Finding Your Animal Totem

1. This exercise is best performed outside, in Nature, for it is there, after all, that the animals reside. If you can manage it, pack your drum in a day-pack and hike out a ways. Find an isolated spot to sit. Bring a blanket or mat to sit on if that makes you more comfortable.

There are many, however, who live in the city and do not have ready access to the great outdoors. Don't worry about it; this exercise can easily be practiced indoors as well. All you really need is some room to move and a place to sit.

As you sit, you may wonder which way to face. There are, in fact, many shamanic traditions about the four cardinal directions. To the earliest European farmers of the Neolithic, the happy Otherworld and all its wisdom and grace was symbolized by the west.

Most traditions that have emerged from shamanism maintain this symbolish, with the west serving as the direction of transformation, death and rebirth. The east, as the opposite direction, represents all the opposite qualities embodied in the notion of beginnings; thus Hermetic and Kabbalistic rituals typically begin with the practicioner facing east, and yogis face east each morning to honor the rising sun. The north is commonly regarded as a difficult direction; it is from the north that the winter snows descend upon humankind to chill the earth. The opposite direction, south, is symbolic of abundance and fertility.

The answer to our question, then, is to face any direction you please, though east or south would be preferable.

If you are working outdoors at night, you may wish to focus your gaze upon the North Star. If you live in the city and are working indoors, you can simply visualize the North Star shining above your head. The easisiest way to find the North Star is to look for the Big Dipper. You probably know where it is already, for it is one of the best-known and most easily identifiable constellations in the heavens. Now focus on the Dipper's bowl. Note the end of the bowl farthest from the handle, and follow its line to the top or rim of the bowl. Then keep following the same line with your eyes until you reach the next star. This is Polaris, the North Star. You will know you've located it correctly if the star you're gazing at forms the top of the handle of yet another dipper--the Little Dipper.

2. Indoors or out, begin this exercise with drumming. Drum slowly and rythemically at first. If you can work with a partner, so much the better. Let your partner do the drumming for you, the better to focus your own concentration.

As you feel yourself become part of the drumbeat, build up your inner World Tree in your imagination. Breathe in and out with deep and constant rhythm that harmonizes with the drumbeat. Breathing in, draw the energy up from the earth to the topmost brances of the tree; breathing out, circulate the energy back into the earth.

3. When you feel fully empowered with the energy of your own Internal World Tree, stand up and increase the pace of the drumbeat. If you are working alone, you may need to get the hang of holding and beating your drum while moving around. (This, along with the difficulty involved in dragging a large object through the outdoors, is why it is best to work with a drum of relatively modest size.) Moving and drumming all at once may seem awkward at first, but Native American shamans do it all time.

Of course, if you are working with a partner, you won't have this problem; and when you stand up you will be signaling your partner than you are ready to dance, and that the pace of the drumming should increase.

If you genuinely feel that dancing with drum in hand is likely to cramp your style, and if your powers of imagination and will are sufficient to keep the drumbeat pounding in your head without the aid of the physical instrument, then by all means you may set down the drum at this juncture.

4. Move around the room, or around the outdoor space you have selected, in a circular motion. For this kind of work, always move in a clockwise direction.

Walking in the path of the sun symbolizes increase and beneficence, while moving counter-sunwise or widder-shins produces the opposite effect (and is best left to experienced magical workers who know what they're doing). As you move, feel free to use any kind of footsteps you please, but try to keep your movements more or less in time with the drumming. If someone else is drumming for you, or if you feel sufficiently confident to work without the drum, then you can use your hands as well.

As you dance, mentally call upon all the world's creatures to be with you in your circle. Send forth a voice from your mind, and see the sound waves traveling out through the universe. You will soon begin to sense the presence of the animal powers, to feel wings brush against your body, to hear the birdsong and the howling of wolves or coyotes, the neighing of horses, the scream of the jaguar--all the sounds and sensations of the animal kingdom.

5. As you dance in a circle, surrounded by the animal powers, be aware of how your footwork changes, and be aware of your hands and arms, if you're using them. You will take on a particular gait, a particular stance, a particular set of motions. These movements are characteristic of your animal, whose presence you will now begin to feel.

When an animal has fully established itself within you, let it dance in your spirit for a while. Then, stop dancing. Stand still until your breathing is slow and rhythmic once again. Welcome your animal into your soul.

When working with animals, be open-minded. Most Americans want to have a really trendy animal for a totem--a wolf, a bear, an eagle. But the biggest or cutest or trendiest critter isn't necessarily the most powerful animal for you.

In European lore, the little mouse was the spirit traveler par excellence, and hence an animal of great power. Don't try to bend the powers of the animal kingdom to your will, just let your animal come to you. Your animal totem may change over time, anyway, or you may find yourself hosting more than one. Records from the witch trials suggest that many witches had a least two or three animal familiars at one time.

Though the rituals are both interesting and powerful, they aren't the whole story. More often than not, we acquire our familiars in the most ordinary ways--a stray dong or cat may approach you in the street, begging to be taken home; or, if you live in the country, your familiar may turn out to be the wild critter who's friendly enough to eat from a little bowl on your front porch.

Don't intellectualize about the qualities attributed to different animals--by doing so, you will only end up choosing an animal image of how you want to be, rather than finding the totem you really need. You can go read about you animal totem after you've found it. You may still wish to examine some of the relevant Native American animal lore, simply to acquire a fuller perspective. All lore and myth arises from the earth, and cannot be separated from the land out of which it was born.

FATHER DIGS WITH HIS BARE HANDS AS SON DIES IN SAND

The beach
Tuesday August 5,2008
By Paul Broster
A teenage holidaymaker died when he was buried alive on a beach in front of his horrified parents.
The 16-year-old – named only as Chris – was walking through a giant sand dune tunnel created by him and his friends when it suddenly collapsed on him.The boy’s father used his hands in a desperate bid to free him as his frantic mother cried out for her entombed son to dig.
When he was pulled free by rescuers 20 minutes later, however, he was found to have suffocated.Last night, police were probing the tragedy at popular Cefn Sidan beach, near Llanelli, South Wales.Fourteen youngsters who had met while on holiday spent hours on Sunday burrowing the 15ft tunnel into rain-soaked sand dunes. It was so high they could walk through from one end to the other. But when Chris was part way along, it toppled on him.

