The stated goal: to test whether these “biofortified” tomatoes can raise blood levels of vitamin D in just 21 days. But critics argue this is not a legitimate safety study—it’s a marketing exercise aimed at normalizing gene-edited foods, despite unknown long-term risks to human health and the environment.

A marketing experiment disguised as nutrition science: The UK’s ViTaL-D Study is testing gene-edited “vitamin D tomatoes” not for safety, but for short-term efficacy — to see if these modified tomatoes can raise blood vitamin D levels in 21 days. The trial overlooks potential long-term health impacts and serves more as a marketing tool to normalize gene-edited foods.

A flawed “solution” to vitamin D deficiency: These tomatoes don’t even contain vitamin D3, the biologically active “sunshine vitamin,” but a precursor that must be UVB-activated — a process that requires slicing the tomatoes into 1mm pieces before exposure. This makes them suitable only for processed foods like soup or juice, undermining claims of a natural health innovation.

 The concept of lab-grown meat, also known as “cultivated” or “cell-based” meat, is being marketed as a solution to various issues, including climate change and factory farming, but it is actually more similar to a science experiment than a food product, Renz said.

His article “breaks down the science and the law around this disgusting product and [ ] suggests that [we] should think twice before joining Bill Gates in celebrating this fake meat.”

Lab-grown meat is created using immortalised cell lines, which are cells that have been genetically modified to divide indefinitely, similar to cancer cells, by switching on the enzyme telomerase, which allows them to dodge ageing and grow endlessly.

These immortalised cells share certain traits with cancer cells, including non-stop growth, genetic chaos and energy overdrive, which raises concerns about the safety of consuming these cells, as they can become unstable and pile up weird changes that make them unpredictable.

The issue of lab-grown meat is not just a scientific one, but also a legal and regulatory one.

The legal status of lab-grown meat is also uncertain, as it does not meet the definition of “meat” under the Federal Meat Inspection Act, which defines meat as coming from the muscles of animals.  And the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act requires food to be safe and labelled correctly. 

Companies such as those backed by Bill Gates and regulatory bodies such as the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) and the United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) must consider the potential risks and consequences of producing and consuming these products.

Experimental biosynthetic food to replace natural food is happening, now!

 Last week Australian Kate Mason gave a presentation to the 100-year Biodynamic Conference in Sydney. She flashed document after document on the screen detailing the involvement of national and international government and corporate interests determined to alter the nature and content of our food supply.

During her presentation, Mason covered the synthetic biology and synthetic food landscape; the technologies, the tracking and tracing components, the patents and the health aspects.

Biosynthetic food products are being falsely promoted as more nutritious than organic food. None of this is backed by sound science. No biosynthetic foods have been proven to be healthy or safe.

Genetic modification of plant root systems to enhance carbon storage.

Synthetic meat such as lab-grown quail whose genes are forced to multiply using unspecified genetic promoters in a medium of barley containing pig genes. The synthetic quail also contains biosynthetic vitamins and added minerals to “enhance” or rather “correct” its deficient nutritional profile. This is about to be released in Australia and described as free of genetically modified organisms, or GMO-free.
