Hell and high water: Chaos reigns as a tornado, floods and 70mph winds batter Britain, leaving two dead

Source: Daily Mail

The full fury of the elements hit Britain yesterday as downpours, high winds and even a tornado battered the country. Torrential rain left two people dead and dozens of rivers threatening to burst their banks, with more than 100 areas on flood watch.

The Environment Agency has issued 22 flood warnings and placed 102 areas on flood watch. The misery of the wet weather has been made even worse by winds of up to 78mph, with the strongest gusts recorded at The Needles on the Isle of Wight.

Meanwhile, the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation, a privately- funded research body, has issued a tornado warning for South-East England, East Anglia and parts of the Midlands.