Wet sand makes it easier for tunnelling

David Hughes, watch manager at Swansea Coastguard
He and his family, from Wrexham, were staying at a nearby caravan site. After the tunnel collapse, the parents were heard screaming: “Come on Chris. Help dig yourself out.” They were also joined in the bid to save him by his aunt and uncle.Rescuers said that Chris’s head and arms eventually emerged but he was unconscious after tons of sand crashed down on him.John Jones, station manager at Burry Port Coastguard, said: “The whole family were around. "Everyone was shouting. When we got to the area, his friends had uncovered his head. Then we concentrated on uncovering his torso. The problem was the weight of sand on his body and all our efforts went into getting the sand away from his chest

“The family were shouting at him to help himself, believing that he was conscious and able to help us. They were hysterical. There was a lot of crying and screaming.”Mr Jones added: “The sand would have been wet and firm to begin with but, once the tunnel was dug, air would have got in and dried it out and that is why it collapsed.” The boy was taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea by air ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival. His parents returned to the eight-mile stretch of beach yesterday, accompanied by police, to lay flowers at the spot where their son died.Lifeguards’ beach flags were flying at half-mast and teenagers left bunches of flowers. One note read: “I will always remember you and your cheeky smile.”David Hughes, watch manager at Swansea Coastguard, said: “Unfortunately children don’t see the peril. People think the sea is the danger when they are at the beach – but sand can be a killer too. “Wet sand makes it easier for tunnelling. But sand is unstable and heavy and can collapse at any time.” Mother-of-three Pam Johnson, 41, said: “We were on the beach when everyone suddenly started running towards the dunes. The boy’s father and lots of other people were trying to dig him out. I couldn’t watch.”

Quote for the Day

I know God will not give me anything I can't handle.

I just wish that he didn't trust me so much.

MOTHER TERESA

A Jicarilla Apache Legend

Fox one day met a Rabbit who was sewing a sack. "What do you intend to do with that sack?" asked he. "I am making this coat to protect myself from being killed by the hard hail which we are going to have today," replied Rabbit.

"My friend, you know how to make them; give me this coat and make another for yourself."

Rabbit agreed to this, and Fox put on the sack over his head. Rabbit then hung him on a limb and pelted him with stones, while Fox, thinking it was hail striking him, endured the punishment as long as he could, but finally fell nearly dead from the tree, and looked out, to see no signs of hail, but discovered the Rabbit running away.

Fox wished to avenge himself by killing Rabbit, and set off in pursuit of him.

When overtaken Rabbit was chewing soft gum with which to make spectacles. Fox's curiosity was stronger than his passion for revenge. "What are you making those for?" said he.

"It is going to be very hot, and I am making them to protect my eyes," answered Rabbit.

"Let me have this pair; you know how to make them and can make yourself another pair."

"Very well," said Rabbit, and he put the eye-shields on Fox, who could then see nothing, as the gum was soft and filled his eyes.

Rabbit set fire to the brush all around Fox, who was badly singed in running through it. The gum melted in the fire, and yet remains as the dark rings around his eyes. Fox again started on the trail of Rabbit, with the determination of eating him as soon as he saw him.

He found Rabbit sitting beside the opening of a beehive. "I am going to eat you," said Fox ; "you have tried to kill me."

"You must not kill me," replied Rabbit. "I am teaching these children," and he closed the opening of the hive, so that Fox could not see what was inside. Fox desired very much to see what was in the hive making such a noise. "If you wish to see, stay here and teach them while I rest. When it is dinner time, strike them with a club," said Rabbit, who then ran away.

Fox patiently awaited the dinner hour, and then struck the hive with such force that he broke into it. The bees poured out and stung him until he rolled in agony.

"When I see you again, I will kill you before you can say a word!" declared he, as he started after Rabbit again.

The Sacred Triangle

Tonight's 'observation' appears strange, maligned ... misdirected even ... seeing something different. Another focus from another direction. But lo! There is a common link it seems. Coincidence ... nay. A perfect cover some would say. A mask. A bend in the bowstring ...

Appearing out of the blue ... yes. But perhaps not was expected. Why now ... and there is a fool within the script too it seems. A real life fall guy. So, yes I speak in riddles. But often it is the best way. A toss of the dice and a gamble it seems. To distract watching eyes another way from the obvious. Many weeks for this latest one to reach fruition. Permitting something below the table to sneak away unchallenged. The dust from under the carpet expertly washed. Because ... it was ledft out there in plain view ...

Can't help but see it this way ... it is in my nature to muse, and to see what others cannot see. But say it in a way that it remains, shall we say 'under wraps'. On the scene in one ... on the scene in two ... now that is quite coincidental. Suspicious even to some. But ... perhaps not.

For one it seemed perfectly innocent to delve. To research. Aware of the risks and the downfalls. But it was in one's nature to question ... and to gain the answers to temper an inquisitive heart. Yet, in the end too close to the bullseye resulted one single look and then it was over. Sadly. Without knowing that someone ... aware of the risk, perhaps even warned. Taking it seriously but not letting that intimidation change life.

Watched nearby from a blended viewpoint. No attention drawn. Discovery was the four of spheres and the upturned pandora's box. The contents viewed and the chance for those secrets to be divulged. A risk perhaps too great. Put that one who was at two ... at the centre of the situation. Aware of the information highway ... able to switch and dictate. Do as is told to keep silence the golden word ...

Three of Staves and the triangle with three points. Within that sacred triangle the answer lies. Is kept tightly lipped within the heart of the city . No word or clue can be uttered. There can be only silence ... hence the silent silhouette of the Maker of Staves.

The Element of Air

Suit: Swords (sometimes Wands - see Fire).

Spirit, intellectual development, rationalisation, and inspiration come under the dominion of Air. Air encompasses areas of thought, such as science and logic, along with all forms of written, spoken and technological communication.

Everything ever done by anybody was the end result of the element of Air - someone had to think about it before it could happen! In Air we find the link to our spiritual needs, and when we know what our needs are we can apply our Will to manifest them into our mundane lives.

Imagine you are an artist - by perceiving your core (Air) you can visualise ideas (Water) and then use your Will (Fire) to direct your painting skills (Water again). The resulting painting (Earth) can be exchanged for money (also Earth). But it all started with Air.

