Police launch new search of McCann's holiday apartment

Daily Mail Headline; says: ' Portuguese police have begun a new search of the apartment where Madeleine McCann disappeared for first time since late July. Seven officers spent around five hours inside the building today as they continued to persue a case against Kate and Gerry McCann, who have been named as official suspects in their four-year-old daughter's disappearance.

There are convinced that the apartment "holds the key" to solving the case. The group of detectives included Chief Inspector Tavares Almeida, who interviewed Kate McCann and recently requested to be removed from the case.

It is believed that new searches were also aconducted at a nearby beach. Meanwhile, one of Portugal's most senior detectives is taking charge of the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance, officials said today.

Paulo Rebelo, a senior criminal investigation coordinator at national police headquarters in Lisbon, was appointed to the McCann case late yesterday after a meeting of police chiefs, a spokeswoman said on condition of anonymity in accordance with police policy.
