Rothley is changing. It's beginning to return to how it was before Madeleine's abduction. The first thing you notice is the village's war memorial. It's still the focus of remembrance for the four-year-old. But it's smaller now. The thousands of yellow ribbons of hope remain. But the cuddly toys, cards and letters have gone. The teddies have been taken away and washed by local schoolchildren. They'll be sent to charities abroad. The written tributes have been boxed up and kept for when the McCanns return.
The news satellite trucks and journalists who camped out on the village green in the first stages of her disappearance have found new stories to cover.
The fundraising in the village for Madeleine's Fund continues. The latest idea is a pop concert involving local bands and some better-known acts like Anthony Kavanagh, star of ITV's Grease is the Word, and X Factor finalist Rowetta. "Madeleine's a local girl, and I'm a local girl," says organiser Toni Perduno. "I felt helpless when she was snatched. This is my way of helping." Perduno hopes to sell 6,000 tickets for the gig on July 29, and raise £30,000. (Sky News)
