Clearing Your Mind
After a full day out in the world, stories, words, images, and songs from any number of sources continue to play in our heads hours after we encounter them. Even as we lie in bed, in the quiet dark, our minds continue noisily processing all the input from our day. This can leave us feeling unsettled and harassed. It also makes it difficult to take in any new information or inspiration. Like a cluttered house that needs to be cleared if it is to have room for movement and new life, our minds need clearing if they are to be open to new information, ideas, and inspiration.
Too often, the activities we choose to help us relax only add to the clutter. Watching television, seeing a movie, reading a book, or talking to a friend all involve taking in more information. In order to really clear our minds, we need a break from mental stimulation. Activities like yoga, dancing, or taking a long walk help to draw our attention to our bodies, slowing our mental activity enough that our minds begin to settle. Deep breathing is an even simpler way to draw attention away from our mental activities. Once we are mentally relaxed, we can begin the process of clearing our minds. Most of us instinctively know what allows our minds to relax and release any unnecessary clutter. It may be meditation or time spent staring at the stars. Whatever it is, these exercises feel like a cool, cleansing bath for the brain and leave our minds feeling clear and open.
Setting aside time to clear our minds once a day creates a ritual that becomes second nature over time. Our minds will begin to settle with less effort the more we practice. Ultimately, the practice of clearing our minds allows us to be increasingly more open so that we can perceive the world as the fresh offering it is, free of yesterday’s mental clutter.

Lanterns For Madeleine 1000th Day Milestone
Kate and Gerry McCann will mark the 1,000th day since their daughter Madeleine went missing with a fund-raising event attended by celebrity backers.
Supporters of the couple will also launch 1,000 glowing paper lanterns into the night sky in Britain, Portugal and the US to coincide with the sad anniversary. About 180 guests are expected to attend the McCanns' £150-a-head dinner, raffle and auction at Kensington Roof Gardens in west London.
It is understood that those invited include Sir Richard Branson, who owns the exclusive venue, Harry Potter author JK Rowling and the couple's millionaire backer Brian Kennedy.
Half the money raised will go to the McCanns' fund to find Madeleine, and the other half will be split between the charities Missing People and Missing Children Europe. Nearly £2 million was raised for Madeleine's Fund in the first 10 months after the little girl went missing from Praia da Luz in Portugal in May 2007. But the initial surge of donations dried up and the McCanns, both 41, from Rothley, Leicestershire, spent hundreds of thousands of pounds hiring a series of private detectives to continue the search for their daughter.
McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell stressed that there was no "crisis" in the fund, which currently stands at about £500,000. He said: "The directors of the fund felt it was prudent to maintain the fund. But even if the fund were to run dry, it doesn't mean the search stops."
Mr Mitchell said Wednesday evening's fund-raiser would be attended primarily by the couple's friends and long-term supporters.

