'Red, white and blue' refers to a prediction made before the commencement of the 2007-2008 English Football season.
The Red: Manchester United winning the Premiership Title;
The Blue: Portsmouth winning the FA Cup;
The White: Tottenham Hotspurs winning the Carling Cup.
The final part had refered to some kind of 'shock' or 'surprise' relating to a 'big' club being relegated. Reading were relegated after a couple of years in the Premiership.
English Premiership 2007 - 2008 (Saturday 20th July 2007); stated:
'The winners of the Premiership title for 2007 - 2008, the F A Cup Title & the Carling Cup to be won by three separate teams .... one in red, one in blue and one in white'.
'The shock at the end of the season when one of the big clubs is relegated and falls from the top flight ....'
