Alex Tew thought up "Sock and Awe" a week ago and within days 45 million shoes had been thrown by 4.5 million unique users.
The 24-year-old from London has now sold the game he made late at night over pizza and beer on the online auction site.
The game has been mentioned on US television shows and inspired fans to post YouTube videos of themselves playing.

He decided to sell when maintaining the game began taking time and energy away from his real day job of preparing to launch a humour website. (Source: Sky News)