Drug firms 'drove swine flu pandemic warning to recoup £billions spent on research'
Drug companies manipulated the World Health Organisation into downgrading its definition of a pandemic so they could cash in on a swine flu outbreak, it is claimed.
An inquiry heard yesterday that the WHO allegedly softened its criteria for declaring a H1N1 flu pandemic last spring - just weeks before announcing there was a worldwide outbreak. Critics said the decision was driven by pharmaceutical companies desperate to recoup the billions of pounds they had invested in researching and developing pandemic vaccines after the bird flu scares in 2006 and 2007.
As a result, millions of people have been vaccinated against a mild illness, and money that could have been used to prevent and treat major killers such as heart disease has been squandered.
The claims, which emerged during the first of several Council of Europe hearings into the handling of the swine flu pandemic, were strongly rejected by the WHO. Following the organisation's declaration of a pandemic, the Department of Health warned of 65,000 deaths, set up a special advice line and website, and suspended normal rules so anti-flu drugs could be given without prescription. But with just 250 or so deaths in Britain and 14,000 worldwide, the WHO is being asked to account for its actions.
The Government is now trying to off-load millions of jabs it ordered at the height of the scare. Sources say it is even considering giving some doses away for free. Wolfgang Wodarg, former head of health at the Council of Europe, the Strasbourg-based 'senate' responsible for the European Court of Human Rights, said vaccine contracts were put in place in 2007, when it was feared the more lethal bird flu virus would mutate into human form. Haunted Canberra: Blundell Cottage
The second part of our paranormal investigation around Canberra last night (Monday 25th Janaury 2010) comprised a midnight visit to Blundell Cottage on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. Another reputed haunted site in and around Canberra. We'd visited the cottage by day several weeks earlier and recorded some unusual light phenomenon, so we were eager to see what could be uncovered on the outside of the property. Sadly, no high EMF readings were recorded and nothing unusual was unearthed with the cameras. But the visit wasn't a total disappointment. A number of interesting anomalies were recorded during EVP sessions around the property. From clear murmurs, sighs and hums in response to questions to the audible 'cracking' of small branches on two occasions at the same point. This session was interesting as the first 'crack' occurred immediately after the session recording began and in direct response to asking of anything or anyone was present at that time. The locality was revisited about ten minutes later, and at the same 'cue' an even louder, clear 'cracking' noise was heard in response to the question. Our conclusion: on the evidence of the EVP sessions there may be something paranormal present at Blundell Cottage.

Heredity plays a role in almost all human development, whether physical, mental, or emotional. We tend to look like our parents and are subject to the same sensitivities they have. We may even be predisposed to certain behaviours or preferences. As we grow older, we become increasingly aware of the traits that exist within us and the clear history of the traits of our mothers and fathers. Our response to this epiphany depends upon whether the inclinations, tendencies, and penchants we inherited from our forebears are acceptable in our eyes. We may honour some of these shared traits while rejecting others. However, there is no law of nature, no ethereal connection between parents and children, that states that the latter must follow in the footsteps of the former. We are each of us free to become whoever we wish to be.
When we accept that our parents are human beings in possession of both human graces and human failings, we begin to regard them as distinct individuals. And by granting mothers and fathers personhood in our minds, we come to realize that we, too, are autonomous people and in no way destined to become our relations. While we may have involuntarily integrated some of our parents’ mannerisms or habits into our own lives, conscious self-examination will provide us with a means to identify these and work past them if we so desire. We can then unreservedly honour and emulate those aspects of our mothers and fathers that we admire without becoming carbon copies of them.
Though many of the tempers and temperaments that define you are inherited, you control how they manifest in your life. The patterns you have witnessed unfolding in the lives of your parents need not be a part of your unique destiny. You can learn from the decisions they made and choose not to indulge in the same vices. Their habits need not become yours. But even as you forge your own path, consider that your parents’ influence will continue to shape your life—whether or not you follow in their footsteps. Throughout your entire existence, they have endeavoured to provide you with the benefit of their experiences. How you make use of this profound gift is up to you.

"Inspections of internal windows in both The Dormitory & Room 3 revealed the hand prints of a young child plus there were a number of clear markings of a young child’s hand on the glass of the wardrobe door in Room 3. These markings included two clear handprints; numerous finger prints, and an area where child sized fingers had been rubbed down the face of the glass. The Owner informed us that neither of these rooms have ever been used as family rooms so there is no logical explanation for these child’s handprints on the windows or the wardrobe door; or for the cross on the window. These areas are regularly maintained and clearly from the owner's reactions these markings had not been there on the last clean in these rooms. Nobody had been in these rooms prior to our visit." Haunted Canberra: The Air Crash Memorial Site
Last night (Tue 26th January 2010) was our third trip to the Air Crash Memorial site on the outskirts of Canberra. It was, however, the first visit where we purposely 'investigated' the alleged phenomenon at this site. Armed with EMF meters, cameras, digital voice recorders etc we arrived at the crash site in moonlight. We recorded numerous photographs capturing orb phenomenon (photo right) and sensed various different types of energy fields. A number of interesting 'anomalies' were caught on tape during attempted EVP sessions. The data from this is currently being analysed. The high point of the evening was the 'sighting' of a large black winged 'entity' which floated silently over us. Those who witnessed this phenomenon reported the same thing - it was NOT a bird of any description; it was NOT a bat or similar creature; it had a translucent, almost see through, appearance; its passage was totally silent. Our conclusion for the night - there IS phenomenon up there, but it is not just ex-human, discarnate, presences that entertain visitors there. Ancient, forgotten, forces exist there.