The Swords suit tends to be dreaded by most people. This is because Swords can indicate emotional conflict, battles, disruption and difficulties. It also examines the process of creating trends in life - what we do today shapes how tomorrow will be. If we make a bad choice now, it will result in a bad outcome in the future. If we are not true to our inner needs, we will find ourselves forced to realign, often uncomfortably. And of course, if we do something dirty to someone else, it will find its way back to us sooner or later. In each case, the thought came first and the action followed.

Thought belongs to Air. What we think has an enormous impact on our life now and the life we are shaping. Natural laws ensure that if we perceive our True Will clearly, recognise our place in the world, and work with all we have to achieve our highest potential, then we will find ourselves sure and certain. If not, then we end up in conflict - with ourselves and with others - unhappy and dissatisfied.

You can perhaps see that when the less positive Swords appear in a reading, they indicate that the person in question is at not fulfilling their own function and is not pursuing their true needs. This naturally results in conflict. Our emotional reactions often show up around Swords, revealing our emotional reactions to what is going on, one which often clouds the rational logic of the Swords and acts to block us.

This then is Swords - connected with the spirit and the intellect, often indicating inner conflict and uncertainty, shrouded by emotions. Yet, as keepers of our own destiny, we can use Swords to recognise the areas of unhappiness and clear them out, leaving the way clear for us to achieve our highest potential.

The Elements

There are four suits in the Tarot, as well as the Major Arcana. Each of these suits correspond to a given element: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The suits are interpreted differently depending on the element they belong to. So Earth tends to focus on family and money issues, whereas Air focuses on communication and the intellect.

The four elements are part of ancient teaching. For a long time, it has been believed that material life is made up of these elements, and without them there would be no world and no life on it. It makes sense when you think about how without Earth there would be no planet, without Water we could not drink and nothing could grow, without Fire there would be no Sun and so no life, without Air we could not breathe.

Everything in our material world belongs to one or more of these elements. So a book could belong to Earth because of its physical presence, but it might also belong to Air since it is passing on knowledge.

Each element can be active or passive, as they are part of the overall principle of polarity which is strongly emphasised within the Tarot. We have, for example, the polarities of the High Priestess and the Magician, the Emperor and the Empress.

DNA and The Unconscious

In the biological sphere, the discovery of DNA has brought science that much closer to the basic reality of life itself. And one might imagine that that discovery could provide some speculation, at the very least, on the relations between psyche and soma.

DNA is the pneumonic for deoxyribonucleic acid. which was discovered in 1944. It is the basic chemical component of the genes in animals and plants, as well as nearly all primitive life forms such as bacteria, viruses, retroviruses, etc. It is the material in the nucleus of every cell and the component of the genes. The genes transmit our heritage from the past and direct our development and physical function from the moment of the first cell division until we die. The DNA in any given individual is unique because the fertilized egg derives half of it's DNA from each parent who in turn derived their DNA from four grand parents, etc. Despite the potential for infinite variability, 97% of human DNA seems to be identical to that of other animals. However, not only does that 3% set us apart as a species it provides us with our own individual characteristics and the specific DNA that distinguishes us from our fellow human beings. Scientists are busy studying DNA in many different ways.

The pattern of DNA configuration suggests encryption of something similar to the encoding of languages. This could take the form of universal symbols, signs, or runes that convey universal facts and truths. These encoded messages might well be identical but when decoded they may not appear identical due to the variable individual descriptive techniques and coloration of the decoder.

DNA has the potential of being the reservoir of the archetypal symbols of the collective unconscious.

An analogy might be made to present day computers. The DNA would then be the memory chip and the program, the cell would be the computer, and the body would be the hard copy. It must be noted that DNA is much more sophisticated than any chip that human kind has developed. Its capacity is vast--something, perhaps, comparable to a hard drive of 6 gigabytes. In addition DNA has the ability of self activation, direction and replication. In other words, a computer that can invent and modify itself.

If we assume that DNA arose from a common source, then we would all share the same DNA, hence we would all be merely clones. But, of course, mutations have and do cause changes which have resulted in evolution. Too, from just the physical aspects alone there are marked variations in nature, as for example, the snowflake which is based on the hexagonal, crystalline structure that water assumes upon freezing. There is so much variation in the flakes that there are infinite differences between them. In other words there is great diversity between us even though our DNA has so much similarity with all other human beings.

On the other hand identical twins allegedly have identical DNA yet these individuals are diverse enough that we have very little difficulty distinguishing between them physically, emotionally, and mentally. Every cell in our body contains the same DNA as every other cell. So why is not one cell like every other cell? We know that DNA is responsible for directing and coordinating the activity of the individual genes in determining what kind of cell is to be produced and how it is to function, as well as, directing when a specific activity is to cease. We have discovered how some specific genes work and also how to use them medically to better manage some physical diseases, but by and large, we have no idea of the ultimate intricacies that are involved.

Computers have been made comprised of a 'chip' made of DNA. These computers are very crude and inefficient when compared to our mechanical ones, but they differ in that they are capable of solving problems by 'lateral' thinking as opposed to linear '"on/off' patterns which are the limiting factors of our present day computers.

The structural configuration of DNA takes on a pattern that is commonly encountered by cryptologists, specialists who decipher unknown languages and encoded messages. This infers to the possibility that DNA may well contain an encrypted symbolic record of the history of all life forms.

To paraphrase Jung, “the collective unconscious is that psychic component that contains all that is unknown that is shared by all human beings”. DNA is shared by all human beings and all other life forms and is comprised of vast amounts of the unknown. Not only does it encode all that has preceded us, it provides the mechanism by which that knowledge may or may not be altered and the path to pass it into the future, just as it has been doing for eons. At present, as tool-making animals, we are in the process of decoding some of those secrets or bits of information.

The encrypted symbolic language referred to above could well be the reservoir for the archetypes. The psychics, seers. and space-time travellers may well be persons who are able to access encrypted DNA in a more direct manner than can the majority of us. Simultaneous reading of DNA could account for synchronicity. (read more ...)

Terror blast kills 16 police in China just four days before Olympics begin

Sixteen police officers have been killed and 16 others injured this morning after a Chinese border station was attacked with grenades and officers hacked with knives in what appears to be the country's worst terrorist attack in a decade.

