Obama And Clinton In Show Of Unity

Sky News UK (Friday 27th June 2008) says: Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have made their first joint campaign appearance as they try to heal wounds and get a Democrat back into the White House.

The two former rivals spoke at a "Unite for Change" rally in a New Hampshire village, appropriately named Unity.

Obama beat the former First Lady to the Democratic nomination for the US presidency earlier this month after a bitter campaign that split party loyalties.

But now the pair have united to pull the party together to campaign against Republican candidate John McCain in the run-up to November's presidential election.

In her speech, Clinton said the Arizona senator and the Republican Party probably hoped she would not join forces with Obama.

"But I've got news for them: we are one party, we are one America and we are not going to rest until we take back our country and put it once again on the path to peace, prosperity and progress in the 21st century," she said.

Obama said in response: "As someone who has taken the same historic journey as Senator Clinton; who has watched her campaign and debate, I know from firsthand experience how tough she is, and how passionate she is, and how committed she is to the causes that brought us here today."
