Madeleine's parents 'to sue TV reporter over murder smear'

Daily Mail Headline; says: ' The parents of Madeleine McCann are threatening to sue one of Portugal's best known television reporters for libel. Sources close to Kate and Gerry McCann say the couple are incensed over at least one live broadcast by Sandra Felgueiras, an experienced and glamorous broadcaster with national television station RTP. It is alleged that in one live transmission Ms Felgueiras intimated that Mrs McCann could have murdered her daughter.

The McCanns are seeking a copy of the tape, broadcast about 10 days ago, to have it transcribed. They have been informed of the contents of the broadcast but are seeking to double check themselves. It follows a series of smears in the Portuguese media which have implied that the McCanns or their friends, with whom they were dining on the night Madeleine vanished, are somehow involved in her disappearance.

A source close to the McCanns today said: "This is about trying to stop lurid accusations being aired. She [Felgueiras] was outrageous that week in the run-up to the 100 days [since Madeleine went missing]. She really was outrageous."

The source said Ms Felgueiras's report "encouraged a media frenzy", adding: "Both the McCanns are hard-working, law abiding professionals. It is very important to protect their reputation."

The McCanns and their friends have been battling against adverse publicity for the past three weeks - following a series of leaks from Portuguese police to the local media.

Thursday August 9th 2007 'Daily Merlin Insight'; "The maker represents the falsehoods which the tabloids clearly report. There is no substance to the lies that what they heard was really heard. .... tell them they lie its all lies ... Maddy's parents should turn now the tables on them. Their lawyer should clearly be seen to sue the Portuguese Police ..... it may now be the only way.The McCanns endure so much but not the coldness of a police cell. This is reserved for another ... an arrest has been called for. But who can they charge with nothing on anyone ... ?'