Just days before the start of the Beijing Olympics, attackers drove a dump truck at a group of jogging officers at a patrol station in the Xinjiang province.

"The two attackers got off the lorry after the vehicle veered to hit on a roadside wire pole," said the English-language report from the state-run Xinhua News Agency. "They threw two grenades to the barracks, causing explosion. They also hacked the policemen with knives."

"This is the most serious incident recorded in years," a Human Rights Watch spokesman said. "Ahead of the Olympics, it is a very powerful symbolic attack because security in Xinjiang is at an all-time high."

The attack was in Kashgar, an area where local Muslim Uighur have waged a sporadic rebellion against Chinese rule. Local police suspect it was a "terrorist attack", said the report.

It came just four days before the start of the Beijing Olympics - an event that at least one radical Muslim group has vowed to attack. Police "got clues suggesting that the 'East Turkestan Islamic Movement' planned to make terrorist attacks during Aug. 1-8, just ahead of the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing," Xinhua reported.

The brief Xinhua account said the attackers drove the dump truck to get inside the paramilitary police compound in the Kashgar area and then exploded two grenades. A state television report gave a different version, saying the police were attacked while marching in front of a hotel while conducting morning drills. (Daily Mail)

Dando murder police to launch cold case review of 2,100 original suspects

Daily Mail (Monday 4th August 2008) says: Police are to launch a cold case review of the Jill Dando murder inquiry after the acquittal last week of Barry George.

Detectives are to re-examine a list of 2,100 suspects who were originally considered in connection with the TV presenter’s killing nine years ago.

The move comes after Barry George has admitted pestering female strangers in the street but insisted: ' I am not a danger to women any more.'

Senior Scotland Yard detectives will review all the suspects in the Dando case this week, including more than 100 men who had a fixation with Jill, her ex-partners, professional hitmen and criminals caught through Crimewatch.

'Asking The Impossible'

Following some feedback via an e-mail ( 'you are asking the impossible for anyone to successfully "SEE" what the image is') regarding the recent Psychic development exercises, I have decided to adapt the experiments slightly.

Instead of having to remote view totally blind ... and come up with the near impossible needle in a haystack ... I'm going to streamline the experiment so that a montage of 8 or 9 images will be posted for the next experiment.

Anyone interested will be asked to focus their attention on the images and elect intuitively which of the images is the one which is being 'broadcasted' via the posting ...

Anyone who feels they can still say what the image is projected with regard to the last experiment ... please still let me know. The experiment does, in one way, indicate just how difficult it is to do a remote viewing 'cold'. Basically with no other information provided ...

Snow Mountains

Matt and I decided to take a trip out on Saturday to the Snow Mountains in NSW.
Now for anyone that knows me personally, will know that I don't 'do' snow or cold, so it came as a surprise to Matt when I agreed to go!

It was a gorgeous sunny morning here in Canberra, small amount of ground ice early morning but that always clears pretty quickly.

We headed off towards Cooma, a nice pleasant drive although a bit boring samey samey landscape, but we are just so gateful to be living in this fantastic country, we embraced the surrounds as we drove.

We landed at Cooma and stopped for a bite to eat and a quick look around the local shops and then the tourist information centre.

Matt was quite disappointed when the updated notice board was stating that all vehicles needed snow chains to reach the snow mountain resorts.
We had none!

So we drove as far as we could, still sunshine, blue skies but no snow on the ground. Then we had to turn back, pointless going any further without snow chains.

We did manage to catch the tips of some of the snow mountains though in the distant background.

Ah well, it was an adventure, another Aussie exploration weekend for us and we enjoyed it!

Principles of Homeopathy

In conventional medicine, the symptoms are considered to be a manifestation of the disease. The drugs are given to kill the bacteria causing it or to dampen the symptom of the condition. Homeopaths, on the other hand, see the symptoms as the body's attempt to heal itself. They see the symptom as a positive sign that the body's defense mechanism is trying to fight the underlying cause and by this reasoning, they insist that the symptoms should not be suppressed as we are working against the body's attempt to cure it.

The Law of Similars
The principle that like shall be cured by like, or Similia similibus curantur. This principle, recognized by physicians and philosophers since ancient times, became the basis of Hahnemann's formulation of the homeopathic doctrine: the proper remedy for a patient's disease is that substance that is capable of producing, in a healthy person, symptoms similar to those from which the patient suffers.

In other words, a substance produces symptoms of illness in a well person when administered in large doses; if we administer the same substance in minute quantities, it will cure the disease in a sick person. Hahnemann suggested that this is because nature will not allow two similar diseases to exist in the body at the same time. Thus homeopaths will introduce a similar artificial disease into the body which will push the original one out. The dose is small so that there is no danger of any long term side effects.

The Principle of Minimum Dose
This principle states that extreme dilution enhances the curative properties of a substance, while eliminating any possible side effects. This is just the reverse of conventional drug philosophy where a minimum dose is required for effect. Starting from the conventional dose, as we decrease the concentration (or increase the dilution), the medicine become less and less efficient. But below a threshold, the medicine start getting potent again. Homeopaths uses this region of potency.

Whole Person Prescribing
A homeopath studies the whole person. Characteristics such as their temperament, personality, emotional and physical responses when prescribing a remedy, etc. are studied. So, a homeopath may treat different persons exhibiting the same symptom differently. (For example, two persons exhibiting flu like symptoms may get two different medication from the homeopath based on the appraisal of the mind body constitution.)

Laws of Cure
There are three laws of cure, They are:

A remedy starts at the top of the body and works downward

A remedy works from within the body outward, and from major to minor organs

Symptoms clear in reverse order of appearance.

Party Sparks Alien Invasion Fears

Police in Scotland have been flooded with reports of UFO sightings - after party goers attached candles to balloons and sent them floating into the sky.

The party guests in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire, released the balloons along with wishes that they hoped would come true. But residents in the surrounding area were shocked by the sight of the illuminated globes in the sky, mistaking them for an alien invasion.

Central Scotland Police said they received more than a dozen calls in half an hour from locals who thought the balloons were interstellar craft.

