Mars cliffs are out of this world

This awe-inspiring picture of dusty mountain ranges have been beamed back from MARS. The cliffs - up to 4,000m high - are located in the eastern part of Echus Chasma, north of Valles Marineris - the planet's ‘Grand Canyon’; one of the largest 'water source regions' on Mars.

The image was taken by the High-Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board the European Space Agency's Mars Express (The Sun)