Promises
Ever since human beings could speak to one another, they have been making promises and keeping them or not keeping them. Those who keep their promises are regarded as people of integrity, while those who don’t keep their promises are regarded as people who at best can’t be taken seriously and at worst can’t be trusted. Sometimes we forget how powerful our words are, and we use them haphazardly or unconsciously, creating expectations that are never fulfilled, leaving disappointment and distrust in our wake.
On an even deeper level, there are promises we may have made to ourselves that we don’t remember because they have slipped into our unconscious. An early heartache may have been followed by a promise never to trust love again. Without realizing it, we may be fulfilling that promise and wondering why our love life looks so grim. At an even deeper level, many people who recall past lives become aware that they made a promise lifetimes ago that they are still keeping. For example, a vow of poverty taken in a lifetime as a monk may be holding someone back from fulfilling his earning potential now. Upon realizing that we have made a promise we no longer wish to be beholden to, we can perform a ritual of requesting release from that bond. In doing so, we clear ourselves of outmoded connections and patterns, returning ourselves to a clean slate. Then we can resolve to remember that our word is sacred and to be very conscious of any promises we make to ourselves or to others.
We may ask to be released from any promises made to ourselves or others in our present, past, or future lives, consciously or unconsciously, that are holding us back from fulfilling our greatest good. We may ask that love, light, and healing be sent to any souls who have suffered from our inability to be true to our word, including ourselves. We can ask for the wisdom to do our best and from this point forward to be true to our word, promising only what we truly intend to deliver. The resulting clear conscience and liberated energy will illustrate this truth: We are only as good as our word.

As US Prepares Long-term Occupation, Haiti’s Quake Victims Still Without Aid
'Humanitarian aid and medical teams have accused the US military—which has asserted unilateral control over the country’s airport and port facilities—of making the deployment of troops and the evacuation of US citizens from Haiti its first priorities. The delivery of desperately needed medical supplies and equipment were relegated to second place. Medical relief agencies have warned that tens of thousands more are dying from injuries sustained in the earthquake because of the lack of basic supplies and medicines.
While aid has now reportedly begun flowing into the country, fully 11 days after the earthquake, it is reportedly still not reaching those who desperately need it. “Large quantities of medications, baby formula and other relief supplies are sitting on the tarmac and in warehouses at the Port-au-Prince airport, but no one is moving it out,” CNN cable news reported Thursday.' 'The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reported on Friday that children have gone missing from hospitals in Haiti following the devastating earthquake in the country, raising fears they are being trafficked for adoption abroad. The Bush Ranger Hotel, Collector, NSW on the outskirts of Canberra IS haunted. We at A Light In The Darkness can PERSONALLY vouch for that FACT. An unplanned paranormal investigation, last night, uncovered a number of 'happenings' experienced by ourselves, which were completely concurrent with the known happenings at the Bush Ranger Hotel. The owner had kindly granted us permission to 'venture' upstairs into the hotel accommodation rooms. He'd not said a word, prior to our investigation, so we were none the wiser as to what we would experience. Our 'findings' were later confirmed by the owner as being in keeping with who, and what, is known to be there at the hotel. Our findings provided perfect collaboratory evidence with what other investigations had uncovered at the hotel. What was effectively the 'dress rehearsal' for our first true investigation later in the week, elsewhere, turned out to herald pleasing results. There were aspects of the investigation, namely physical phenomenon, which even caught the owner by surprise. We will approach the owner to report the findings here at a later date. We had been asked to provide a written testament of our experiences for the owner, which we are currently compiling. So watch this space.