A spokesman said: "We've had call, after call, after call, saying it's UFOs. It turns out that there's a party going on and they are letting off balloons with candles on. They make a wish and then release them into the sky." (Sky News Sunday 3rd August 2008)

John Edwards-Cross Country

I was watching this programme last night and as always John was pretty good. Enjoyable viewing.

At the end of his programme though, he went on to explain a bit more about spirit messages and what they choose to bring through. He said to the audience, how he would love to have a conversation with spirit something like this:

" Hi, my name is John, what is your name, who are you looking for and what can you tell me, etc etc..." (you get the picture?)

He laughed and explained that spirit don't give a damn about what he would like to hear/know, all they are interested in is getting the message across to the right person, even if it means talking about a incident that happened 25 years ago. Quite often the recipient can't even remember until much later about the said incident. It is so true.

When I have used psychometry in the past doing a one to one reading, all kinds of information comes through, some funny, some not so funny and some very embarrassing!

Like John explained, you just cannot choose what the loved ones in spirit are going to talk about, only accept it is their way of making the recipient acknowledge that life truly does go on after death. Even if they bring embarrassing news at times!

'Turning the Cogs?'

The latest crop circle ... discovered 1st August 2008 at Watchfield Wind Farm near Shrivenham, Oxfordshire.

It seems to be very symbolic. The three 'spheres' appear to have 'cog-like' designs. Hinting that the movement of any of the three individual cogs will influence the movement of the other two. The central sphere appears like the largest of the three individual 'entities' ... yet it's movement could still be influenced by the other two smaller individual entities ...

Mmm ... the question is, the creator of this circle, is it human or 'non-human' ... ??

Airport threat to your laptop: U.S. also gets power to seize iPods and mobiles in new anti-terror measure

Travellers to the U.S. could have their laptops and other electronic devices seized at the airport under new anti-terror measures. Federal agents have been granted powers to take such devices and hold them as long as they like.

They do not even need grounds to suspect wrongdoing.

The Department of Homeland Security said the policies applied to anyone entering the country by land, sea or air, including U.S. citizens.

The extent of the new powers, which have been secretly in place for some time, was revealed yesterday in the Washington Post.

They cover hard drives, flash drives, mobile phones, iPods, pagers, beepers, and video and audio tapes, as well as books, pamphlets and other written materials, the report said. (Daily Mail Saturday 2nd August 2008)

Dream Catchers

An ancient Chippewa tradition
The dream net has been made
For many generations
Where spirit dreams have played.

Hung above the cradle board,
Or in the lodge up high,
The dream net catches bad dreams,
While good dreams slip on by.

Bad dreams become entangled
Among the sinew thread.
Good dreams slip through the center hole,
While you dream upon your bed.

This is an ancient legend,

Thought for the Day ...

If the Great Spirit has desired me to be a white man he would have made me so in the first place. He put in your heart certain wishes and plans; in my heart he put other and different desires.

Each man is good in the sight of the Great Spirit. It is not necessary for eagles to be crows. Now we are poor but we are free. No white man controls our footsteps. If we must die, we die defending our rights.

The Bowstring

Fragments of the 'thousand points of lights' are sensed like shining beacons within the barren desert. They were sensed from the onset. Their frequencies remain even now. Like a bowstring bending the shape of what is there before ... shielding a trail defensively with a number of cul-de-sacs. Many doors to open ... through confusion it is not that apparent which is the actual trail. But know that trail is clearly laid down. But with all that has gone on ... it has been forgotten/overlooked.

'Go back to the start'. Back to the beginning. Take away what has been said by the agencies of the thousand points of light. Deflect the barrier so carefully constructed ... and the trail along the darkened streets will not be seen. It appears there may have been still light in the sky when that trail was wandered along ...

A path appeared on a radar screen. A blip followed by a bigger blip when eyes were averted from the task. Naval vessels did not comprehend what had slipped the net. But in truth it slipped the net before the net was put in place.

Coincidences and strange circumstances created ... by the higher hands not to be questioned by the lowly cattle. For in truth it was not their concern. But because the cattle grazes in the fields ... the cattle have to be distracted somehow ...

'Wedding Reception Ghost'

Paranormal.about.com says: "The funny thing is, Mel said to me only weeks before his wedding that strange things kept happening at his council flat (ground floor).

However, on the discovery of the photographs of the wedding, there really is a ghostly figure standing through the kitchen window. It almost makes me chilled to the bone as I am the nearest thing to the window, and I was talking and moving around all the time speaking the reception of people in the garden. What's more, the black eyes and a fairly good height of this person gives me the creeps."

'Sailor's Ghosts'

This photo was taken by the wife of the coach seen in the picture, inside the Ford Island gymnasium at Naval Station Pearl Harbor. Look carefully in the top right corner of the picture. There are three prominent ghost-like figures that appear in the photo. The photo was taken in the early evening with a digital point-and-shoot camera.

Here's something interesting: The evening this photo was taken was also team "picture night." That's why the lady who took this had her camera with her. As well, a professional photographer was present and took lots of photos inside the gym that evening.

A long-time employee on base told that building once also served as a huge pool hall, bar and dancefloor. A place where sailors wanted to congregate. As well, the ancient Hawaiians apparently used Ford Island as a ceremonial place. All of his sure adds to the allure of the photo.

Tarot Card of the Day

Keep your eyes open. If much is demanded of you today, you will reap rewards at least as great. Know that the influence of the solar eclipse will be with you for about 3 months (at least it will take that long to have things materialise). The days coming up will hold intrigue.

Look outside yourself to your family, your community, your city, your state, your government. It’s a day to see what is being done and if all of the information is available before any final decision is made. The feeling here is that there is something happening that we must become aware of. Watch your judgment. Use your heart in these decisions.

The up side of this day is to pay close attention to hearing the whole story, not just those pieces that serve the teller of the story. Look under the leaf for all the facts. The up side is about your awareness of this kind of information and that there
is more to it than meets the eye. Go into your heart today and make sure you know how you feel before you act.

The down side is that you take everything at face value, you do no investigation into all of the facts, and you make your decisions based on the surface issues and not what lies beneath.

This is a great day if you have your eyes wide open. It could be quite an adventurous day, as well. This kind of energy may reignite some old passions and rev your ideals into action. Look at what’s happening in your n
eighborhood and ask yourself if you are truly part of your community or just going along with ‘whatever’.

