The Tropical Heatwave

Daily Express; says: 'The great British summer finally arrived yesterday...but there’s a sting in the tail. After weeks of monsoon conditions, crowds rushed to the beaches as the weather hotted up and forecasters promised a tropical heatwave. But just as we are heading outdoors, a rather less welcome aspect of the tropics is about to drive many people back inside. Mosquitoes are about to blight the long summer evenings in the garden, thriving in humid conditions created by high temperatures so soon after weeks of rain. Most of the country will enjoy hot sunshine this week, with temperatures rising to 79F (26C ) by the weekend. Baking sunshine and clear, largely rain-free skies are set to dominate much of August.

And long-range forecasts suggest that August 15 may be the day when the weather heats up even more.

Sancha Lancaster of the Met Office said yesterday: “It has been the wettest early summer ever, but it is not going to be a washout. If there is very little rain in August, it might skew the figures slightly and stop it becoming the wettest summer ever. People are finally going to be able to start leaving their umbrellas at home and bringing their suncream out instead.

The chances of further flooding are now fast receding with no heavy rain predicted for August.
