More than 20,000 people were preparing for a second night without power following storms in the top of the North Island in the past two days. Floodwaters were still causing problems in the Far North, particularly in the town of Kaeo, while damage from rainfall and winds of up to 180kmh knocked out power for many people in Whangarei, Coromandel Peninsula and northern parts of Auckland.Vector Energy, which manages electricity networks in Auckland, said 120,000 customers had power restored by 4.30pm today but a further 21,000 were still without electricity.
The worst areas were the towns of Warkworth, Snells Beach and Orewa, while in greater Auckland there were still problems in East Coast Bays, west Auckland and Waiheke Island. (Yahoo Xtra News)
