Can a change in solar activity increase the risk of radiation to air passengers?

Changes in the solar activity of the Sun could pose an increased risk of radiation to passengers on long-distance aircraft, experts have warned. Researchers announced the warning after studying the effects of radiation on aircraft crew and passengers during long-haul flights. Air passengers have been warned that they could face a greater risk of exposure when the Sun ends its current 'grand solar maximum' - a cycle of heightened solar activity. Experts from the University of Reading say the Sun has been in a grand solar maximum for longer than any such previous cycle in the past 9.3 millennia. When that period ends, however, the resulting changes to the near-Earth space will return our planet to conditions which current forms of engineering will be unfamiliar with...read more>>>...
