Yahoo Xtra News, says:
Sub-zero conditions in the deep south have been causing chaos not only for motorists, but also for pedestrians. Southland Hospital had to cancel some elective surgery yesterday to care for more than 60 patients suffering injuries after ice formed on roads and paths overnight. Sheet ice is expected on the roads again this morning.

Poor weather conditions are also expected in Northland today. MetService is predicting 200 millimetres of rain could fall over the next 24 hours. Forecaster Bob McDavitt says it will also be very windy with gusts of up to 120 kilometres an hour in exposed places.
