Wikipedia protest hits home: U.S. senators withdraw support for controversial anti-piracy bills
It was the day when Wikipedia went black and more than 100million people struggled to answer questions in classrooms and offices. The protest, joined by 7,000 sites, and supported by Google and Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, seems to have had some effect. Up to 18 senators have publicly withdrawn support for the SOPA and PIPA bills that critics said would allow the U.S. Congress to implement draconian laws to police the internet and combat piracy. Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who co-sponsored the controversial 'Protect IP' - PIPA bill said, 'Congress should listen and avoid rushing through a bill that could have many unintended consequences.'...read more>>>..
