Common Cold May Trigger Positive COVID-19 Antibody Test
Molecular — Also known as a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test, this test detects whether genetic material of the virus is present in the sample collected from your throat or sputum (the back of your sinuses)
Antigen — This test, sometimes referred to as "rapid test," detects viral proteins
Antibody — Also known as a serology test, it detects the presence of antibodies in your blood
The first two, molecular and antigen, are so-called "viral tests" that detect active infections, whereas the antibody test will tell you if you've developed antibodies in response to a previous coronavirus infection. It typically takes your body one to three weeks after an infection clears to start making antibodies against the virus in question.
Each of these COVID-19 tests have their issues and controversies. The problem with antibody testing is that there are seven different coronaviruses known to cause respiratory illness in humans.2 Four of them cause symptoms associated with the common cold:

China destroyed evidence of initial coronavirus outbreak, scientist claims
The new information comes from Yuen Kwok-yung, an infectious disease expert at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Yuen was part of a team of experts, led by top Chinese respiratory specialist Zhong Nanshan, dispatched on a fact-finding mission to Wuhan, ground zero for the global pandemic, on January 19.
On Monday, July 27, Yuen revealed in an interview with the BBC that local Chinese authorities were not only slow to respond to the outbreak but that they had also destroyed physical evidence of the outbreak.

Walmart, major retailers go soft on mask-wearing policies, cites abuse from anti-mask customers
In a story run by the Daily Mail, while several retail chains had all required shoppers to wear masks if they wanted to shop at their brick-and-mortar locations, management at these stores has told employees to still serve people who defy mask mandates — out of concern for the employees’ safety.
This is in reference to a recent uptick in confrontations between anti-mask customers and retail chain employees, most of which involve customers hurling abuse at clerks and other store staff.
“Many retailers feel like they have to act since some governors haven’t,” Melissa Murdock, spokesperson for the Retail Industry Leaders Association, said.
According to Murdock, while the association has been lobbying state governors to require masks to be worn in all 50 states, the implementation of such policies will fall to individual stores at the moment.
Stuart Appelbaum, president of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, noted in an interview that mask-wearing regulations should be enforced similarly to store policies regarding shoes and shirts.
“Either security or management needs to tell people that they must wear a face mask in order to be served. It’s no different than wearing shoes or a shirt,” Applebaum said.

As the COVID-19 pandemic passed its six-month mark and the number of reported cases in some countries and states rose, the focus on a vaccine intensified, with numerous vaccine makers vying to be first with results.
That distinction came in mid-July, when the initial results from a clinical trial of a vaccine candidate developed by Moderna, sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, received a positive write-up in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM)8 and pleased Wall Street.9

First, as with all vaccines, adverse effects can and will sometimes occur. Even fiercely pro-vaccine advocates have expressed concerns about possible adverse effects of a hurried-up COVID-19 vaccine.
From Bill Gates to Merck CEO Kenneth Frazier, to rotavirus vaccine inventor Dr. Paul Offit — who once held the Merck-endowed chair in vaccinology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia — high-profile individuals are talking about it.
Offit expressed reservations about how fast the vaccine companies were pushing development of the vaccine, and warned of possible safety and efficacy problems that could occur from giving it to thousands of people "without a large safety and efficacy trial."
Frazier had similar concerns, with a more strongly-worded comment: "If you're going to use a vaccine on billions of people, you better know what that vaccine does." It is a reasonable assumption to make that there would be no other way with which we would begin the process of learning about another individual than to begin with a template that is most familiar to us: ourself. At that moment in time, we have an assortment of likes and dislikes that we know well.
Social dynamics, in their most simplistic form, appear to factor down to the communication and expression of our individual likes and dislikes, where we would energetically find resonance or sympathetic vibration when those likes and dislikes are equally reciprocated by another.
There are certainly complexities when these dispositions are expressed in various degrees of interest (one may like vanilla ice cream though it may not be their favorite), but beyond a certain threshold it appears that when resonance is achieved, a chemical response is produced and a harmonious moment in time is had between two communicating participants. In order to enforce compliance with potential vaccine mandates, the paper, entitled, “Ensuring Uptake of Vaccines against SARS-CoV-2,” states that “substantive penalties” need to be imposed, including loss of employment.
As opposed to fines or criminal penalties, suspension of employment is supposedly a “less coercive” way of achieving compliance, the paper contends, adding that “state mandates should not be structured as compulsory vaccination (absolute requirements): instead, noncompliance should incur a penalty.”
The paper takes additional aim at vaccine refusers, which are said to include more than half of all Americans. Its authors lament the fact that most Americans want nothing to do with a Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) jab, and are instead choosing to rely on their God-given immune systems to keep them healthy.
“As with social distancing orders, we can expect that the advent of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines will spark intense clashes of feeling about what people owe to one another in the fight against the pandemic,” the paper further reads.
“In contrast to earlier phases of the pandemic, though, we currently have some time on our side. Careful deliberation now about state vaccination policy can help ensure that we have a strategy when the breakthrough comes.”
