A woman was last night still missing four days after making a distress call to say she had fallen into a hole after getting lost in the countryside. Tracy Gough, 29, called emergency services from her mobile phone shortly before 10pm on Saturday. She said she had bumped her head after falling into a hole or ditch and was unable to get out.
The 20-minute call was cut off when her phone battery ran out but she said she thought she might be in Cockshutt, Shropshire, near Shrewsbury. Police have checked the triangulation of the call, which suggests she was right. Music was detectable in the background, possibly from an outdoors source, while Miss Gough thought she heard a car drive past.
Her parents, John and Mary Gough, made a desperate plea for help. Mrs Gough said: 'I would ask people to please check any area where someone might have fallen and hurt themselves and to have a look where someone might have got stuck.'
Police described Miss Gough, from Ludlow, Shropshire, as a high-risk missing person on medication, which she is unlikely to have with her. It is known she stayed overnight on Friday at an inn about six miles from Cockshutt. West Mercia Police Superintendent Martin Whitelegg said: 'We have been carrying out extensive inquiries since we received that call, including the use of the West Mercia Police helicopter and police dogs. However, there has been no further information about her possible whereabouts, and although we are keeping an open mind, we are treating her phone call as genuine.'