Martian Anomaly
Another Martian landscape with anomalies that question the official line that 'there is no life on Mars'. This landscape is littered with numerous interesting shapes which do not appear to be natural formations. Those indicated by the red arrows represent a small percentage of what appears to be in this picture. The colouration may be incorrect, and it is difficult to actually seperate the different areas in the picture ... within the areas of 'green' are other anomalies camouflaged by the solid colouring.

Being Clear About Desires
The best way to get what we want from life is to first know what we want. If we haven’t taken the time to really understand and identify what would truly make us happy, we won’t be able to ask for it from those around us or from the universe. We may not even be able to recognize it once it arrives. Once we are clear about what we want, we can communicate it to those around us. When we can be honest about who we are and what we want, there is no need to demand, be rude or aggressive, or manipulate others that are involved in helping us get what we want. Instead, we know that we are transmitting a signal on the right frequency to bring all that we desire into our experience.
As the world evolves, humanity is learning to work from the heart. We may have been taught that the way to get what we want is to follow certain rules, play particular games, or even engage in acts that use less than our highest integrity. The only rules we need to apply are those of intention and connection. In terms of energy, we can see that it takes a lot of energy to keep up a false front or act in a way that is counter to our true nature, but much less energy is expended when we can just be and enjoy connections that energize us in return. Then our energy can be directed toward living the life we want right now.
Society has certain expectations of behavior and the roles each of us should play, but as spiritual beings we are not bound by these superficial structures unless we choose to accept them. Instead, we can listen to our hearts and follow what we know to be true and meaningful for us. In doing so, we will find others who have chosen the same path. It can be easy to get caught up in following goals that appear to be what we want, but when we pursue the underlying value, we are certain to stay on our right path and continue to feed our soul.

Toxic levels of this substance in the blood can result in mental retardation. The structure of aspartame seems simple, but what a complicated structure aspartame really is. Two isolated amino acids in aspartame are fused together by its third component, deadly methanol. In this structure, methanol bonds the two amino acids together, but when released at a mere 86 degrees Fahrenheit, the methanol becomes a poisonous free radical.
Methanol breaks down into formic acid and formaldehyde, embalming fluid. Methanol is a dangerous neurotoxin, a known carcinogen, causes retinal damage in the eye, interferes with DNA replication, and causes birth defects.
Aspartic acid makes up forty percent of the structure of aspartame. Under excess conditions, the structure of aspartic acid can cause endocrine (hormone) disorders and vision problems. Aspartic acid is a neuroexicter, which means its structure affects the central nervous system. Hyperactivity is stimulated by aspartic acid, so this structure is not good for ADD/ADHD conditions and should be avoided during pregnancy.
Adverse reactions to aspartic acid are: headaches/migraines, nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, sleep disorders, vision problems, anxiety attacks, depression, and asthma/chest tightness. The second isolated amino acid in aspartame's chemical structure is phenylalanine, fifty percent of aspartame's 3-D structure. A Word On 'The Astral Dimension'
The astral is the closest dimension to the physical. It overlays and permeates the world like a huge mind net, catching and holding all thought. Its contents are created by the collective consciousness of the world mind. It contains all the thoughts, memories, fantasies, and dreams of every living thing in the world. In it, the laws of sympathetic attraction, or like attracts like, causes this ocean of mind stuff to strata and settle into layers or pools. These pools of thought are more commonly called astral planes, astral worlds, astral sub planes or astral realms.
The astral dimension is composed of astral matter and is aptly described as mind stuff. It is extremely sensitive to thought and can be moulded into any shape or form. These creations can be so perfect as to be indistinguishable from reality.
The best way to explain this, mind stuff, is to draw a comparison between astral matter and unexposed, high speed photographic film. When this film is exposed to light, focused by the cameras lens, a perfect image of reality is instantly burnt into the film by the chemical reaction of the film to light.
