The Woke Quango That Wants to Cull Every Wild Pony on Dartmoor
A dozen or so Dartmoor Hill Ponies are huddled in small groups on the misty moor before us, with tails swishing, nostrils flaring gently and tangled manes blowing in the breeze.
Several are dozing with heads nodding low, bodies still. Others fuss over each other, nibbling at their backs with strong yellow teeth, satisfying the odd itch and gently whickering as their sweet, horsey smell drifts over.
A furry foal leaps and bounds and then takes shelter by her mother under the drizzle.
Two at the back are romping like teenagers – rearing up, play-fighting, jostling each other, then pausing to graze. Just as they have for nearly 4,500 years.
Because these wild ponies – none bigger than 12-and-a-half-hands high – are astonishingly hardy.
Ever since the Bronze Age, they have endured icy winters, blizzards and frozen streams, buffeting winds and hot, dry summers. Adapting and surviving thanks to their unique genetics, passed down through countless generations to today’s 1,000-strong herd.
And doing their bit to keep the 365-square-mile moor’s delicate ecosystem in balance.
But, sadly, not for much longer.
Because if Natural England gets its way, most of them will be culled in October – taken off the moors, euthanised with bolt guns and sent to the knacker’s yard. And the herd will be utterly decimated.
Yes, you read correctly, it is Natural England – the Government quango responsible for protecting the country’s land, flora and fauna – which has opened the door to a potential cull.
All of which has, not surprisingly, caused a right old furore.
It started when the organisation ruled that the “stocking density” – the number of livestock that farmers are permitted to keep – must be reduced on Dartmoor by between 50 and 89%, to prevent overgrazing, which reduces biodiversity.
And to the horror of farmers, landowners, conservationists and, particularly, members of the charity Friends of The Dartmoor Hill Pony (The Friends), for the first time wild ponies were regarded as livestock.
This means that farmers who graze their animals on the moor will be forced to choose between their cattle and sheep, which pay the bills, and their ponies, which don’t – despite attracting visitors from all around the world, as the emblem of Dartmoor National Park since 1951 and a crucial part of the heritage here. …

Allies of Sir Keir Starmer believe he is preparing to step down as he

Minister was realising that the “game is up” and his thoughts were

Think of buying a wooden stool. The wood was once part of a tree, which was part of a forest. A person was paid to fell the tree, another to cut the wood, and yet another to build the stool. Their income may have had a positive effect on their families, just as the loss of the tree may have had a negative impact on the forest or the animals that made that tree their home. An encouraging word to a young child about their special talent can influence them to develop their gift so that one day their inventions can change the lives of millions. A poem written to express oneself can make a stranger reading it thousands of miles away feel less alone.
Staying conscious of your connection to all things can help you think of your choices in terms of their impact. We are powerful enough that what we do and say can reverberate through the lives of people we may never meet. It was a question repeated across the energy industry last week after power prices briefly turned negative, meaning customers and countries abroad were paid to use surplus electricity generated in Britain rather than having to pay for it.
It meant free energy for some consumers to use as they pleased – to charge their electric vehicles (EVs) or simply make a cup of tea – and saw Britain offloading the rest to the likes of France and Holland, not just free but with a chunky payment attached.
This might sound like an oddity, but it was far from the first time. So far this year, Britain has seen around 50 hours of negative prices. Last year, the amount totalled 150 hours – a sevenfold increase since 2021, according to Aurora Energy.
By 2028, UK prices could be below zero for 15% of the year – more than 1,300 hours, LCP Delta says.
The reason is that Britain is generating too much energy, resulting in a surplus that must be absorbed for the power system to function properly.

Experts often don't agree, we're drowning in information, and censorship is a very real thing - here's how to not get lost and confused navigating information.
I wanted to present a quick collection of ideas, thoughts, and reflections that can act as tools for navigating the information landscape. It can be confusing out there, hopefully these tools make things easier.
I want to point out that we have the potential to live in a world where we would not have to have this level of discernment. It would be possible if we were less blinded by political ideologies, emotions, social media algorithms and censorship. But given this is the landscape we find ourselves in today, knowing how to weather the storm is essential.
1. Stay Present
This
is first and foremost to me. Navigating our world and information has
become purely cognitive. But we are not purely cognitive beings. We have
gut and heart intelligence on top of our mental capacity, so why not
bring it on board and master it?
Further, how we feel about
something can give us insight into the beliefs, resistances, and
emotions that may be shaping our perspectives.
How do we become
aware of how we feel and activate our other forms of intelligence? By
staying present and connected to our body.
Solution: Use the
“Set Your Pulse” reminder we have above. It’s a fancy way of saying
“take a breath and be human! You may have gotten lost in pure cognition.
Come back to your body, to presence, and expand your consciousness a
bit.”
It also won’t hurt to have some sort of practice that
regularly teaches interoception, the ability to track your internal
experience, sensations and emotions. Conscious breathing, somatic
movement, yoga, and martial arts all build our interoception muscle.

