowing people to listen to music or have private conversations in public without disturbing others.

The technology uses self-bending ultrasound beams and a concept called non-linear acoustics to send sound to a specific listener. The technique uses two ultrasound beams at different frequencies that are completely silent on their own, but when they intersect in space, non-linear effects cause them to generate a new sound wave at an audible frequency that would be heard only in that specific region.

The technology has many potential applications, including enabling personalised audio in public spaces, such as museums and libraries, and creating quiet zones to improve focus in workplaces or reduce noise pollution in cities. It could also be used in cars, offices and military settings to provide localised speech zones for confidential conversations.

The Air Loom

 The Air Loom was a mind control device capable of remotely manipulating and influencing the thoughts of its intended victim. The device and descriptions of its workings emerge into the public consciousness in 1810, detailed in an obscure book authored/edited and published by John Haslam, a respected apothecary.

Haslam's book carefully describes the workings of the machine, and it quickly becomes clear that this was a weapon of war, and that many of these machines had been deployed in London, installed covertly in cellars and staffed by French revolutionaries, undercover Jacobin assassins, bent on using the Air Loom's power to force Britain into a disastrous war with Revolutionary France. Their intended victims were various key members of the British government (led by the then Prime Minister, William Pitt).

London had been infiltrated by groups of assassins who lurked in coffee houses and theatres, where their intended victims were 'primed' by being tricked into inhaling magnetic vapours that would make them susceptible to the Air Loom's powers.

The Air Loom was a piece of advanced technology, but in the early part of the industrial age advanced technology often meant enormous machinery, rather than the increasing minutarisation that characterises the 21st century. The Air Loom was enormous. The mechanism stood seven metres tall and occupied a footprint of nine square metres, and it was constructed from oak with machined brass fittings.

Haslam's book tells us that the Air Loom was surrounded by barrels that fed noxious gases through oiled leather pipes into the main body of the machine. The gases were derived from substances including 'gas from the horse's anus', 'seminal fluid', 'putrid human breath' and 'effluvia of dogs'.
