The Rune Thurisaz

Thurisaz is the third rune of the Elder Futhark, and is pronounced "Thoor-ee-sawz".

Thurisaz is a Rune of protection. Its shape of a thorn symbolises the power of resistance and survival.

This rune channels the defensive powers and can possibly be at the origin of sudden upheavals.
It is the creative male energy in action.

Thurisaz can modify the course of things on the condition of being advisedly used. This rune represents the defence or the attack according to the use which we make, it is at first a rune of protection, defence against what is aggressive towards us.

Thurisaz also helps to fight our bad habits and obliges to confront the own fears which we have and to overcome them. Thurisaz is like Mjöllnir, the hammer of Thor, which makes the ground tremble or the thorn in which we prick ourselves when we are lacking in care.

It is associated with both the Hawthorn and the Blackthorn trees .... 'come rain, hail or shine  they survive, and are virtually impenetrable:.