New Zealand: Vacated North Shore residents waiting out more rain

North Shore residents evacuated following landslides caused by heavy rain during the week are waiting out another downfall before decisions can be made about returning home.

While some residents have returned following the evacuations on Tuesday, one home has been declared a write off and six others are still being monitored.

North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams said two of the homes affected by a large slip in Torbay appeared safe, but heavy rain this weekend could aggravate it further.

He said this afternoon the slip had not moved in the past 24 hours and provided that didn't change, residents would return.

"They can move back in, but we suggested they wait until the end of the weekend because we're a bit uncertain about what this weather bomb that comes through tonight is going to be like.

"If the slip were to start again we wouldn't want to put them at risk."

Mr Williams said another two houses above the slip were more severely affected and engineers needed to work out how unstable they were and what measures would be needed to secure the slip face.

Taking The Risk

Most of us are familiar with the idea of keeping it real and have an intuitive sense about what that means. People who keep it real don’t hide behind a mask to keep themselves safe from their fear of how they might be perceived. They don’t present a false self in order to appear more perfect, more powerful, or more independent. People who keep it real present themselves as they truly are, the good parts and the parts most of us would rather hide, sharing their full selves with the people who are lucky enough to know them.

Being real in this way is not an easy thing to do as we live in a culture that often shows us images of physical and material perfection. As a result, we all want to look younger, thinner, wealthier, and more successful. We are rewarded externally when we succeed at this masquerade, but people who are real remind us that, internally, we suffer. Whenever we feel that who we are is not enough and that we need to be bigger, better, or more exciting, we send a message to ourselves that we are not enough. Meanwhile, people who are not trying to be something more than they are walk into a room and bring a feeling of ease, humor, and warmth with them. They acknowledge their wrinkles and laugh at their personal eccentricities without putting themselves down.

People like this inspire us to let go of our own defenses and relax for a moment in the truth of who we really are. In their presence, we feel safe enough to take off our masks and experience the freedom of not hiding behind a barrier. Those of us who were lucky enough to have a parent who was able to keep it real may find it easier to be that way ourselves. The rest of us may have to work a little harder to let go of our pretenses and share the beauty and humor of our real selves. Our reward for taking such a risk is that as we do, we will attract and inspire others, giving them the permission to be real too.

Image of the Day: The Partial Eclipse

Sky-watchers were out in force yesterday for the chance to glimpse a rare solar eclipse. For over an hour a bite appeared to be taken out of the sun as its rays were obscured by the moon.
The partial eclipse was visible from the whole of the UK and Ireland. Depending on where it was viewed, between a 10th and a third of the sun was blotted out.

In other parts of the world, including Canada, Greenland, Russia and China, the sun was completely hidden by a total eclipse.

Members of the Society for Popular Astronomy equipped with telescopes gathered in London's Hyde Park to witness the event.Telescopes for members of the public to use were also set up at the Greenwich Observatory in London, the National Space Centre in Leicester, and at locations in the Irish Republic. What is it .....?

Ok, its time for another 'psychic experiment' ... it's time again to determine what is the mystery object which formerly occupied the space below (that is if you wish to partake in the experiment ...otherwise ignore this posting) ...

For those who wish to try to 'see' what the object is ...

Clear your mind, now. Permit the image which is clearly in my own mind ... to be transmitted to your mind now. The image is what occupies the space below. I am beaming it across cyberspace to you now. Believe that I can. I can see it ... and you can see it now. Without hesitation write down the first thing you sense with 'gut instinct' now ...

Accept that this experiment is perfectly feasible and possible. Defy your logical mind that screams out 'impossible'. Dispel the doubt and know it is possible to know what it is that has been projected into your mind from this post. It is being beamed across to you again ... right now ...

See it ... sense it ... feel it ....

Make a note of what you sense it in the space below ... and if you want to e-mail me your answer ... I will send you a copy of the image I am visualising ...

(What is the image?)

Note, this is a GENUINE experiment. Anyone who wishes to participate, please do so ... for those interested in psychic development, spend a few moments trying the experiment ... make a note of what you sense is the image.

We will post the actual image used in a week's time ... GOOD LUCK

The Magical Use Of Voice

Speech is the main form of communication used in our culture - we are all capable of making a wide range of noises with our mouths, and as the word "en-chant-ment" suggests, the voice has played a powerful role in magick, in all ages and cultures. The aim of this essay is to examine the ways in which the voice can be used in magick, and suggest exercises which will help the reader to develop the range of vocal techniques.

In all cultures, the voice has been an important carrier of power, and most mystery traditions and religions make use of songs, chants, and prose to worship or bring about gnosis. From dramatic choruses to hymn and prayer, from working songs such as sea shanties and battle songs to children's skipping rhymes and folk spells; the power of voice is amazing. Orators, both political and religious, have used the power of their voices to project their charisma and enthuse mass audiences - look at the crowds that Billy Graham attracts for example. The sound of a spoken phrase can go far beyond its meaning to speak directly to the Deep Mind. An extreme example of this is described by Nandor Fodor, a Jewish psychoanalyst who notes the effects of listening to Adolf Hitler's "rabble-rousing" speeches. He had heard these speeches on two occasions on the radio, and recalls that although due to its raucous harshness, Hitler's German was totally incomprehensible to Fodor (who was a native Hungarian),he felt that:

"ever so slowly, my blood began to boil, and I wanted to shout and scream. It was not a rage against him. It was with him, like a flow of lava is with the volcano."

Modern politicians very often resort to a speech pattern known as "pathic", which combines tone and the pacing of words to project an underlying message that no matter what they are talking about, they are "in control", and "everything is fine - don't get alarmed". The waking mind can be easily bypassed, so that meaning is carried directly to the Deep Mind, stirring the appropriate emotions which the speaker wishes to stir.

We can use our voices to convey and project emotional messages very effectively, and tone often betrays our true feelings on a subject, despite what we actually say. Young children are often confused by a verbal threat delivered in a light tone of voice. Therapists and healers can pick up a great deal of information from a client's manner of speaking. The huge differences in accents in a country allows us to identify a persons origin, even though they have been resident in another region for years. Using soothing tones can lull people into relaxive trance states, while shouting and hyperventilating can propel us into excitatory states - as demonstrated by cults such as the Shakers. Elsewhere we find that the voice can be an aid to martial prowess - ranging from war cries and battle songs, to the articulation of short syllables during martial arts duels, which are designed to act as carriers for chin (jin) or to distract an opponent.

