[Daily Mail]: Attorney General Geoffrey Cox told the PM
that proroguing Parliament was 'lawful and within the constitution', it
was revealed tonight.
The government's
chief law officer advised Mr Johnson that there was no problem with his
plan, and any criticism would be 'politically motivated'.
But
the eminent QC is facing questions after the Supreme Court ruled
unanimously that the suspension was illegal and an 'extreme' move to
'frustrate' debate on Brexit.
There are also calls for No10 chief aide
Dominic Cummings and procedural adviser Nikki da Costa to be axed for
their roles in the debacle.
Delivering
the court's judgement this morning, president Lady Hale said the Prime
Minister's decision to ask the Queen to shut down the Commons for five
weeks was 'unlawful, void and of no effect'.
Jeremy Corbyn demanded the PM - who watched the disastrous events unfold from his hotel room in New York - resign.
According
to Sky News, advice that was previously redacted from court papers
indicates that Mr Cox said any accusation of unlawfulness was 'motivated