Too Young for TikTok, Old Enough to Vote?
We know the routine. The concerned expression. The voice lowered half an octave. The carefully arranged background of flags, earnest young people and laminated safeguarding jargon. Then comes the announcement. The government is going to protect children online.
At which point every parent in the country is expected to breathe a sigh of relief, put down the gin and thank the Department for Being Sensible on Our Behalf.
This would be comic enough at any time. It is even better when the Government now proposing to supervise teenagers online gives the impression of being unable to supervise itself. Sir Keir Starmer wants to childproof the internet while presiding over a state that cannot produce a defence policy that convinces its own side, let alone our allies or enemies.
Still, never mind the Russian threat. Has anyone thought about Chloe scrolling Instagram?
To be fair, there is a problem. Social media is not exactly a moral health spa. Much of it resembles a Victorian freak show redesigned by behavioural psychologists and funded by advertising executives. It is addictive, vain, cruel, stupid and often deranging. The idea that a 14 year-old girl with a smartphone is simply exercising ‘choice’ while being stalked by an algorithm designed to exploit insecurity is absurd.
So no, this is not a libertarian hymn to TikTok.
The problem is not that politicians worry about the effect of social media on young people. The problem is that they worry about it selectively.
The same political class that increasingly tells us young people must be protected from online manipulation is also very keen to tell us that those same young people are mature enough to vote.
This is where the argument begins to wobble like a drunk on a paddleboard.
Apparently, a teenager may not have the judgement to scroll through Instagram without state supervision, but does have the judgement to help choose the next government.

£900,000 – The Price of An A-rated Energy Performance Certificate
On the day Simon Buck exchanged on his home in New Malden, south-west London, he stood across the road with a notepad and started to draw.
“I literally sketched the design of a new house that was in my head,” he says. “Then I spent the next two years going about researching and working out how I was going to do it.”
He had a clear goal: to upgrade the property into the ultimate eco-home that could generate more energy than it consumed.
This would be no easy feat. The house – which was built in the early 1950s – had an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of ‘E’, placing it within the bottom 14% of English homes for energy efficiency.
EPCs aim to measure the energy efficiency of a property and are calculated based on the amount of energy used per square metre. Not only are more energy-efficient properties cheaper to run, they can also command higher house prices and may be eligible for ‘green mortgages’, which can come with preferential rates.
For Buck, it took almost two years from buying the home for a “bargain” £1 million in July 2023 before work on the project could begin.
“We ended up blowing the budget massively in pursuit of the best possible score,” says Buck, who spent £900,000 on the renovation. “There’s £100,000 worth of tech sitting in the plant room. I went over the top with everything.
“I could’ve built the house for a third of the price but it wouldn’t be the house that we have.”
Included in the exorbitant price were the solar panels, which – alongside a 20-kilowatt battery to store some of the electricity they produce – cost around £15,000.
Buck also installed a £30,000 state-of-the-art heat pump.
His home remains at a steady temperature throughout the year, with the thermostat hovering at a pleasant 23 degrees Celsius. The 46 year-old says he is able to walk around the house in the winter wearing only shorts and a T-shirt.
Obviously, that was well worth the £900,000 price tag. Buck is 46. Assuming he lives at least another 40 years that works out at £22,500 per annum to be able to wear shorts indoors in the winter. That’s roughly 10 times or more than the average household energy costs in the UK according to British Gas.
Unfortunately for the Government and its plans, Buck’s project only serves to demonstrate that the Net Zero dream is just that, way beyond the means of both most of the population and the public purse, especially given the age of most of Britain’s housing stock. 2026 Crop Circle #3 - Interpretation (Perhaps)
We think not.
We will merely add our own observation on the crop circle symbol.
There is a central orb or node, that is connected to the three other orbs or nodes by links. It is set in the centre of a ribbing.
The outer three orbs or nodes are observed as being set in elliptical pocket or crevice.
There is a sense that the symbology suggests the outer three orbs or nodes have been frozen in time in a central setting or position. Imagining these being able to slide to either the left individually or in time, and their pockets or crevices able to expand to the left or the right ... and there is some kind of mechanism that would spin in anti-clockwise and clockwise directions. It would also be possible to spin on many different planes and angles dependent on the combination of orb or node positions.
But to what end?
Is this symbolism of a doorway or portal that has opened? Interestingly there has supposedly been a 33hz electrical pulse going through the great pyramids and elsewhere around the earth grid line system; also connecting supposedly to the QFS satellite network, above the earth, connecting the old grid with a new grid.