Speech also has a cosmological dimension. That, "in the beginning, was the Word" is a concept common to many cultures, as is the idea that the correct pronunciation of certain Divine names will bring about the end of the world. Also, there is the idea of the "Rule of Names", most eloquently expressed in Ursula Le Guin's "Earthsea" stories - that if you know the "True name" of an entity, then you can command it". William Burroughs, in "The Place of Dead Roads", puts it another way:

"As soon as you name something, you remove its power....If you could look Death in the face he would lose his power to kill you. When you ask Death for his credentials, his passport is indefinite". (Read more ....)

A Fresh Look

What I 'hold' does not indicate that there is any truth in the Portuguese sleaze. There is nothing I sense, even now, that makes me doubt the first time I uttered "she's alive". It's still the case as far as I am concerned. I can still feel a mortal heart beat. I feel heartburn and tension. I feel tantrums and a sweet tooth. I sense strongly the life signs of a young girl. It frustrates me greatly this charade cannot be brought to a close.

The teething does not trouble her now as much as it did. But her arms appear to ache. Particularly the left arm but I can't say why. Unless she over-exerts herself throwing ball or stones ... I feel too a strain on her muscles around her shoulders. She seems to still be hyperactive. Leading a busy life.

I was almost tempted to say ... the life on a farm. With all the animals. With the fields ... but I cannot confirm why it is I have this inkling. For her it is still not a normal life ... but cattle and dairy do seem to figure around where I detect with psychometry in this moment in time. The land ain't flat ... and the local accent is certainly not European. It is a familiar lilt ... and the landscape.... half in shadow and half in sun. Vales and hillsides ... green and yellow pastures ... close to the heart and within the bounds of heritage. A clever hiding place indeed ... wearing red with her hair almost back to it was. A tumbling tomboy ... outwardly enjoying life, but inwardly there seems so much to think about.

This child is very much alive.

Looking now to the Servants of the Light. Listening too for any indications from the higher planes. I slip into heightened awareness ... and thus the 8 of Weapons is the first indicator. The elusive location so close to mind. Yet so far away. There seems a canal close by ... and narrow winding lanes. Road accessed by a green 4 x 4. A red faced man with shabby beard and hair. Someone she has seen and I see it in her mind's eye. Bob or Robert is close by ...

The 4 of Spheres and Pandora's Box still opened. The fragile state of affairs. Somehow the story remains hidden. The need for new opportunities whilst the sun still shines. It appears to have come off the rails but something new hovers nigh.

The 3 of Weapons and the heart symbolically pierced by the three swords. One is the flaming sword and the effect of the disappearance. The other two are the crossed swords and the continued conflict behind the scenes. Eyes still watch the distinctive eye ... surveillance requires the instruction to act. Advisors suggest the end to this situation. A convenient break ... the need for all the pieces to come into place ...

Her residence surrounded by fields of green. Winding narrow lanes flit in and out of the sloping fields. Hedgerows on the sides of the lanes. More fine tuning could result in a name ...

Investigators still look in the wrong places. Mislead by the wrong reports. Things which are discarded, hidden at the bottom of piles and in the crevices behind official documents should reveal this place. I once said Leeds for clues ... investigations into groups within the Yorkshire area could herald new leads. Persons with responsibility have overlooked ... and disregarded those scraps of papers which would lead to where they know they must not look. Influence has swayed and contrived it all ... to permit the spiralling stalemate which has been the case in recent months.

Shamanic Smudging

Shamanic smudging—or just smudging—is an age-old tribal tradition which has been used for centuries to create harmony and peace. There are many different shamanic smudging ceremonies, and different tribes use a variety of herbs for smudging.

To define it more clearly, shamanic smudging is the burning of herbs or incense for cleansing, purification, protection of physical and spiritual bodies, banishment of negative energies and creation of sacred space. You can use smudge sticks (herbs that are tied into a bundle for easier handling), braided herbs and botanicals (like sweetgrass) or loose herbs (burned on charcoal or mugwort, or in a firepit). Shamanic smudging releases the energy and fragrance of the herbs and botanicals so they can heal, cleanse and purify.

In many traditions, shamanic smudging involves a four directions ceremony or prayer, which sends specific kinds of smoke or prayers into the four directions. Different tribes have different smudging prayers that “program” the smoke to do a specific action, such as cleansing or aiding in divination.

In general, shamanic smudging can be used in daily life for practical purposes—to restore physical, mental and emotional balance; to shield against negative energies; to cleanse yourself, your magickal tools and your space; and to restore you sacred space.

Smudging yourself on a daily basis can be very helpful in keeping yourself balanced and maintaining a peaceful state of being. However, you should definitely use shamanic smudging techniques when you’ve been around people who are ill, depressed, fearful, angry or generally emotionally unbalanced; before meditating to create a calm state of being; when you’re feeling blue or depressed; or when you’ve been under a lot of stress.

Smudging yourself is easy. If you’re using a smudge stick, light the smudge stick on a candle flame. Hold the stick in the flame until there is a lot of smoke and the stick is burning well (that’s why a candle is better than a match—it can take a while to get the stick really smoking). Using a feather (or feather fan) or your hand, gently fan the smoke onto your body, starting at the top of the body and moving downward. Get the back of your body as best you can (it’s often easier to use a smudge pot and loose herbs for this). When you’re done, inhale a little of the smoke (just a little!) to purify your insides.

If you’re using a smudge pot or Firebowl and loose herbs, light the herbs (using self-lighting charcoal—not the barbeque kind!) until it is smoking well. Then, put the Firebowl on the ground and stand over it with your legs spread and feet on either side. Weave back and forth in the smoke until you have been thoroughly cleansed. Clothing is optional for this approach, and smudging in the nude is recommended for a more thorough cleansing. Again, when you’re done, inhale a little of the smoke to purify your insides. People often feel more relaxed, lighter and brighter after smudging.

If you’re going to use the smudge smoke during meditation, use a charcoal burner or Firebowl, light the herbs and enjoy the scent and smoke as you meditate. Meditating with these herbs often produces a deeper and longer-lasting state of relaxation and contemplation. (Stephanie Yeh)

NASA announces discovery of evidence of water on Mars

SPACE.com has learned that NASA has discovered evidence of water on the Red Planets surface. The finding, made by the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft, fuels hopes that there may be life on Mars.

Sources close to the agencies Mars program said the discovery involves evidence of seasonal deposits that could be associated with springs on the planets surface.

NASA plans to make the blockbuster announcement during a press conference scheduled for June 29, sources said.

The discovery, if confirmed, would mark the achievement of a primary goal in NASAs program to explore Mars. NASA's ambitious plans for Mars focus on gaining an understanding of the potential for either past or present life on the planet. The program also aims to improve sciences understanding of Mars climate and its resources.

Key to all three themes is water: Where and when it may have flowed in the past, where it might lurk today and in which forms and what quantities.

NASA scientists on the Mars Global Surveyor team declined to comment, pending the press conference and subsequent publication in the journal Science of a paper on the discovery.

Ed Weiler, NASA associate administrator for space science, told the National Academy of Sciences Space Studies Board on June 14 that the Mars program needs a clear-cut vision. The real reason to go is to find out if life is there or not, he said.

"To meet that long-term mission requires that you follow the water. Without water there is not life there was not life," Weiler said. "By following the water, it all fits together. So for the first time, we have a really good, clear,long-term vision for Mars."

Water most likely flowed inthe distant past on Mars, carving channels and other features clearly visible on its surface. But other than in the form of clouds and ice, liquid water cannot exist on the planets surface today, thanks to the thinness of its atmosphere.

Scientists have hypothesized that vast stores of water could still persist beneath the surface of Mars. (Read more ...)

Brought to international attention by the hugely popular movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Devils Tower has been a sacred place of numerous Indian tribes since prehistoric times. Various legends are told about the origin of the tower. One story, common to the Kiowa, Arapaho, Crow, Cheyenne and Sioux tribes, concerns a group of little girls pursued by a giant bear.

According to this legend, seven young Indian girls were one day playing in the forest. A great bear came upon them and gave chase. The girls fled swiftly through the trees but the bear slowly gained on them. Recognizing the hopelessness of their situation, the girls jumped upon a low rock and prayed loudly to the Great Spirit to save them. Immediately the small rock began to grow upwards, lifting the seven girls higher and higher into the sky. The angry bear jumped up against the sides of the growing tower and left deep claw marks, which may be seen to this day upon the rock walls. The tower continued to soar towards the sky until the girls were pushed up into the heavens, where they became the seven stars of the Pleiades.

Known to the Indians as Mateo Tepee or Grizzly Bear Lodge, the tower is actually the remnant of a volcanic extrusion that occurred 60-70 million years ago. Rising some 1,200 feet above the nearby Belle Fourche River, the tower was first seen by white explorers during a US. Geological Survey in 1875. The surveyors called the rock Devils Tower after an old Indian name, The Bad God's Tower. It was first climbed, using a long wooden ladder attached to the rock face, on July 4th, 1893. Proclaimed the first US National Park by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, the tower is today a popular climbing site and over 20,000 ascents have been made. Jutting magnificently out of the relatively flat surrounding terrain, the tower was a greatly honored vision quest site of the Indians. Its use in this regard has continued to the present time, for both Indians and non-Indians, and many visitors have reported seeing strange light phenomena and UFO's flying about the tower's summit.

An Aussie Peculiarity

Well ... there's Zebra Crossings and Pelican Crossings in the northern hemisphere... and here in Aussie there is a Kangaroo Crossing. Yep ... perfectly true. I saw it with my own two eyes ...

Coming home from work tonight, stopped at traffic lights ... and there before us hop hopping across the pedestrian crossing was ... you guessed it a relation of Skippy heading to the shops ....

I swear I saw it press the button to change the traffic light signal!

Give it a handbag and a credit card ... it must have been a 'doey' (a female!!!) Could only be female heading for the shops (it is late night shopping here on a Friday night) and it could only be in Australia ....

A daily dose of garlic can save your life by cutting blood pressure, say researchers

Garlic may lower blood pressure just as effectively as drugs, according to researchers.

Scientists looked at 11 international studies in which patients were given a daily garlic supplement in powdered form for between three and five months.

They found significant blood pressure falls among participants - with the greatest drops among those who had higher blood pressure readings to begin with.

In some cases, the effects were similar to those achieved with common anti-blood pressure drugs, such as beta blockers and ACE inhibitors, said Dr Karin Ried, of Adelaide University in South Australia.

More than 16million Britons have high blood pressure and many more are thought to suffer from it without knowing. If the condition is not treated, it can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Doctors recommend that sufferers lower their blood pressure by cutting their intake of salt, losing weight and getting fit.

Now the Australian research suggests that extra help is at hand in readily available over the counter garlic supplements. (Read More ...)

Tarot Card of the Day

When the Knight of Swords comes up to indicate a man, he will be intelligent, subtle and clever. His capacity for abstract thought will be well developed. He is also highly intuitive and perceptive.

His nature will be elusive and ethereal, yet he has a strength and fascination that is hard to deny. He compels attention, except when he doesn't want it, and at those times you will not even notice him pass by.

Because of the enquiring and analytic nature of his mind, you will often find him involved in occult study, and following spiritual pursuits. Whilst tolerant of those who know less than him, he will not divulge his knowledge easily. Rather those who wish to learn from him must fight to see him clearly, rather than falling for the projections he readily casts around him.

If this man is badly dignified his subtlety turns to manipulation, and his fascination to glamour. In this way, he becomes unprincipled and self-seeking. There is a certain ruthlessness present in the Knight of Swords at all times.

Even when we meet him at his best, he makes a hard task master, and an acutely keen observer. The sword in his hand will quite often be used to cut to the heart of things - and sometimes we will not be comfortable with what is revealed.

When this card comes up to indicate a state of mind in a man not normally seen as a Knight of Swords, we are then dealing with quite another issue. Now we must address the darkest qualities of the card. This is an angry man, who has quite possibly been emotionally hurt, and may well be looking for revenge.

He has the potential to be physically violent and mentally cruel. He is a nasty enemy and somebody who needs to be treated with the utmost caution.
